  • Make an outdated stereo system, modern easily
When we take the grandkids out, we take all of them. Our Ford Explorer has a comfortable third row, but with more grandbabies arriving and a couple still riding in bulky car seats, space got tight fast—especially for the older, taller kids relegated to the very back. We needed something with real breathing room, so we picked up a 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan. The major drawback was the outdated factory stereo with zero Apple CarPlay. I looked into double-DIN dash replacements, but having put aftermarket units into older vehicles before, I know how sluggish and laggy those cheap touchscreens can be. Having had great luck with Ottocast wireless CarPlay adapters in our other vehicles, I bypassed the dash teardown entirely and picked up the OTTOCAST OttoScreen AI 11.4" Wireless CarPlay Display. I am almost totally blind, and my wife is the captain of the ship while I handle the tech research. When the box arrived, she commented that it looked like a massive, oversized rearview mirror. But the second you fire it up, that sleek 11.4-inch widescreen is remarkably bright, sharp, and vivid. Being accustomed to modern tech, having full responsive touch control is second nature, and the screen responds instantly to taps and swipes without stuttering. Setup was painless. The unit includes dual Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi 5 and 6) and dual Bluetooth. We paired it to the van's factory Bluetooth audio system and tethered it directly to our phone's hotspot Wi-Fi. Once connected, I logged right into my Google account so we could take full advantage of Gemini Pro. You can just say "Hey Gemini" or use custom wake words to trigger the voice co-pilot hands-free. While this mobile/in-car version doesn’t let you do every single in-depth technical thing you can do sitting down at a computer with Gemini Pro, the mobile setup on here is surprisingly hardy. Simply asking it to pull up a destination, fetch directions, or handle planning while rolling down the road makes it a genuinely useful co-pilot. We are primarily an Apple household, so the main attraction was wireless Apple CarPlay. It pairs seamlessly, boots up in seconds, and resumes our navigation and playlists right where we left off. Under the hood, this unit runs a full Android 15 operating system backed by an 8-core processor, giving it plenty of muscle to handle serious multitasking without choking. The split-screen capability is fantastic—you can have Apple Maps running on one half while streaming or monitoring Google Maps on the other. Audio routing is top-notch. It pushes clean sound through the Grand Caravan’s premium sound package over Bluetooth without distortion, and unlike cheaper systems, navigation voice instructions don't blow your eardrums out or harshly cut the music completely. The included 1080p backup camera was another huge upgrade. It runs on a dedicated wired cable back to the display, which is a massive plus for a long vehicle like a minivan because you get an instant, flicker-free video feed with zero wireless signal dropouts. The camera handles direct sunlight remarkably well without washing out, giving my wife clear visibility and dynamic parking lines so backing this long rig into tight spots is stress-free. Mounting took just minutes. When installing it, we carefully positioned the mount right where the new display sits in front of and cleanly hides the outdated factory screen, since this unit will be handling everything from here on out anyway. We routed the 12V power cord cleanly to hide the wires as much as possible, plugged in the camera, and boom—modern flagship tech in a semi-modern family van. Even better, the screen easily detaches from the base, so if we’re parking somewhere unfamiliar, we can slide it off and tuck it away out of sight. At the end of the day, while this costs more than a lot of the cheap touchscreen stereos on the market, you get so much more for your money. The lightning-fast responsiveness, flexible split screen, excellent audio quality, clear backup camera, and Ottocast reliability make it worth every penny. It brought an older van right into the modern era, and I would recommend it all day long, every day of the year. ... show more

