I am on a liquid diet. I have been for the better part of the last year and that may never change. Most of what is easily available for such a diet is sweet -- ice cream, pudding, juice, jello, etc. One thing that has become a staple for me is Pacific Organic Tomato Soup. I love it. But the same thing could get tiresome after a while, and to prevent that from happening, I needed some good alternatives. Soup is a logical place to begin, but I can't eat any soup with lumps, chunks, or solids in it. I've tried other soups by Pacific and I don't much like them. Typical canned soups are out of the question, and while one local supermarket offers a couple of delicious soups in their deli section -- a Thai coconut soup and an Indian curry -- they are very expensive and not edible in their for-sale form. (But they're great when this blender finishes with them.) That is where the Breville hand blender comes in. After getting out of the hospital in December 2023, I did some research and narrowed the choice down to two hand blenders. One is made by Ninja and the other is this Breville model. I chose the Breville and although I have no idea how good the Ninja is, I am 100% happy about my choice. Among other things, the mixing container of the Breville appears to be a much better design than the Ninja's bowl. The handle and the no-skid lid that fits under the bowl for blending is very nice. Since that is what I do with my blender, I don't care about any other features of the Ninja, which is Amazon's "Choice." I have had mixed results with "Amazon's Choice" products. I don't find that "label" entirely reliable. I can take a canned soup or one from the deli and very quickly puree it to the point where it is safe for me to consume. I usually add a little hot water to the mix before I finish blending to make it a bit thinner for easier passage through my intestines. I have been impressed with how quickly and effectively the Breville blender reduces the lumps, chunks, and solids to a uniform liquid that is as thin or thick as I desire. This hand blender is easy to assemble after cleaning, comfortable to hold, and feels solid in every way. I have found cleaning it is simple and offers no problems. The original package included not just the blender but a mixing container with a well-thought out lid that the container can slip into and create a no slip base. The container is high quality, very useful, and, again, easy to clean. There is also a 3-Cup Chopper Bowl with stainless steel chopping blades and a whisking attachment. So far, I haven't used either one, but I might try the chopping bowl in the future if I come up with larger items that need to be chopped before they are blended. Given the quality and how well the blender works, I'm going to assume the other two accessories will also work well, but, not having used them yet, I can't rate them in this review. As I wrote above, I am completely happy with this purchase. I don't write many reviews. The majority of products today are nothing special and hardly worth commenting on. I did write an unfavorable review for a Denon CD player that is as overpriced as it is mediocre. Because I didn't begin to use it immediately after its purchase, by the time I was in a position to rate it, it was already too late to return it. However, I waited four months to write this review after starting to use the blender immediately and I feel comfortable giving this five stars across the board. At $129.00 it isn't inexpensive, but if someone needs a powerful, efficient, hand blender, I can't see them going wrong with this one.

I ordered the Breville BXB51XL Immersion Blender primarily for making breakfast smoothies after tiring of the time and work taking apart and cleaning my stand blender after every use. The blender is fast and powerful. Once you learn the technique of raising and lowering the blender in the mixing cup, it makes quick work of turning ice, fruit, and yogurt into a smoothie. I was also amazed at how neatly the blender works without splatter or splashing due to the design of the blending blades and shroud. The plastic mixing container is nicely designed with a handle for securing the container while blending, and the top when inverted and placed underneath acts as a skid proof cushion to keep the container from sliding around on the countertop while blending. The container and top can also be used to store soups or other liquids in the refrigerator. For me the blender works better at making liquid based creations (smoothies, milk shakes, soups), however, it does a decent job of chopping vegetables, onions, etc using the chopper attachment. The whisk attachment works great for beating eggs and making whipped cream. Clean up is a breeze, and Breville made this with safety in mind since the blades are protected by a shroud. The only potential negative is someone with very small hands may find the grip too large, however, I find the cushioned grip and trigger switch to be ergonomically pleasing. A note of caution - Amazon pops up a recommendation for a chrome milkshake mixing cup when you purchase the Breville blender. The base of the cup is too small for the blender, and can only be used with the whisk attachment, not the blender blade attachment. I would pass on the milkshake cup. A leading consumer magazine rates this blender higher than others costing 2X more. I followed that advice as well as the Amazon customer reviews and found a great kitchen tool at a great value.

