After looking at the options on Amazon, I decided to give these a shot to replace some that had worn out. They come nicely packaged and with a small bag to carry them in? I’m not sure I would remove my wet gaiters and stuff them into a bag, but that’s may just be me. They seem to be made of a sufficiently heavy nylon and the build quality seems acceptable for the price. The zip up feature was nice. Others that I tried had Velcro which does wear out over time. Everyone one I have seen uses the same plastic strap and buckle around the bottom of your boot. Better ones have a leather strap. Nothing out of the ordinary here but nothing that stands out. It will fail but unknown if it’s 2 weeks or 2 years. The biggest problem with these is that they are extremely tight on my legs. I am a pretty big guy but my legs aren’t abnormally large. These are very tight around my calves and I could see them being uncomfortable if worn for extended periods of time. Bottom line, I think they are a good value for the money if they fit you well. These are great gaiters, I walk and snowshoe in deep snow and gaiters are a necessity. I appreciate the pockets you can tuck the bottom straps into to keep them out of the way. My only skepticism is the bottom straps--will they hold up to extreme cold and/or rocks when crossing streams, etc.? I'm not going to ding them for that, hopefully they do fine. I purchased as a backup to my primary gaiters as the Velcro is starting to go. Here goes: It rains a lot in our state. I dislike the Velcro design of gaiters as it wears out over time. And I really, really wanted to like this pair of gaiters, but in my opinion it falls short in every category. So here's why: 1. Material is light and flexible, but it doesn't handle brambles, underbrush occasional thorn or pricker branch, rocks, or really much abuse without showing signs of wear or damage. 2. The zipper is not backed with a seal, making it vulnerable to moisture and the wet seeping in through the zipper. When standing in wet snow while I cooked and ate lunch, water seeped in soaking my pant leg and my boot sock before I realized what was going on. 3. It doesn't close well around the front and side around the boot, allowing mud, water, ice, snow and even a twig to get lodged up in there. It gets worse the larger your foot is, and when you remove the gaiter, you have a bunch of muck to shake out. 4. The stitching was... Being polite... Not great. It has double stitching - which is great - if they'd lined it up right. On both of my gaiters only one line of the double stitching actually hits the fabric. 5. The front boot hook does not stay put. I walked from my car trunk to my driver's seat and it came undone. I reseated it on my laces and tightened everything up. I walked about 200 feet on the trail and noticed it again had come undone. The hook is cheap metal. I bent it into a more closed hook by squeezing it with my fingers. 6. Only water resistant. It rained while I was on another hike. I carry a rain poncho and threw that on over me and my small day bag on my back. The rain ran down the sides and collected around the cheap elastic drawstring around the knee. There is no material there that keeps or resists moisture. Water got in and soaked my pantleg again. Upgrades: I've modified my pair by running three pieces of Marine grade elastic cord around the bottom boot edge, the middle where the material transitions, and replaced the very cheap cord at the top. I also redid most of the seams and sealed them with waterproof tape. I've also added a waterproof treatment to the fabric, around the knee, and backed the zipper with some neoprene to keep water from seeping in, and gave it better stitching using military grade thread so it'll hold together better. Now it performs really well, but I feel like I had to put a considerable amount of time, effort and material into upgrading the weaknesses of the original product just to make it hold out against the elements better. I even bought a YKK zipper in the event this one fails. Sure I like my hikes, but I'm not even putting them through any sort of extremes, just regular wet, sometimes rocky, sometimes muddy mostly clear trails. Sometimes I like to go off trail to see a sight from a better vantage point, but still nothing that should challenge a gaiter, and yet this one was challenged. Not a great backup gaiter. In hind sight I should have just bought a better pair, but if you are inexperienced, will only use them to walk paved trails, subject them to light splashing, and won't put them through any moderately challenging situation that will put the durability to the test in really any way, then this is a good starter gaiter. But if you plan on doing any sort of walking through wet brush, using this while it's raining, standing in wetness, planning on coming out of a hike with dry or even lightly damp pant legs... maybe look elsewhere. This product needs some quality control, and upgrades in materials and design. Until then, this is likely not a great product for you. ... show more

I abused these gators for a week in Idaho with tons of heavy backpacking, underbrush, climbing, etc. There was a lot of snow and tons of rain. They held up and I had no issues with the straps like some people have reported. Well worth it for the money. They fit fine and I have a size 15 shoe and large calves. ... show more
