  • Updated Review: Great product, just be careful with your retraction settings.
Color: Silk Copper
UPDATE: I found that this filament needs slightly lower retraction settings than I use on other silk filaments, and I had to disable z-hop as well. The z-hop (because its a vertical motor movement, which takes longer than X & Y) would take a fraction of a second before actually moving out of the Z axis. And this fraction of a second let some filament ooze out of the nozzle, which over several layers would result in long blob strings building up over time (seen in the retraction towers photo). I've uploaded some more recent photos that are 100x better (though there's still a slight bit of stringing, its such a minor amount that it doesn't bother me). I've attached photos of the material settings I had to make for overture silk filaments. Hopefully it helps others. Leaving my below (now inaccurate) review in case it's similar to the experience someone else may be having. ORIGINAL (Inaccurate) REVIEW: I personally really like Overtures PLA filaments. I would say maybe 1/3rd of my filaments are from them. And I've printed a decent amount of silk PLA as well (just not Overture brand). I purchased the Overture Silk Copper PLA filament, and the first thing I printed was a filament sample. And the majority of the surface looked ok except for the one spot with the letters "PLA". I figured maybe it was just something minor and went on to try printing a turbine for a model of a jet engine, and as you can see in the photos, it was absolutely disastrous. I put it next to another silk print of the same part and print settings (I actually just reprinted the same model/gcode after changing the filament. I dried the filament then tried increasing/decreasing the temperature, retraction distance/speed, print speed, z-offset, and tried printing various calibration towers for speed, temperature and retraction. And the globing/stringing is present. I Googled "overture silk PLA issues" and it looks like this is a somewhat common problem with Overtures silk PLA filaments. I will still continue to buy from Overture, but not for silk filaments. If I ever find a combination of settings that prevent these issues, I will be sure to update this post with those values. Thanks. ... show more

  • At $14 this is an excellent buy
Color: 1kg Black
Quality is great, prints well, wish I purchased more at the sale price. Leaves a nice finish at ~190, and adheres well with 55 on PEI, but could definitely be tuned more for my printer. Even at its normal pricing it is still good quality filament that I would recommend as a gift for someone with a 3d printer. ... show more

  • Prints sooo smooth
Color: 1kg White
Usually we use hatchbox and honestly the quality has been going down on top of the fact the rolls have been twisted up… First time trying this and so impressed with my print quality compared to hatchbox!!! This prints sooo smooth and looks fantastic in the end! Will continue using this filament!

  • Very high quality filament, just lighter than pictured.
Color: Space Gray
I really like this filament, the only problem is I was trying to get several shades of gray as I have white and black, and Prusa silver PLA. From the pictures, this looked to be a darker shade of gray than the Prusa silver, so I bought it. It is IDENTICAL, which was a big disappointment. Not the filament or the brand's fault though, just photographic inaccuracy. Keep in mind if you buy this needing a very specific gray; it's a bit lighter than pictured. I would like to make a note because I see a lot of reviews of filament where people complain about tangles. Let me explain something to you: if you see someone saying this, they are a 3D printing newbie and are largely clueless. Filament spools have no tangles on them but what are put there by the user. What happens is the user releases the end of the spool and lets in snap back onto the roll. When this happens, it gets tangled. This is not the filament's fault. A TANGLE CANNOT HAPPEN ON A SPOOL OF FILAMENT AS WOUND BY THE COMPANY. How could it? It is wound as one solid strand on the spool. Keep careful hold of the end of your filament when loading and unloading, and you will NEVER have a tangle. ... show more