My old Cuisinart stick blender broke down one day when I was attempting to chop some nuts and I decided to get a more powerful replacement. I’ve had this Breville blender for about three years now and it’s pretty much the only electric tool I use in the kitchen, and it’s still as good as new. It’s expensive, but I believe Breville products are made to last and they are also beautifully designed. It has a whipping attachment that works well on cream and egg whites, a good chopping bowl for nuts, etc., and a nice sized pouring jug that I’ve used to make smoothies, cranberry juice, lychee martinis, etc. The non-slip base works well to keep the jug or bowl steady while blending and nicely doubles as a lid to put on top for storage of your creation in the fridge. The stick blender is powerful and works well to blend a large pot of soup in a reasonable time. Cleaning is very easy – the stainless steel shaft is easy to detach and clean, as are the other parts. All parts that come into contact with food/liquid are BPA-free. I’d rate it 5/5 gold stars for functionality and 4/5 green stars for social and environmental impact (more on that below). The first thing that’s noticeable in terms of environmental impact is the packaging. It comes in a cardboard box, protected by a cardboard insert. Pretty minimal, although there are some plastic bags used to wrap items and there are not statements on whether the cardboard is recycled or FSC-certified. Breville have come up with an Australian Packaging Covenant to address ways to further reduce packaging and make it more sustainable. It looks like they're now using recycled cardboard for most of their packaging and are also looking at the supply chain for all of their materials. One of the most important things in terms of sustainability is product longevity. My 9 year old Breville Ikon kettle is still pretty much as good as new and I can say the same for this blender too. The materials are high quality and designed to last and I think the same goes for the internal parts and wiring, etc. Breville are open about some things like workforce gender equality but lose a green star for lack of transparency on some issues such as energy and water use, greenhouse gas emissions, waste stream processing, etc. I think they can fix this by just updating their website and reporting some numbers and goals. Based on the details in the Australian Packaging Covenant and the direction they are taking with their new products (such as introducing biodegradable bags for their juicer) it looks like they do have their heart in the right place.

I was about to buy another Cuisinart immersion blender to replace the failed one I had, when my son asked me why I would buy another of the same product when it had failed in a year. I really loved my immersion blender and used it quite often to scramble eggs and mix smoothies. The motor on mine had worn out and was slow and didn't blend like it used to. I had recently bought the Breville Smart Oven that I thought was way overpriced, but that was another appliance we had purchased multiple times over the years, so I splurged on the Breville because of the high customer reviews and Breville had been on Oprah's favorite things, the panini maker is a gift she gives to everyone apparently, so I figured I couldn't go wrong. We are so impressed with the smart oven, I actually think it is worth every penny and more. So I thought I'd give this a try. The Amazon price was $99 and the Cuisinart goes for about $50. The Breville immersion blender is far superior to the Cuisinart. For one thing I actually use all of the accessories now. The small chopper is really nice on the counter top because I can put some onion chunks in it and they "chop" perfectly. The Cuisinart says it can do that, but usually I would have pulverized onions, some chopped, and some big clumps, so I never actually used it for that. Now I use it every time. It saves time and effort. The chopper part is bigger than the Cuisinart, so I find I use that all the time to scramble eggs in the morning. The eggs are really fluffy when they are blended this well. I love to mix it up and add spinach to them or peppers/onions. This thing does it all perfectly, effortlessly, and is super easy to clean up. I use the stick for things I want to really blend like ricotta cheese or soup. It is super easy to use, and easy to clean. This also comes with an over sized container for making smoothies. The appliance is substantial and the rubberized grip feels great. It isn't fussy if you don't have the top on perfect. It just works. Overall I am really glad I purchased this product and I can't say enough good things about it. It was definitely worth the added expense as it easily out performs the Cuisinart.

This immersion blender is expensive. It works exceedingly well. It is also tall and therefore requires some thought on where to store it. The blender blade and shaft are too wide to fit into a wide-mouth quart jar requiring me to figure out a new way to blend my morning hot chocolate (I use the wide-mouth quart jar but now use the wire whip to blend it.) The wire whip works well but it has a connecting piece that goes between the handle (the power unit) and the whip making the assembled whip very tall. The whip is dishwasher safe, but the connecting piece is not. The wire whip does go into a wide-mouth quart jar. The included blender jar works well with its own blade built into it. Great for blending cooked vegetables. Overall it works exceedingly well; I'm disappointed in the height and girth with the blending unit attached. It is a big immersion blender. One needs adequate kitchen space to store it and a bit of patience to assemble and disassemble the unit before and after use. Also the included blender jar and an included "jug" for mixing beverages are not microwave safe. This is not stated anywhere in their literature. I called the company before putting mine in the microwave so no damage was done. 3/14/12: I've had this blender now for about 2 months. I've moved it up to 4 stars. If I could give it 4.5 I would. Not 5 because of the expense. This is the first blender I've had that really feels up to whatever task I have for it. Parts of it have been though the DW-er on a daily basis. I put all plastic items on the top rack but do run the DW-er on its heated-water cycle which takes the water to 140 oF. No problem with putting it in the DW-er even at the higher temperatures, when the parts are on the top rack. With the storage issue now solved, and by now I am adept at putting it together and taking it apart, it becomes second nature to use. I'm more and more pleased with my purchase. It is expensive, no question, and I now think it is worth every penny.

