  • Works Great! But.....
Size: Small/Medium Color: Black
These things work great for keeping rocks/sand/debris out of my hiking boots. As a a lot of previous reviews stated you may want to consider buying the small size instead of large. I took the advice and it fit my size 13 X-Wide Hiking boots perfectly. If they were any bigger I'm not sure they'd work. I'm giving these a 5 start rating, BUT there is one downside for me. I live in the Arizona desert and typically hike when the temperatures exceed 100 degrees. The first time I wore these Gaiters I hiked 14 miles and the temp started around 90 degrees and went beyond 100 by the time I was finished. For the first time in years I developed a blister on top of my pinky toe. When I took my socks off to put on some mole skin and tape I noticed that my socks were soaking wet. This is not normal for me and I can only attribute it to the Gaiters making my feet very hot and not allowing air in or out of my hiking boots. When I got home and took both socks off my feet looked like I'd had them soaking in water for 6 hours. Aside from my particular issue with the heat, these Gaiters are very well made and work as described. I would recommend them but be prepared for possible blisters if hiking in extreme heat. ... show more

  • Smaller size may work best.
Size: Small/Medium Color: Black
Disclaimer: I have only worn these on two backcountry hikes. But so far, they are exactly what I needed. I am 6'2" and wear size 12 hiking shoes (not boots) and I have been plagued by stickers, thorns and brush getting on my socks and into my shoes when hiking off trail. I was literally plucking debris from my socks in the Petrified Forest when I saw I had phone signal and ordered them immediately. Because of my size, I was tempted to order large. But so many reviewers recommended S/M that I ordered the smaller size. They are perfectly fitted for keeping debris out of my shoes and off my socks. I am a little concerned about how the strap that goes under the shoe will last because most of my hiking currently is on rough and rocky surfaces. So far they look good. At this point I am very happy with my purchase. ... show more

  • SM vs LG - Bought both - Size 13 Mens Shoe
Size: Small/Medium Color: Black
I bought the large but returned it in favor of the small. I am 6-1, 190# and wear a size 13 Keen Mens Targhee Mid Hikiing boot. The really important dimension however is the circumference of my leg at its smallest just above my ankle which is 9". The other important point is the primary reason for getting these and what I won't be wearing with them - pants. A typical hike for me is 12 miles with 3000+ feet of elevation gain. I sweat a lot and always wear shorts when hiking unless it is below freezing.,,I live in the south so it would be rare for me to wear these with pants. I bought these not so much to keep trash out of my boot but to keep water out of my boot. Specifically rain water running down my leg and filling up my boot. Or if I have a lot of stream crossing something to keep water from splashing into the top of my boot - at least slow down its entry. For 75% of my hikes I won't wear these because I don't want to trap even more heat and sweat in my boots. So an added benefit of the small size is less bulk and weight in my pack for something that I usually won't wear unless I get caught in the rain. So...for how I will be using them the Large was way too big. It came up higher on my calf than the small but its not going to stay there and I don't want it that high - I want it just above the top of my boot. When it fell down to the top of my boot there was a lot of material billowing to the sides. And with my ankle circumference the elastic did not grip my leg and I could stick a finger between my leg and the elastic without stretching the elastic. The small was a much better foot. Came just above my boot without billowing out. I secured the buckle in the third hole from the end of the strap. The elastic was not tight around the small of my ankle - it was actually still a little loose. To keep rain from running down my leg and past the loose elastic top of the gaiter I shaved one blade width around my leg just above where I want the elastic top to sit. I will use Leukotape P to tape the top of the gaiter to my leg for a watertight seal. The tape is also good for blister prevention and many prefer it to moleskin. It was frustrating not being able to figure this out without buying both so I hope this level of detail helps someone get where they want to be faster. Happy Trails ... show more

  • Good material quality and function
Size: Small/Medium Color: Black
I bought these to replace a pair of cheap REI gaiters. I have mixed feelings but am overall happy with them. On the good side, the material seems durable, and resists burrs and stuff sticking to them (aside from any exposed velcro, that is). One thing that was not obvious to me from the pictures is that the top and bottom of the velcro strips have an extra tab that wraps over the top to really lock those areas in place securely - I really nice upgrade feature. The bottom strap with buckle is very excure - I might have to replace the strap at some point, but I doubt I will ever have to mess with the buckle at all. Having only hiked in them about 40 miles, I never had to worry about them coming loose while hiking, unlike the other pair I had. The only thing I do not like about them (and this is purely a form, rather than a function issue) is that they tend to balloon out around the ankle after a full day of hiking. They still (functionally) keep sand and other debris from finding its way into my boots, but it looks like I'm wearing bell bottoms. It's just a little too much fabric in the middle for me - probably due to it being one-size fits all and the need to fit larger legs/angles/boots. It's not worth taking any stars away though, these gaiters work the way they should. ... show more
