Two rigid pockets make it easy to pull and replace water bottles as you pedal, while angled hipbelt and compression straps keep the pack close to your body and provide max stability over every trail. (No creep-around here.) Not a two water bottle kind of ride? No problem. Each water bottle sleeve can tuck away when not needed to provide a streamlined pack. Any way you customize it, the main compartment and side hipbelt pockets fit vital flat-fixing tools, a tube, snacks and more. I like nearly everything about this waist pack. It's roomy without being oversized, the waist pockets are generous, and it hugs the small of the back well. I think Osprey overthought the water bottle pockets. Instead of a normal bottle pocket, they tried to get fancy with a flap that snaps to the waist belt to make the "wall" of the pocket and a strap across the bottom so the bottle doesn't fall out. The idea, I take it, is to unsnap the flap and collapse it when you don't want to carry water bottles. The problem with this flap that unsnaps is, it unsnaps. With your bottle in it, sometimes, and then you get to backtrack a quarter mile back down the trail to find your bottle after it falls out. And the aggravating part is, I don't think the problem they're trying to solve was ever a problem. Soft water bottle pockets squish when there isn't a bottle in them and everything is fine, they didn't need this "collapsible" version. Other than the weird bottle pockets, I really like this lumbar pack. I laced some shock cord across the front to add a little extra capacity for shedding layers, and after I drill those snaps out and rivet the bottle pockets in place, it'll probably be nearly perfect. ... show more

I prefer a hip pack because it keeps the weight as low as possible on the bike. This is a good size, not too big, but sufficiently large to hold a few essentials. I LOVE this pack. I believe it’s targeted at mountain bikers and for MTB it’s irreplaceable. My full suspension mountain bike is from before they put water bottle holders on full suspension bikes. Add in a seat dropper and you’re really screwed for carrying anything other than a camelbak, and the positioning always hurt my lower back. If you’re mountain biking and two big water bottles will cover the bill, you CANNOT go wrong with this. Gear, pistol, bottles, crash pack, and even some nice little spots for headphone case and keys. Now, I also run a bit of distance. Two water bottles and a normal load out will start dragging down your backside. One bottle is no problem, so I’ll normally deal with the shuffle for the first bit of the run, dump a bottle along the way and grab it on the way back. I have the camelbak single bottle holder as well and it’s just not quite enough for a little longer adventure. ... show more

The pictures speak for themselves. I tested this pack out on one of the gnarliest trails in San Diego (ATT) and it performed very well. I loaded it down with everything that I would normally ride with in my backpack, including a water bottle, rain jacket, the bottom piece of my convertible full face, a OneUp EDC pump, spare tube, tools, first aid kit, snacks, wallet, keys, and phone. The pack stayed in place and I rarely noticed it was there, even when hitting jumps and flying down the chunky sections. Best of all, it was far less hot than riding with a backpack. This bag works great. Much nicer than a backpack in my opinion. I never have to take it off to access anything and I don't get the dreaded sweaty back freeze from putting a backpack back on after a big climb. I prefer using a water bottle versus a hydration bladder. I like how the water bottle is positioned at an angle so you can whip it out quickly and it's easy to put back while you're on the move. I would give it 5 stars but the storage compartment needs more dividers. It's quite deep and stuff can make it's way deep in the bowels of the pack and it's hard to find. ... show more

I ended up returning this. I have a 2L Dakine Waist pack that I am trying to replace with something a little bit bigger, and although this is technically larger, the space is just allocated differently. The main compartment isn’t very large, and importantly, it doesn’t open very wide, so it’s hard to organize things inside and even harder retrieving items. The zipper on top is almost impossible to close without putting in a lot of effort. It catches on the corners, and on the inner lining every single time. I love the color of this bag, and I like the hip pockets that are separated from the main, and the water bottle holders are great, but it just wasn’t very functional. ... show more