  • Easy-to-install, fast, functional with video play support for many media apps - even has great AI
I wanted to update my otherwise solid 2002 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer edition to provide Carplay/Waze for me and Media consumption for passengers without the cost of buying and installing a small 7" Carplay-capable stereo in my vehicle. Even after 24 years, the stereo in it is good sounding if you are listening to radio or the 6-CD changer. The Ottocast Autoscreen AI arrived in a very solid cardboard box, complete with multiple cables to a bunch of installation and source audio options. The size is 11.4", but the aspect is VERY wide. This is a huge up-front advantage over smaller 7" screens with a more traditional old-school TV aspect of 4:3 since it means the screen is shorter and less intrusive into the windshield space. The wide aspect also enables split screen, where you can have a navigation app on one side and media on the other. Mounting with the provided dash adhesive mount was very easy. Just figure out where to place it on your dash where it is within reach but doesn't obscure you view of the road and place the adhesive mount there. Make sure you clean the dash completely and allow it to dry before placing the mount, and then let the mount sit on the dash for 24 hours in order to get a solid and lasting joining. The mount is super solid and didn't shake or move even when I took it offroad. Cable management needs to be thought out. You have a power adapter to plug into a cigarette lighter which has a USB C connector on the other end of it. if your car has a USB connector on the dash near the Screen, that can enable a much shorter cable run. Mine doesn't have that. And keep in mind you will still need to power your phone separately, there is no USB out on the back of the screen to connect it to. And be sure that the USB connector or lighter port DOESN'T stay on when the car is turned off or you may end up draining your battery. If you want to use the backup camera - a nice option - you will need to run a wire from the screen back to the camera mounted in the back of the car. They include a long, high quality cable I was able to run over the dash, down along the side of the dash, and under the carpet to the back of the car. The image is excellent and even helps you gauge your position when parking or backing. I made a couple of decisions upfront. Since my radio didn't have a screen, support an audio AUX in cable, or bluetooth - my audio connection would be to the FM radio in the car. This was actually super simple to do - just access the device settings, select audio and choose FM - where I could select an empty frequency on the radio and set my one of my radio presets to it. I was surprised at the quality of the sound that it played through my 2 decade old stereo! I was also able to make quality phone calls and hear the other person clearly while in Carplay mode. Setting up the device takes a bit of effort and thought if you want to use all of its features - but basic setup is similar to most Carplay setups with a bit of extra work to set up 2 connections if you want to use the media apps to access video sources that Carplay doesn't allow you to use - like Netflix, Youtube, Prime VIdeo, Hulu and most anything you can load from the Google Play Store. Yep, it works! Once fully confiqured, you can watch videos (while parked, of course) and even split the screen between Carplay / Android auto and Video sources. It actually blows other systems away in this regard. I'm still getting started using using built in Gemini AI - but with Android 15, built in GPS and access to both Carplay and Google Play store apps, this is one heck of a device. Voice control is quick and AI responses for local info are great. No slow, lumbering updates or glitchy navigation - the processor is high speed, networking is flawless and the screen is bright, rapidly updating, and an extremely crisp and colorful 1920x720 pixels. Bottom line - this system is easy to install, fast, functional and franky blows most OEM Carplay/Android Auto systems out of the water. The ability to split screens, handle dual network connections, and stream full video from a big stable of apps in the Google play store gives you capabilities way out of reach for most competing systems - without having the hack your car system. And you are getting it from Ottocast, a company which provides great tech support and regular updates and which I have been dealing with happily for years as a customer of other devices. If you need a great in-in car entertainment system and this is in your price range, buy it. I wholeheartedly recommend it. ... show more

  • Big upgrade for the truck; voice control is flaky
If you are not familiar with Amazon Vine, it is basically Amazon trading free* products for honest reviews. I do my best to make my reviews honest, real and value-oriented as if I had paid for each item I receive. * These items are not totally free as Vine members pay income tax on the items they receive. I only mention this because we Viners do have some skin in the game for each item we order. Why I ordered this item: My factory head unit in my truck is old and I've wanted to upgrade it for a while without ripping the dash apart. This mounts on top of it so I figured why not. Likes: * Setup took maybe 15 minutes. Stuck the mount to my dash, plugged it into USB and OBD power, and it pairs with my phone over wifi automatically after the first time. * The screen is bright and sharp. I can see it fine in direct sun and it dims down at night so it's not blinding me. * CarPlay connects wireless every time I start the truck, no cable needed. It picks up right where I left off, same playlist and same nav route. * I downloaded a few apps straight from the Play Store on it. Watched some YouTube while parked waiting to pick up my kid. * The backup camera image is crazy good for an included camera. I can still make out plates and curbs at night, and the parking lines move with the wheel. No likes: * The voice assistant is screwy. Sometimes it wakes up when nobody said anything, other times I have to repeat the wake word three times. * You have to manually claim the free windshield mount, its not automatic. I almost missed this and only got the adhesive dash mount. * Boot time isn't instant like the listing makes it sound. It's fast, but there's a startup wait before you get there. * Split screen mode is a little wonky when I run navigation and a streaming app together. The nav window shrinks down smaller than I'd like. Would I pay full price for this product: Yes Final thoughts: This turns an old truck into something that feels a lot more modern without touching the factory wiring. Just remember to claim that free mount separately or you'll be stuck with only the dash option. ... show more

  • Excellent upgrade for an older vehicle
I have used this screen regularly for several weeks for navigation, phone calls, music, and reversing, and the large 11.4-inch display has been one of the most noticeable differences compared with using a smaller built-in screen. The 1920 × 720 resolution keeps text and map details reasonably clear, and I found the touchscreen responsive when switching between functions while parked or during normal interaction with the system. Wireless CarPlay connected reliably during my regular drives after the initial setup. Once connected, I could access navigation, calls, and audio without plugging my phone into the screen. I also tested Android Auto and found the ability to use either phone platform useful when different devices are being used. Connection behavior is an important part of a device like this, and I paid attention to whether I needed to reconnect manually rather than judging it from a single successful connection. The split-screen mode is particularly useful for navigation because I can keep the map visible while using another supported function. The larger display gives each section enough room to remain readable, although the split view naturally makes each individual area smaller than using the entire screen for one application. I also explored the Android-based features, including Google Play and the AI functions. These make the unit more than a basic wireless CarPlay display, but they also add more settings and options to learn. The GPS functionality was useful for navigation, and I found having navigation available directly through the screen convenient when I did not want to rely entirely on my phone display. The included 1080p camera provided a useful view behind the vehicle. In good lighting, the image was clear enough for its intended purpose, while darker conditions reduced the amount of visible detail. I would consider the camera useful as an additional visibility aid rather than assuming that a camera eliminates the need to check the surroundings directly. ... show more

