Features

  • Key Upgrades to a Compact Hybrid Powerhouse: Phase Hybrid Autofocus, Improved I.S., and Unlimited Video, with 24.2-MP 35mm full-frame CMOS Sensor for high resolution, natural description, and approximately 2x higher-speed signal processing
  • A One-of a-Kind Medium-Telephoto Lens, Impressively Small and Light: Fixed Focal Length Macro lens is suitable for a wide range of situations, from close-up photography to natural snaps and portraits; its small, light build (298g) makes it amazingly easy to carry
  • Fast, Accurate Phase Hybrid Autofocus: Advanced subject detection and metering technologies capture the target subject in focus even in adverse lighting conditions; once locked on the subject, it keeps tracking even with multiple moving objects
  • High Resolution and Outstanding Photographic Performance: High resolution and elaborate photographic performance in every area, from the center of the image to the edges; faithfully captures every detail of the subject while creating bokeh unique to medium-telephoto macro lenses
  • Powerful Image Stabilization: With the S5II and S5IIX LUMIX developed Active I.S., which supports walking shots, to further enhance image stabilization in video recording
  • Optimal Video Functionality: Lens operates silently, ensuring that video production is undisturbed, thanks to a Dual Phase Linear Motor that suppresses focus breathing (in which the angle of view changes, caused by movements in the focus position.)
  • Expressive Video Functionality: 14+ stop V-Log/V-Gamut capture delivers a high dynamic range and broad colors, plus a REAL TIME LUT function is provided to enable in-camera photo and video color grading, with LUT6K 30p Open Gate unlimited recording
  • Workflow Efficiency Through Unified Design: Streamline your workflow -- this lens is made to align with other S series lenses for a unified experience of operation and design. Likewise, the descriptive performance is unified for efficient post production.
  • Unlimited Video Recording: Heat dispersion mechanism combines a small fan and high-efficiency heat sink to achieve unlimited video recording while keeping the camera size compact

  • Nice, east-to-use, video camera
Style: w/ 20-60mm Set: Base
I have a few video cameras, mostly intended for serious use and requiring the videographer to make most adjustments manually. What I wanted was something with more automation that would work well for situations in which I didn't want to spend a lot of time setting the camara's parameters for the particular shooting situation. I also wanted something that worked reasonably well hand held without a gimbal. Ths fits the bill. I haven't put it through all of its paces but both the autofocus and image stabilization seem to be a cut above what's available in similar cameras at a comparable price point. Also the size and form factor make it an easy and incospicuous camera to operate. The image quality is also quite good, with natural-looking colors and proper saturaton. As I said, I haven't used it yet in highly demanding situations. But from what I've seen so far, I feel that I can safely recommend this camera for shooting very good quality videos without the need for a lot of ancillary equipment to assist with focusing or image stabilization. If I couldn't lug a tripod or set up a camera cage with a wireless focus pull motor and were shooting a non-stationary subject, this would easily be my choice from among the several cameras I own. That's not to say that it wouldn't work well on a tripod or gimbel (sits relatively mall size is a great advantage here) or fitted out with a cage and attachments. But those things really aren't as necessary for this cameras as they are for some other high-quality video cameras. My five-star rating is qualified by the fact that I haven't had the camera very long or used it across a wide range of situations. So I can't say that it works magnificently in every scenario or that it will last nearly forever. But I don't know that those things aren't true, either. And based on what it has been used for so far, it does just what I want. ... show more

  • Value for money
Style: w/ 20-60mm and 50mm Set: Base
Excellent camera with many features.. could use an even smaller body. Picture quality is good. Need to have some skills to use. High resolution videos needs rather strong computer setup to process.

  • My first camera and I love everything about it
Style: w/ 20-60mm Set: Base
This camera came heavily recommended by so many people and I have to say im very happy with it. While I have no way to compare to other cameras in this price range I haven't found myself wanting more that this camera doesnt offer. It has great video features and takes beautiful photos.. Im not even good and getting good quality pictures. Camera stabilization features are very good and everything from the construction and feel of the camera is quality. Theres are lot to love but I do have a few problems that i havent quite figured out how to address. -I have made a lot of configurations but I just cant get them to get saved. I have to constantly load my settings every time I turn on the camera and its really nuisance. Luckily the menu always stays on load when its prompt. -The camera gives features to lock all functions but only when recording.. would be nice if you could do it while photographing. Not sure how to do it if it isnt the case. I read the whole guide and didnt find anything on how to address this issue. ... show more

  • Good for the price, 5 star but
Style: w/ 20-60mm Set: Base
So many pros: The colors are beautiful and accurate like no others Easy menu interface and intuitive High-quality build Small but perfect with the grip Built-in quality good lens quality dedicated, not many but enough The best price for the level, you can do pro works Professional for the price but it has some cons: The battery doesn't last and you will need the battery grip to add one more. Even with the battery, it will have a poor life. don't worry all cameras at this level have the same issue maybe 20% more life. The square form design makes it a little hard to handle for many hours and will make it scratch easily in corners. Caps are rubber-frail High ISO pictures are unusable from 51000 and up, or you will need to spend much more on pro lenses to get pro jobs at low lights. f -.8 or less. No high-quality zoom lenses from 200 mm and up Less screen and visor resolution than some dated Panasonic cameras. No 24-105mm f2.8 lens like competitors have. I love it instead it is not perfect. ... show more

  • PDAF and IBIS make for a huge difference
Style: w/ 20-60mm and 50mm Set: Base
Coming from micro Four-Thirds, I'd used Panasonic bodies for a while. The familiarity with the S5 Mk II is immediate. Having used a GH4 and GX8 at skate parks to record video and get photos, I had many experiences with Panasonic over the years. The one thing that was uncomfortable was auto focus. With Panasonic or Olympus lenses, Panasonic bodies would hunt for focus. It's much better with the S5 Mk II, although it still isn't as good as it should be--95%, I'd say. I'm still becoming accustomed to it, but during night shoots, it isn't doing as well as the GH4. This will likely be improved through firmware updates. I had similar issues with the Olympus E-M1. The In-Body Image Stabilization is amazing. It's as good as a micro Four-Thirds Olympus body with the smaller sensor. That's surprising. That makes it better than the competition. Add a Panasonic lens with OIS, and it's even better. I love that the body and the lenses are weather-sealed. I photographed outside during three hurricanes with the Olympus E-1, so I know that weather-sealing is important. It's reassuring that every Panasonic lens is sealed. The only downfall is that there are only a few lenses and most of them are f/1.8. Even though the IBIS is strong, working in darker conditions can be tricky. I'm waiting for more telephoto lenses, as well. I'm sure that Panasonic has developed a capable body for video or stills and this is it. ... show more
