Pros: I grabbed these Paper Mate pencils because they were on sale, and now that my daughter is a bit older and moving into her later elementary school years, she is transitioning from wooden pencils to lead pencils. I did not want to invest in anything too expensive because honestly, she tends to lose pencils before we even get to the point of needing a refill. These Paper Mate pencils turned out to be a great choice for that stage. They are beginner friendly with a thicker 1.3mm lead that is much more forgiving for little hands still building control. The barrel colors are fun and bright, and my daughter loves all of them, though pink is still her favorite of course. Each pack also comes with an extra lead refill case, so we are set for a while before needing more. At only $3.50 at the time I bought them, it felt like such a steal for 5 pencils plus refills. For anyone with a young writer transitioning from wood pencils, Paper Mate really nailed the design here, from the triangular grip to the bold lead thickness. Cons: The only real downside is the eraser quality on these Paper Mate pencils. They work, but they are not as strong as I would like for a kid who erases a lot while learning. I still keep a separate set of Pentel high polymer erasers on hand for that reason, since those tend to outperform the erasers that come attached to most pencils, Paper Mate included.

These are excellent refillable pencils. I needed these as I picked up some crossword and fill-in puzzle books for summer, and the paper in them is like newsprint thin, so not great with ink. These are the perfect solution and never require me to go hunting for my pencil sharpener. The eraser end is removable to load in the pencil lead, so refilling is simple. The pencils write very smoothly, and I haven't broken a lead yet. The triangular shape is comfortable in my hand and against my fingers (very welcome for me as I have rheumatoid arthritis & really value a smooth handwriting experience). The pencils write clearly with a dark definition and without smudging. The nice, bright colours are pleasant, and I'm glad I purchased these. Recommended.

These are hands-down the best mechanical pencils I’ve ever used. I’ve been a teacher for 25 years, and I can honestly say these are my favorite pencils ever. I have purchased them over and over because I love how they feel in my hand and how easy they are to write with. The triangular shape makes them comfortable to hold, and I really like the thicker 1.3mm lead for everyday writing. The lead is sturdy without making the pencil feel bulky. I also love that they come with extra lead and eraser refills. I’ve used plenty of different pencils over the years, but these are the ones I keep coming back to. I’ve even convinced several friends to switch to these, and they love them too. When I find something that works, I stick with it!
