Using your normal mouthpiece, the sound is decent. Maybe the upper range is limited, but if you need to travel and want to keep practicing, it is decent. It saves me risking my good horn and allows me to continuing to practicing. You’re either climbing the mountain or sliding back down. It even comes with replacement valves! Pro Trumpet player here. I kind of bought this as a joke, because it was so cheap and I had some spare cash. I honestly don't regret buying it; for a plastic trumpet, its not terrible. But this trumpet simply isn't on the level of a real C trumpet, and if you're looking to ACTUALLY buy yourself a C trumpet to bring to perform or play in rehearsals, you should look around for the real deal. You can often find horns for pretty good deals on Reverb.com, or check the inventory of your local music shop every once in a while, and see if there's a good deal. You can usually also rent instruments from your local music store, some will even allow you to own it after you've paid it's worth. As for a review of the actual trumpet, the good news is that it plays notes. Don't use the plastic mouthpieces it comes with, they're garbage and will destroy your chops. If you're looking for it to play in tune, think again, because the intonation (tuning of each note) on this horn is pretty awful. With no adjustment, some pitches can be more than a quarter-tone sharp or flat. The tambre (tone quality) the instrument produces is quite dead and dull which can be a good thing in some cases, but usually is something that you wanna avoid. The valve action is pretty okay, about as good as it can be on a plastic junk trumpet from amazon. For how cheap it is, it's a good deal, just please don't buy this thinking that it's a cheap replacement for a real horn, because it plays super bad in comparison. ... show more

My first plastic trumpet, which isn’t surprising. Valves are a little sticky even after oiling with the good stuff. But not horribly so. Which is to say, I doubt you’ll find better at this price point. Slider on the third valve is a little loose. Might have to tape it in place. Other than that, plays and sounds great. I got this to replace a similarly priced metallic C trumpet I got a number of years ago. The lever on the spit valve broke in half on that one. This plastic is definitely going to be stronger than the crappy Chinese pot metal used on some parts of cheap metallic trumpets. This trumpet is light, sleekly black, of good quality for the price, and I have no hesitation recommending it as probably the best bang for buck you can get in a trumpet. ... show more