  • CarPlay Screen
I’ve been beatin’ on this screen for a few weeks now, maps, calls, music, backing up, the whole nine yards. That big ol’ 11.4-inch display is the first thing you notice. Way better than squintin’ at one of them tiny factory screens. The picture’s clear, the maps are easy enough to see, and the touchscreen does what it’s supposed to without makin’ me fight with it. Wireless CarPlay has been solid after I got it set up. I jump in, fire it up, and it connects without me messin’ around with cables. Tried Android Auto too, and it worked just fine. Being able to run either phone setup is handy when different folks are using the vehicle. The split-screen deal is actually pretty useful. I can keep my map up while running another function instead of constantly switchin’ back and forth. The screen’s big enough that it doesn’t feel like you’re lookin’ through a keyhole. I messed around with the Android stuff, GPS, Google Play, and the AI features. There’s a bunch of options, so you’ll spend some time pokin’ around getting it set up how you like it, but it does a whole lot more than a basic CarPlay screen. The backup camera works good too. Daylight picture is clear enough to see what’s behind you, but nighttime ain’t magic — it’s still a camera, not a pair of eagle eyes. It’s a good helper, but you still gotta use your mirrors and look around before you back that thing up. ... show more

  • Massively upgrades your drive with a huge 11.4" display and wireless CarPlay!
I installed the OTTOCAST OttoScreen AI (2nd Gen.) 11.4" Wireless CarPlay Screen in my 2012 Honda Civic, and it completely transformed the interior tech of an older car. Adding modern infotainment without tearing out factory wiring or paying for expensive head unit replacements can be tricky, but this standalone display delivers an ultra-responsive, widescreen experience right on top of the dash. The 11.4-inch display is extremely crisp, bright, and vibrant, making turn-by-turn navigation on Apple Maps or Waze effortlessly clear at a glance. The ultra-wide aspect ratio gives plenty of screen real estate for split-screen views—you can run maps right alongside your media player or call details without feeling cramped. Touchscreen responsiveness is impressively fast with virtually zero input lag when tapping through menus or zooming in on maps. Wireless CarPlay setup was quick and straightforward. After the initial Bluetooth and Wi-Fi pairing, the screen connects automatically within seconds of starting the Civic. The wireless connection remains rock-solid during long drives, streaming music smoothly without stutters or GPS audio delays. Audio output routes easily to your car's existing speaker system via AUX, FM transmitter, or Bluetooth, giving you clear, high-quality sound through your factory car speakers. The mounting system holds the wide screen firmly in place without bouncing or vibrating over bumps and rough roads. Having a large, modern 11.4-inch smart screen mounted cleanly on the dash gives a 2012 vehicle the interior tech feel of a brand-new model. If you drive a 2012 Honda Civic or any vehicle with an older factory radio and want to upgrade to a massive, modern wireless CarPlay setup without dashboard modification, the OTTOCAST OttoScreen AI 2nd Gen is an outstanding choice. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Turned my vanilla poverty trim Jeep into a nicer level of audio comfort
I am fan of the OTTOCAST brand and this is another really good product. My Jeep is ten years old and has a small plain poverty trim radio with just AM/FM CD and an aux input. This device has turned our poverty trim jeep into a more modern feel with a useful and really slick entertainment center. Pairing to my phones bluetooth and wifi is straight forward. Then the device is essentially a nicer android deck with the options to load your android apps and music programs. I loaded the SyriusXM app and now can stream using my wifes subscription, so she feels at home on road trips. You can also ask it for directions and get turn by turn from the google/Alexa whatever app. That is a nice upgrade for our jeep. I do have to have my phone and my phone wifi hotspot on for all this to work. As a practical matter, If I am going to the store I don't sweat it and run AM or FM. If we are going 20 plus minutes away I make sure the hotspot is up and it joins automatically. Pretty nice and slick. Another really good OTTOCAST product. Happy customer. ... show more

  • Ottoscreen Display
My vehicle did not have the large screen or wireless phone connection found in newer models, so I used this as an alternative to replacing the factory stereo. The 11.4 inch display is large enough for me to see maps without squinting but placement matters because I did not want it blocking my view of the road. I tested the position before pressing the mount down permanently and that saved me from putting it too high. My phone connected wirelessly and navigation, music and calls were much easier to control from the screen. It usually reconnects when I start the vehicle although it is not instant, there is a short wait while everything boots and finds my phone. The display is bright and readable during the day and I turn it down at night so it is not glowing in my face. Audio setup took the most experimenting because the best option depends on the vehicle. Once I found the cleanest connection it sounded good through my existing speakers. I like having newer dashboard features without pulling the original radio apart. ... show more
