Features

  • 1. Versatile Sound: The 5W Tube Guitar Amplifier Head features two preamp stages controlled by GAIN/VOLUME knobs, delivering clear tones to OverDrive sounds. With BRIGHT/WARM switch and high/medium/low EQ controls, it offers a wide range of sound customization for different needs.
  • 2. Handcrafted Output Transformer: The output transformer is handcrafted with a paper insulation process, which reduces stray capacitance and increases resonant frequency, leading to better high-frequency response and transparent sound. The use of Grain-Oriented Silicon Steel (35Z155-0.35) increases inductance and improves low-frequency performance.
  • 3.Single-Ended Output Stage: All tubes works all the time, The tubes are always working, amplifying the full audio signal throughout. More of the original tonal character is retained, with earlier and warmer distortion.
  • 5. Convenient Controls: The amplifier head features easy-to-use controls including a single channel, 1 x 12AX7 (ECC83) preamp tube, 1 x EL84 power tube, and 1 x 6Z4 rectifier tube, along with knobs for volume, gain, high, middle, and low, and output jacks for 8/16.

  • IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING . . .
Color: 5W
There is a great deal to know about Vacuum Tube Amplifiers just in the sound alone so when giving an opinion it is as diverse as talking about colors. There is only your very personal preference, that is exclusive. Beyond that we are concerning ourselves with Mechanical Integrity. I was highly reluctant to fork out an easy $1,000 for an amp without knowing if I will enjoy it sonically so I took a chance on this unit. A "Stand Alone" unit such as this is referred to as a "Head". A "Combo" has a speaker & cabinet included. If you are strictly looking to save money this (Head-type) may not be best but the serious problems arise with the cheapness of manufacturers who cut corners to keep costs down. When you purchase a Combo you are almost guaranteed to get a crappy speaker unless you are spending $3,000 or more. The serious problem in saving money & DIY projects is that there is a massive learning curve, without that knowledge you can easily destroy your brand new amplifier by making a very simple mistake. Even advanced technicians make mistakes so to save money you MUST HAVE THE BASICS! Turning on a TUBE HEAD without a load is DEATH BY HYPERTHERMIA! The circuitry will melt! That being said you may want to be safe & purchase a COMBO AMP instead. This EL-84 powered, GZ4 rectified, 12A preamp Head is impressively well built! All the switches, components, transformers, plugs, aluminum casing, & circuitry is of quality. I built my own Tube Amp 20 years ago to learn the basics & I know what I am looking at. At around $300 I was hesitant because most products honestly are garbage that is hobbled together for maximum profit. To a point I understand but that is why I am willing to invest in the knowledge. I was quite disappointed when I received this but the only possible shortcomings I could find were with its stock tubes. I replaced them all & this unit came alive. Tubes are very different in their performance due to the materials used inside them even having the exact same specifications. A lot of musicians know absolutely nothing about how these instruments actually work. But all of them have OPINIONS ranging from delusional fantasy to specific auditory preferences. This company provides only 2 options : #1 - a 5 watt single EL-84 with a Tube Rectifier and #2 - a 15 watt double EL-84 model. Tubes create a sound field that is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT to our ears than any Solid State Amp you are accustomed to hearing. Tubes for some reason (highly complex auditory science) sound extremely loud to us humans even though the amplifiers are rated exactly the same (approximately 10 times as loud!) so a little tiny 25 watt tube amp can practically knock your house down! It's LOUD! To fully enjoy a Tube Amps nature you need to "SAG" the power tubes & "Push" the preamp into high gain distortion. Now to do that is difficult unless you live in the country free of neighbors. So tubes are made in specific wattage ranges & plate voltages. Amp Techs are truly high level artistic techno-geeks & communicate in specialized electrical languages. If you want to fully enjoy your amp sonically then 15 watts is pretty much the limit. It's like having a Great Dane in a bachelor apartment. Turn it up & EVERYONE will know you play guitar . . . Even people you will never meet! If you live in an apartment 5 watts is plenty with Tubes. This way you can "Push" the amp hard without creating mortal enemies. A 15 watt amp is good for playing in a band . There are many different brands of tubes at various price ranges & there are serious differences in quality, durability, & SOUND! BEWARE of tubes that cost too much or (even worse) too little. JJ/Tesla tubes are good quality low cost while Mullard, Sovtek, Groove Tubes, Mesa Boogie, etc make great sounding tubes for a higher cost. I have never tried Golden Lion but those prices are more about High Fidelity Home Audio than the very compressed range sonically of a Guitar Amplifier. I hooked mine up to a Celestion G12H 30 watt, 8ohm speaker & the sound I get is amazingly good! I replaced the preamp tube which came with an ECC83 (12AX7) with an ECC82 (12AU7) which gives me more headroom clarity prior to distortion breakup. The way the amp sounded stock was pretty lackluster but the tube swap changed everything. Keeping in mind that I am playing through one of the best speakers ever made for guitar amps . . . I am VERY happy - UPDATE : Amp is still great! I changed out all 3 tubes which made a difference BUT after trying many different pedals one completely changed the character. Put a Behringer CENTAUR before the preamp & WOW! The harmonics & touch sensitivity just skyrocketed! This simple combination is unbelievable! Check it out, it blows my mind. The original preamp tube (12AX7) (ECC83) is too quick into distortion- replace it with a (12AU7) (ECC82) to provide more headroom & use the CENTAUR to add a more stable GAIN structure. I promise . . . The clarity is superb! ... show more

