    • My curls have never looked better!
TL;DR: Yes, I recommend the Pattern blow dryer by Tracee Ellis Ross! I was looking for a new hair dryer to treat myself for my birthday. I also wanted to support a women-owned and/or black-owned business. Though TER is a celebrity brand, I’d still rather give her my coin than some *other* brands, especially at a fraction of the price… I have medium density, extremely fine to fine, short length, curly hair. Somewhere in the 2B-3A range, depending on which part of my head you’re looking at. I dunno what my porosity is for sure, but I think it’s low. I am of minimal melanin and Western European descent, but my hair is naturally curly. When I actually bother to style it, I can get some really gorgeous ringlets. Before I received the hair dryer I thought, okay, how much of a difference can a really expensive hair dryer make? I’d only ever used ones that were like, 20 bucks at the local beauty supply store. Turns out: it can make a huge difference! I have minimal frizz with nicely dried hair and gorgeous ringlets that last for days. I am wary of heat damage but feel that my hair is in good hands with Pattern. Here’s my wash day routine (x2/week): double wash, condition, microfiber towel dry for a couple of mins, spray a little water and use my Denman 9-row to brush out, apply some Aveda Damage Remedy cream, then use alligator clips and section my hair to brush with my Bounce Curl Define Edge Lift (volume) brush and define the curls. Next, I apply Pattern mousse (also by TER). Then I add a little Ouidad cream-gel for shine and hold. Lastly, I gently blow dry on medium heat and low speed with the ionizer turned on. I take my time and my slowly through clumps of curls. When my hair is to my desired dryness, I use the cold feature for several seconds per section. Technique-wise, I prefer to lift the curls up (using the diffuser as well as a hair pick) to increase volume — instead of blowing air from the side which significantly lengthens my curls. It takes me about 20 minutes to get to about 50-60% dry, which works for my needs. I don’t like to dry it to 90-100%. I’m trying to prevent heat damage. The reason I blow dry at all is because I get better volume, wash days last longer, and I *hate* the feeling of wet hair on my neck. Pros: It’s gorgeous! Beautiful design. I wish it was a tiny bit lighter, but when I compared it to the weights of other products, this one was a little bit lighter. It seems sturdy and like it will last. It’s easy enough to use. Well designed. One minor complaint is that the controls seem to be designed for right-handed people. In the year of 2025, I can’t fathom why they didn’t just make the buttons in a neutral position. As a lefty, it’s actually super inconvenient to stop, lower the dryer, switch to my dominant hand and slide the switches. I have arthritis and weakness in my hands so it’s that much harder for me. I was honestly a bit surprised by this oversight on their part. Another tiny critique is that there’s no light or way to tell that the cold switch is on. The first two times I used the dryer, I did not know it was set to cold and honestly thought the dryer was a lemon because it never seemed to get hot enough to really dry my hair. Finally I thought to check the cold switch (which I had never touched when I received the product), and realized oh! Duh! It’s actually just been on cold this whole time. So on the plus side, the “cold shot” button is more like a steady and long lasting winter breeze, which is impressive! On the down side, unlike the ionizer button, there is no light to tell you if it’s on or off. The product is a beautiful deep caramel brown kind of color. I love that there are arrows indicating where the attachments align with the dryer, and that they click into place and have buttons to release so that the attachments aren’t falling off and crashing all over the bathroom when you set the dryer on the counter. I feel like it’s a lil spa treatment every time I do my hair now. 🥰 Also worth noting: I sleep on a silk pillowcase and sometimes use a silk bonnet. This helps prolong the life of my curls, as well. Shout out to black women who have transformed hair care for all types of hair! Overall: 8.5 out of 10 with points reduced for dexterity design, cold shot button, and weight. Cost seems reasonable for the value of this kind of product.     • Amazing hair dryer for curly girls
I have used this pattern dryer once and am in love with it! I have naturally gray, mixture of fine and course hair, naturally curly and very frizz prone. I have tried so many hair dryers - searching for the right one and thought this is just the way my hair will be from this point forward-a dry curly frizz ball mess! Until I tried the pattern blow dryer! It’s amazing the difference this blow dryer made on my hair! My hair is soft and curly and I have volume on top due to the amazing comb attachment. My hair has never blown out this good-not even at the salon! If you’re on the fence about this blow dryer and you have curly, dry, frizz prone hair - BUY IT!     • Worth Every Penny - 4A hair
I love this blow dryer. I was skeptical about paying $159 for a blow dryer, but figured with Amazon, why not give it a chance. I have a lot of hair and it's thick. Blow drying usually takes me well over an hour, has my arms hurting after 20 minutes, and doesn't get my hair straight. The longer my hair is, the more of a pain it is to take on this task. I used the brush attachment and level II with the ion button on. I separated my hair into 4 sections, brushed each section out (all were detangled and easy to brush because of the Pattern heavy conditioner), and I was done blow drying my entire head in less than 20 minutes. But the kicker was, it was straight. Not flat iron straight, but definitely walk out of my house straight. I then used my ceramic flat iron and it only took me about 30 minutes to fully straighten my hair bone straight. I used the Pattern hydrating shampoo and Pattern heavy conditioner first. I also always use the chi heat protectant spray before I put any heat to my hair. I swear I'm not exaggerating and I rarely leave reviews. I had to share how happy I am with this product. This took a job that normally takes me 3-4 plus hours down to under an hour. No, I didn't get paid for this review and I wasn't given the product to review, I bought it. I live in a rural area and going to the salon isn't close or convenient for me. This saved me money and time!!! My hair type is fairly close to a 4A, possibly 3C. I also swim a lot in the summer, so this is helpful when I just want to get the chlorine out and not damage my hair further with heat. Very happy customer. ... show more

