  • Best projector for its price range! But you must set the picture up right..settings below
Style: UHD50X (3400 Lumens)
Hi - i have tried them all! from $80 to 1500 projectors including a couple of Optomas and Benq. UHD50x is the one I am keeping! Make sure to use a quality projector screen! The effect is simply amazing. To maximize the quality of your pic - use the settings below as it really makes a difference (thanks to a poster/PSINERD on reddit where i got it from) A couple of quick things - it is NOT 240HZ unless you connect to a PC and you wont even get 4k@120HZ with a standard connection like firestick or chromecast. Beyond that it works really well - and super fun to watch movies in UHD! -------------------- Main Menu Display Mode: HDR should be selected Wall color: Off (you are using a proper screen, no?) Enhanced gaming: off Aspect ratio: auto Edge mask, Digital zoom, keystone, Image shift all should ideally be off or zero for the best image quality. Image Settings Sub-menu Brightness: 0 Contrast: 50 Sharpness: 15 Color: 8 Tint: 0 Gamma: Graphics Ultra detail: off Dynamic black: off (causes annoying brightness changes) Dynamic Range Sub-sub-menu HDR/HLG: auto HDR Picture Mode: Standard or detail (to taste--may need to play with this one a bit, but I find that bright washes out the highlights) Color Settings Sub-sub menu Brilliant Color: 5 Color temperature: D75 (or to taste. D65 is tOo yellow/orange for me and D93 is too blue.) Color gamut: HDTV CMS: all defaults, RGB Gain/bias: all defaults Color space: auto ... show more

  • Getting the full picture is great... getting half the picture is not.
Style: UHD50 (2400 Lumens)
The projector is great when it works. I upgraded from a BenQ 720p short throw and can happily see the difference when watching the same movies. It also does a great job despite having a large amount of light in the room. It's better of course when you can eliminate other room lighting, but for those of you with difficulties doing so, this projector is a good option (if not for the technical concerns outlined below). Comparing it against my previous short throw, the picture is considerably smaller. Using the same throw distance (roughly 10'), I lose about 30" of screen diagonally. The resulting throw is about 108". There is also a fairly large shadow that surrounds the screen, but I understand this is due to the chipset that is used in the projector and is common for others in the same price range. Overall, I would highly recommend going 4k when choosing your next project. The reason I'm giving this only 1 star is due to the limited amount of time I've been able to enjoy the projector. After mounting it, getting the picture dialed in, and watching a few movies from my Xbox, I noticed that it is frequently needing to change the resolution between apps. While this is mildly annoying since it will blank out the picture for about 5 seconds, the projector I have is not particularly good at changing the resolution. As time goes by, changing resolution more often than not results in losing the left half of the picture (see attached photo). I noticed it happen the first time about 2 weeks after mounting it, and now that a month has gone by, I'm seeing it multiple times a day. I currently have a ticket open through Optoma and hope to get a handle on why the picture is dropping out. This is easily a 5-star projector if not for the technical issues that I hope are unique to mine. ... show more

  • What an upgrade from my trusty 1080p Epson
Style: UHD55 (Latest Model, 3600 Lumens)
After 8-9 years (!) with an Epson 6500UB (and 3ish lamps) I hungered for a boost in resolution. I was concerned that I'd lose the 'ultrablack' from the UB moniker but those fears have been completely abated. This is maybe the 7th projector I've owned over the years and the detail/picture quality/contrast are all fabulous. I have a 128" wall that I project onto (I've had a half dozen screens over the year, super happy with my custom-painted light gray flat wall) and, while not everything is visibly 4k, the things that are really pop and look more 3d (ie. better depth, really a function of contrast and detail). Rings of Power on amazon is a great example of what this projector can do - it's a breathtaking experience. There are two weaknesses, neither are connected to picture quality. First, the remote is terrible. Range is bad, it's unresponsive, it's the worst projector remove I've ever used, by some margin. Second, I need that stupid remote more than I ought to because the projector tries to pull up it's own 'smart tv' menu and 'creative cast' when it's firing up, necessitating me to change inputs back to HDMI 2 (the only input I ever use) way more often than I'd like to. Once I'm up and running, no complaints, but it's both a terrible UI and a terrible remote. Overall, beyond happy. I watch in Eco mode (not Eco+ as the auto-iris brightness adjustments are distracting for me) even on sunny mornings when the room is lit more than I'd like, and it's still plenty bright. ... show more
