The OXO Good Grips Egg Beater brings innovation to a tried-and-true kitchen tool. Comfortably whip up omelets, light batters or whipped cream with our Beater with an extended bridge designed to rest against the bottom of bowls, reducing arm strain while you mix. This mixer is perfect for my use case.....scrambled eggs! It's well made, typical of OXO. I like that it is handheld not electric. Takes me right back to the 1960s in a good way. It mixes very well. Makes scrambled eggs taste like Mom's. Easy to pop off the beaters and put in the dishwasher.

This purchase is a gift so my review is based on the same product that I have used for several months, mostly for making whip cream from heavy cream. This beater is so convenient and easy to use. Just pick it up, put it into the bowl with whatever you want to mix and crank away. It's really easy to crank too fast and splatter your food around the room so control yourself. Despite it being sold as an egg beater I've never used it for that because I always forget about it and I usually just mix up my eggs in the pan as I scramble them. I used it last week to make a cake and it was real easy to use and did a great job of getting clumps out of the mixture. As it all began to mix well it got pretty thick and more difficult to mix but this beater handled it well with only slightly more force on the handle. Cleaning is not so easy as there are 8 blades and the blade support to clean. I find that licking the remaining whip cream off the blades as well as I can is enjoyable and delicious and makes less mess to clean off the beaters. While the remaining stuff on the blades is still fresh I run it under hot water and spray with the kitchen faucet sprayer until it looks clean. The put it in the dishwasher to make sure it's cleaned well. The beater assembly detaches from the motor easily so it can be popped into washer and you can also remove each of two beater blades completely for washing. I think it works great and that's why I bought another to give to someone. I recommend this product based on my personal use.

Great for liquids, but not for thick mixtures

All in all, this hand-held egg beater is pretty great! It's comfortable to hold and extremely easy to clean and manage. The rotational gears are extremely smooth as well. For lightly beating egg yolks/whites, liquid mixtures, and light creams it's a major investment. However, if you're getting it to substitute an electric beater, I'd personally save up a little more for a more versatile utility. For the first few minutes this egg beater is great! It can get egg whites frothy immediately with no problem and works just like any other electric whisk, but after the three minute mark, when the egg whites start to triple in volume and get thicker, it's tough. Even after spinning the grip for minutes, my meringue would not get stiff peaks because the whites had already sunken in on themselves. My french macarons came out a disaster and I'm not looking for my electric whisk once again. Basically, for everyday uses, this thing is wonderful! Again, it's simple and easy to clean, but you'd be better off using an electric whisk - hand-held or standing - for thicker mixtures. Still, I'll be keeping this for future uses, so it was an alright investment - just not for what I had gotten it for.

Best I ever had!

Over my long lifetime, I have always enjoyed using these crank-operated egg beaters. Each set had its foibles, and the only one I had a lot of respect for was the Kuhn Rikon. Mine has disappeared, and I have started doing things with eggs again, so I picked up this OXO egg beater. None of the ones I had before this came anywhere near being as good as this one. The way the beaters are designed made me nervous at first, but after a few sessions, I've gotten to realize they froth up those eggs much more than the others! The crank mechanism isn't quite as smooth as the Kuhn Rikon was, but it's very close Also, I can separate all 4 parts and only wash the beaters and the holder for them. I would reccomend this to anyone who likes to use something like this without relying on electricty or batteries.

Best egg beater ever. I had one just like it for many years and used it a lot, and it eventually cracked at a narrow spot in the plastic. I noticed that this new one has been re-designed so hopefully won't have the same problem. Very easy to use and clean. Highly recommended.

Beats the Batter

Does it work? Yes. Does it make mixing cookie batter like 10,000 times easier? Also yes. I bought this on a whim because I hate messing with the stand mixer and the electric beater is a pain to get out a plug in. This? No plugs to mess with, lightweight, and does the job. My recipe calls to beat eggs until firm. This does that and it's easy to clean. I like to use old recipes. Now I can cook like it's 1899 with my non-electric beater (just don't make me use a wood fire stove, okay?). Let's see, the ideas box also wants me to add more: Holds nicely in the hand. Doesn't splatter all over the place. Good price. Oh, and it fits in the drawer. Comes apart in the middle and it's dishwasher safe (bottom part only). TLDR; It does the job and does it well. Try it if you need a beater.