    • Natural? You'll love it! Silk press? NO, but it's much better than nothing
Its not ion so it won't dry out your hair. But it won't dry your hair as in you'll retain moisture on the inside and wonder why your hair is frizzy and your curls wont hold! It's great if you're a natural or curly girl. But if your next step is a flat iron, don't bother. Its beautiful and the attachments are stellar. But its just not what I need. I'm keeping it mostly because I lost the box. The noise is very low for a blow dryer but I feel thats because its not getting the water out. Its a good size, I have small hands so everything is too big for me, can't judge that. Power is good I didn't blow a fuse but again, my hair is also still wet when my ion dryer would have me done by then.. Update: I'm adding another star because it works fast. I still wouldn't use it for just a blowout but being done enough to wrap it and go to bed and my shoulders don't hurt? I'm taking it as a win. ... show more

    • Great for detangling while blow drying!
I bought it on sale and it was definitely worth the price. All of the attachments are made of a high quality material (accidentally dropped a piece on hardwood and nothing broke) and work well with my tight coils. I haven’t used the diffuser yet but I’ve heard good things. The heat and cooling levels are good and nice to have I found myself switching through them to test it all and noticed a difference between them enough to decide which one was best for my hair. The detangling brush attachment speed the process of drying my hair which use to feel like it took forever. My on con would be that for me it is not as ergonomic as I would prefer. I have tendinitis in my wrists/thumbs and certain angles were not as comfortable for me to hold however I was able to manage. Luckily it’s not too heavy so I could deal with it.     • Wonderful features! but NOT 4C FRIENDLY 😞
This blow dryer is nice and I like the features but I don't think it's for short/medium length 4c (like Lupita Nyongo) hair. The wide tooth comb literally does nothing for me, I don't even feel like the heat is getting to my hair with it, I think it's specifically made for people with long hair. The brush gets tangled in my coils even after I detangle with my own deman brush. I haven't tried the other 2 attachments because there's no point in keeping it if I can't use the brush and wide tooth comb attachments. It needs a comb attachment that's made like an afro pik like on regular blow dryers; then I think I would actually have a use for it because my type of short/medium 4c hair (I have a twa but my hair goes to my collar bone when stretched) doesn't agree with it. I wanted to write a review after I have used it for some time. Well, time flew 😳. It's been at least a year or more and this dryer is still my go-to as it has the best settings for my curly and straight looks. I've traveled overseas and still, it was a gem.

    • Straightens well, but cumbersome to hold and attachments don't stay on after 4 months
At first, I was very happy with how well and how fast this dryer dried my hair. When I used the comb attachment, I didn't even need to flat iron my hair after blow drying. It dried and straightened my hair all in one go...but, the reason I give it two stars is, it is extremely cumbersome to hold if you are styling your own hair. And they placed the controls that govern the heat and speed settings where you need to place your hands to hold it. It was uncomfortable to use and I was constantly accidentally changing heat and speed settings due to hand placement. I wish the control buttons were placed where you don't accidently touch them while doing your hair, and it was more ergonomic and easy to use. Also after about 4 months of use whatever it is that keeps the attachments on the dryer don't work anymore. I can only use it to air dry, which is so disappointing because the comb attachment worked so well on my hair. Since this happened 4 months after i bought it, i could not exchange or return it. All of these issues made this dryer not worth the higher price tag. I wanted to love it, but it had too many problems. ... show more