I bought this immersion blender because my old faithful had died -- the plastic cogs had melted down after years of use -- and I was looking for something that would be as powerful (maybe more so), that would last as long. And surprisingly, that's really hard to find! I went through a couple immersion blenders before I got to this one. I'm very happy with it -- I recommend it highly. Pros: - powerful, works as advertised - I find the button very easy to use. One reviewer noted that only folks with big hands should use this, but I disagree. I have petite hands, and have found this button very accessible. It's placed in such a way that I can use any finger on it (old faithful only really let me press one way, and my hands used to get quite cramped. This is a big step up) - it feels very, very sturdy. The shaft is chrome, and the body is plastic, but it feels quite solid. - the plug (where it goes into the socket) has a wee hole in it, so you can hang it that way, which is really handy Cons: - it makes the ever so slight high pitched whining sound when it's going, especially at lower speeds. Don't know what's going on there, but it doesn't seem to be any indication of things not working. Neutral: - I'm not super crazy about the shape. It's an oval immersion head instead of a round one, which they say is to reduce the amount of suction. It's true that in some cases the suction is lessened, compared to other immersion blenders I've tried (if I have it on the bottom of a container, blending away, it won't get stuck there). But there definitely is suction when you're swirling it around, blending things. I see this as positive -- if you take away the suction on an immersion blender, then you reduce its efficacy by a lot -- but I'm not quite sure what they were aiming for there. - I haven't tried the whisk or the food processor component -- those are absolutely beside the point for me. I'm in it for the blender. Ways that I have used it: - soups - smoothies (I like them pretty stiff, and this blender is absolutely up to the task) - emulsions - baking projects (in particular, a cinnamon roll recipe that says to blend in the flour) It's worked great for all the foods I've tried. All in all, I'm very happy with this immersion blender.

I had a cuisniart immersion blender before this one, and it did the job for a number of years. The plastic gear interface ended up wearing out, so it was time for a new one. I REALLY was hoping to get one that used metal gears/interface with the attachment, but I wasnt able to find a single one. I went back and forth on buying this one because it didnt have metal gears and was significantly more expensive than replacing the old one I had with the same model. I figured Id never know what I was (or wasn't) missing unless I gave this one a try. Below are more details about my experience so far. When I decided to pull the trigger on this guy, I had a couple of assumptions: 1. It would be more powerful than my old one 2. The additional attachments this one comes with would be mostly useless gimmicks It would be more powerful than my old immersion blender: It is more powerful. And by a lot. It has at least 3x the amount of torque. When I run it, the torque turns my wrist initially - very powerful. It feels like Im operating my 20v drill. Surprising, but this is not what surprised me the most - its also MUCH quieter than my old one. Its probably half as quiet. Other than the price, I dont see any tradeoffs here. The additional attachments are probably gimmicks and just increase the overall price: Boy, was I mistaken on this one. I havent tried the whisk yet, but Im sure it works well. However, I did try the blender/processor thing. Now, I have a blender/processor that is purpose-built soley for this in mind. And Im quite happy with it - its compact, works well, etc. The Breville attachment blows it out of the water. Its not even close and has subsequently made my purpose-built one obsolete. The Breville attachment for this works so much faster, better, more powerful, quieter, etc. (anyone want my old one?! haha). I genuinely never anticipated using this part of the package Breville sent me. I thought it was just extra crap Id never use, but thats not the case at all.

After using a traditional blender to make smoothies for almost a year, I'd had enough! Lugging out the blender, putting all of the pieces together, adding the smoothie ingredients, stopping the blender 4-5 times to stir around bits that had become stuck in the blades... then cleaning up all those pieces... making smoothies was just way more effort than it was worth! While my fiance and I were watching a cooking show one night, we saw the chefs using an immersion blender to make all sorts of stuff. My fiance said, "Hey, you should get one of those for the smoothies." YES! YES I SHOULD! I immediately hit Amazon and started looking at the 50 bajillity immersion blenders available. I simply had no idea where to even start so I searched Google for the best blenders. The one name I saw popping up everywhere was Breville. So I returned to Amazon and searched just for this brand. I eventually decided to go with the Breville BSB510XL Control Grip Immersion Blender and this is why: This one has 15 blending speeds It has a long, 6' power cord It came with lots of goodies- the chopping bowl, the blending cup, a whisk Most pieces are dishwasher safe It has great reviews! After using this immersion blender for the last few months, these are my thoughts: I LOVE THIS THING! Making smoothies is so much easier and faster now. The blades on this bad boy cut through ice and frozen fruits (whole strawberries, chunks of mango, blueberries, chunks of banana) with no problem whatsoever. I was worried it would be messy, but that's not the case at all. Everything stays well contained within the blending jar. Even my fiance likes to make smoothies now (although I think he secretly just likes playing with the blender haha). The chopping bowl is fantastic for making a quick, fresh salsa. Just toss in your tomatoes, half an onion, some jalapeno and seasonings and watch it go. So easy. As for the design of the blender: The handle allows for an easy, comfortable grip. I don't have very big hands, but I have no problem holding this handle. The speeds increase at a nice, smooth rate. It doesn't go from a slow speed to a "break neck, splash everything around the entire kitchen" speed. Just a nice, progressive increase. Most of the pieces are dishwasher safe. I've had no problem with this at all. The blades are well housed and protected... haven't nicked myself on them once so far. The attachments are easy to attach and detach. I haven't tried using this immersion blender for hot soups yet, but since the weather here is finally cooling down, I think I may get my chance soon! Overall, I'm so very happy with this purchase. Breville makes a great blender.
