  • Great Mower Blades
Why did you pick this product vs others?: Name brand, heavy duty blades.

  • These blades are amazing
I have a 2016 JD X390 with a 48" deck that I was originally using side discharge with, but wanted to grind up the clippings a little better and added their mulch control kit mid summer. I struggled for about 2 months with striping and uneven cut with their stock blades. I was resharpening after every 3rd cut and it never seemed to get any better. In the thickest areas of my lawn I even had to cross cut to get rid of the tall spots. I decided to give these a try and was amazed at how even it cuts now on one pass. They came somewhat sharp so I touched them up on the grinder before installing and still resharpen every few cuts but it doesn't even seem like they get dull. One observation with these though is that they drop my rpms on the mower much more than the stock blades and you can definitely tell they're more of a load on the machine but not so much that its harming anything. If the grass is really wet or thick I would say just cut it a little taller and then hit it again a day later at your normal cut height. Another bonus to these blades was the leaf mulching. I have several medium sized maple trees that dropped all of their leaves around the same time which was handy this year. I figured before I tried raking or blowing id try and grind them up. The path behind the mower was almost completely devoid of any sign of leaves, they were ground up so small. I would estimate size of the clippings to be 1/4" or less... pretty incredible for the amount of leaves it was cutting in my opinion. ... show more

  • Good blades, some minor adjustment needed
Solid and perform well, but they did scrape the deck initially. After a quick file down to one edge, all was good. The blades are sharp and provide a clean cut, and the mulching feature works great, leaving the lawn looking neat. Overall, they’re good quality blades, but just be prepared to make some small adjustments if you run into clearance issues. Still a great product, and I’d recommend them! ... show more

  • Stays sharp.
The blade does a good job of mulching the grass as stated and stays sharp.

  • Great blades!
I found these blades many years ago and have been using them ever since. Before, I had three sets of blades for my John Deere lawn tractor that I kept sharpened and rotated them every third mowing. I have 2 acres. I put the Oregon Gators on the deck and mowed three times, dropped the deck to sharpen the blades, and they were still sharp! I went the whole year w/o sharpening them! The ones I have had since then are not that good, but I can still get 5 mowings before I have to sharpen them. Having said that, be aware that my blades are abused: I don't pick up sticks, and these will chew up a 3/4" diameter branch and spit it out! Oregon Gators all the way! ... show more

  • Great replacement for JD mulching blades
I purchased these blades to replace my mulching blades on my 2019 JD S240 48" three blade mower with a Accel Deep Mower Deck and factory mower deck mulching kit and blades. I found that this combination did not work very well leaving stripes of uncut grass where the front tire tracks were. The JD blades appears not have enough air foil in the blades to suck up the flatten grass in my lawn from the front wheels to cut it very well, or not at all. I purchased the Gator blades, removed all the factory mulching equipment and blades from the mower deck, installed the Gator blades and solved the problem. I will point out that if you are cutting grass that is more that an inch taller than your blade settings you may have an abundance of clippings coming from the chute. Other than that, these blades on my mower cut very well with clippings discharged into the grass and not noticeable. ... show more

  • Best blades ever
I use these blades on a JD Z-525 with a mulch kit. Without a doubt, the best blades I have ever used. If you like to mulch leaves in the fall you won’t be disappointed with how these blades perform… leaves simply just disappear, even thick piles of leaves directly under the canopy. Sharpening is a breeze due to the long flat cutting edge as compared to some designs where the cutting edge follows a curve. With two sets if blades I always have one set sharpened and ready to go so the swap-out only takes about 10 minutes. ... show more

  • Not A Direct Replacement
I might update review this after I get the blades on the yard this spring. These blades are listed as replacements for the John Deere mower part I have now; however, I had to cut out a large section of the mulching deck as shown in the photos in order to get the blades to turn without interference. I normally re-sharpen my existing blade sets to a fine edge and balance every season. I notice these Oregon blades have a thick black coating and the blade edge seems to be a dull bead of this coating, so I am suspicious of how these will provide a clean cut on my lawn. ... show more
