    • Decent compact meter, but confused my dad a bit
Over the summer I went to visit my family up north, and my dad wanted me to help him fix his welder that was giving him problems. I needed to test some resistances and all he had was a cheap Harbor Freight meter with broken leads (I have one in the exact same condition!) and a 40+ year old meter he dug out from when he was in the service industry that wasn't much better. I came home and sent him this inexpensive clamp meter (his ancient one was a clamp meter) to try out. It worked ok for him, but caused some confusion given the tight labeling and the unusual choice to have two "off" positions on the control wheel. That makes the "select" button look like it's labeled with the larger "OFF" label. The form factor of this unit doesn't make it the most handy for hand-held use, since the display is sideways on the bottom side of the body instead of along the top. If you have big hands like me and my dad, the location is somewhat problematic to keep fingers out of the way too. The basic features all operate as expected but the non-contact voltage sensor for detecting live AC circuits didn't behave the way I expected. Overall, he was happy enough with it and at a minimum, at least I'll have something that works next time I visit! ... show more