  • This is a very Nice Amp!
Color: 5W
This is really Nice! I own the Monoprice 5W Tube Amp, and also built the StewMac VF-1... all are very good..... This OriPure 5W is my favorite. The Tube rectifier adds a flavor that sets it above... hard to define - just a subtle Tube sound. As far as gain 1. MP Cleanest, 2. OriPure Mid Gain but still Clean, 3. VF-1 Hard Rock design. I put a 12AU7 in this OriPure and a EH 12AY7 in the MP.... Sounds great out of the box.... but pair it w a Nobels ORR-mini2. and Wow... for Blues, Country or Funk this is it! // I also really like the MP5... a bit cleaner sound for Fender like bright. ... show more

  • Good, Excellent For The Price
Color: 5W
I'm an experienced guitarist with lots of pro gear and decades spend in gigging groups. I bought this on sale during prime day ($200) looking for a practice amp for my grade school age daughter who's been playing guitar for about a year. She started on my beater Fender Pro Junior, but it's about given up the ghost with the usual cracked solder joints and what not. Plus I wanted something that had distortion capability with a master volume so she could address a wider range of music. I paired this with a Mesa Thiele type cab with a EVM12L speaker for testing, although when my daughter gets it for Christmas it'll be with a lighter speaker. Several points: This thing sounds pretty good. Great for the Price. There's a medium amount of gain - with high output pickups it's a bit more than AC/DC or Stones type gain. I haven't experimented with distortion pedals yet but it should work OK. The bright switch adds a bit more apparent gain, but still short of vintage metal territory. Clean volume is sufficient for practice. Clean tone is perfectly workable but bright with the EQ knobs straight up. The overall sound I would say is more tweed or British, not American. With a closed back/ported cab the low end is surprisingly OK. It's small and light which is good since it's for a kid. I would not try to gig this amp. For many tamer styles it would be loud enough with an efficient speaker. But I suspect it has board mounted pots and jacks, and certainly has board mounted tube sockets. There's no head cabinet - just a chassis with a metal bar partially protecting the tubes. So it's not going to be particularly shock tolerant. But as a way to get a kid into some mid-gain tones, it seems unbeatable for the price. I wish they would have wired in a passive series FX loop, even at the cost of an additional $10-20. I might do it myself. ... show more

  • Wow, great little legit tube amp!
Color: 5W
Perfect little tube practice amp. With a few adjustments of the dials and switching pedals I can make this sound like any amp I want from clean to over-driven. Very player should have one.

  • Tone Monster
Color: 5W
I cannot say enough good things about the OriPure 5W All Tube Guitar Amplifier Head OAH-05. Out of the box, with its PSVANE tubes, it sounded wonderful. Somewhat Champy, but tight on the bottom and just a little trebbly. And there is no noise! I did not hear any high frequency hiss nor 60hz hum. At this price, this is amazing. I do wonder what is going on inside there... But there is not a whole lot clean headroom, as it's configured, but that's not the intent with this box. Nor does it seem to be pushing 5W. But the tone is great for a practice amp. Just make sure your speaker(s) are very efficient. I even swapped some tubes. I found the sockets pretty tight, so some of my attempts were not possible. I did manage to install a J&J 12AU7, and then had a wide range of clean gain - and the tone was sooo wonderful.... if only I could make it really loud! So I did: I plugged the 8ohm output of my OAH-05 into the Line input of my Solid State amp, and took it easy with the gain and volume settings. Now I can get a extraordinarily good tone as loud as I want! ... show more

  • update 2-April 2025 now Apil 22, 2025
Color: 5W
For the price, sounds super great...some static, but not too bad. One of the best amps I have ever had, actually. Will it last, we will see:). Update (2025): still going strong, I actually bought another one of these because they sound so great. I have a Boss Nextone too, I like that a lot btw, not tube, of course…but like the sound, can get same, but tube different out of this amp. 2nd update: April 2025—This company has excellent customer service. I had a little issue and contacted Oripure. They (Sophie) got right back to me and resolved the issue. Really, best customer service I have received for at least 10 years. Sophie, greatly appreciated your time and attention. And awesome sounding amps! April 22, 2025. Again, these guys were great. Now I want to try pickups, just such good customer service. Again, Sophie, who I worked with, the best. I am not sure if that is her real name, cause might be overseas, but, thanks again, in this day and age…old reference, (cause I am over 50), such a great thing to experience again. I will support companies like this. Again, I am not getting paid, etc. no youtube ripper guitarist, average but just love playing. Not sure how tariffs will affect all this, but currently, price for this sound….dang, not sure how you all did it, but again, I will support. Bill ... show more

  • Failed after a single use.
Color: 5W
To be clear - On the first use it sounded great. The 3 band eq perfomed exactly as expected. Good gain, good volume, took pedals nicely, adequately loud but not overwhelming when plugged into an 8ohm 1x12 celestion v30. The second time I tried to use it, exact same power, exact same cables, exact same speaker, complete failure. Willing to consider the possibility that I just got a bad one, but... not worth the time and trouble. ... show more
