I really wanted to love these and I they do provide some needed protection in some key areas but it falls short by NOT being fully waterproof. I'll explain: The good, it's got plenty of straps and velcro to make it fit exactly the way you want. I'll get to why how some straps aren't ideal, but just know they feel good and work somewhat as advertised. They also protect against brush and snow just fine (at least drier snow), so that's great. The uppers are also waterproof so if you hit a wet bush, it'll slide down. The bad, the straps are almost unneeded as the velcro does most of the heavy lifting. They also have nowhere to be put away so you have these things bobbing up and down making them somewhat annoying. The worst part is that they aren't "clips and pull", they are threaded straps like cheap backpacks. That's probably to save costs, but that's a huge slowdown getting them on and off. The stirrups are also going to get shredded instantly if your boots don't have a space for them. My boots do not have room and I could see wear on them after just 10 minutes. They are also not the same material as the upper straps, they are more a fake leather feel. I think it was to make them more durable but they are stiffer and do not have a lot of wiggle room. I found myself instantly frustrated by them and probably wouldn't use them. The ugly, so I tried my final test on these which was a one second dousing of a hose on the uppers. The uppers kept my leg dry but the lowers (black part) are 100% not waterproof as advertised. They are a twill material and instantly soaked my pants (remember this was just runoff from the uppers). This was super disappointing as I cannot see myself using this in the rain at all. However, for dry snow, they would be fine. A wet snow would soak them for sure though. I think they thought wanted mobility near the ankle, which I get, but not at the cost of waterproofing. This should have been a slam dunk as most materials are easily waterproofed with a plastic backing (which there is none on the lowers). In fact, the uppers seem to be completely waterproof by the green material, so that should have just continued all the way through. Also, the straps could be upgraded to clips for easy on/off and a place for the extra strap would have been nice as well. As much as I like them, they are only good for a few things such as dry or very low wet hiking or during dry snow removal (which is probably what I'll use them for). I found these a bit challenging to put on! I think I finally figured it out by looking at the product photos, but it takes a while to get these situated on my legs, and it also takes a while to get them off. (No instructions were included.) Snap buckles would be so much easier to use than the threaded buckles, so that I could adjust the length once and then just snap them together and unsnap them to remove the gaiters. As it is, I have to thread the straps through each of the three buckles, then cinch them down. Taking them off means removing the straps from each of those buckles. It's not a hard process, but it's slow. Thie gaiters are nice and lightweight and comfortable to wear once you get them on. Water just rolls off the fabric. The wide Velcro strips and the buckles hold them firmly in place once they're on. The strap that goes under your foot seems a bit flimsy for that use. I haven't worn these enough to know if it will hold up over time but considering that these are for outdoor use where you may be walking over rocks and other rough terrain, I think those straps should be beefier. The gaiters should still work if that strap breaks, but a stronger strap would certainly be warranted. With the storage bag and the light weight of these gaiters, they're easy to travel with. I'm sure that over time I will get faster at putting them on and taking them off, but snap buckles would be so much better. The materials and construction quality are good for the price (except for the under-the-foot strap as I mentioned), so I think they're a decent value. I also think they will work well for their intended purpose. I just don't like how hard they are to get on and off. Give me snap buckles and a better strap on the bottom, and I'd give them five stars. ... show more
