This was the fourth time that I purchased the chocolate malt Gold Standard protein powder, and I could not be more satisfied. The ideal user for this product in my mind is someone who wishes to take control of their protein intake, whether it be for nutritional purposes or to achieve maximum benefits after a demanding lift in the gym. I have decided to rate this protein powder based off three criteria: flavor, nutritional content per scoop, and blend-ability. FLAVOR When buying any type of protein supplement the main thing people tend to criticize is the flavor. After tasting this chocolate malt protein powder, I can honestly say it is the best tasting protein supplement I have ever consumed. The taste is comparable to the smooth, velvety, sweet chocolate malt you got as a child at your local ice cream shop. If you really want to take the flavor and calories to the next level, try enhancing your protein shake. Take one scoop of this protein powder, one ripe banana, one cup of milk, a hefty scoop of peanut butter, and 5-10 ice cubs, then blend for one minute. NUTRITIONAL CONTENT PER SCOOP The most important part of a protein supplement is how much protein you are ingesting per serving. This is one reason why I like the Gold Standard brand because they have achieved a high level of efficacy by packing 24 grams of protein into one scoop. The 5-lb. tub contains 73 scoops of protein which last me (an intermediate/advanced lifter) about one month, as I take one shake between each main meal throughout the day, and one after my night workout. BLEND-ABILITY Blend-ability is how well the protein can mix with various liquids and create a homogenous, or even mixture. I have found this can be an issue with some protein powders, but not with Gold Standard protein powder. I have mixed this protein powder with a variety of liquids such as water, milk, and even beer. It has never failed to mix thoroughly or leave a chunky solution as the final product, which to most consumers is ideal. SUMMARY Overall, I would give the Gold Standard 100% whey protein powder 5 out of 5 stars. It has great flavor, optimal nutrition content, and great blend-ability. If you have been disappointed with protein powder in the past, give up on the “just okay stuff” and try something that won’t disappoint your needs, for me that is Gold Standard protein.

I’m not an athlete. I’m exercising more and plagued with bad muscle aches and cramps that didn’t ever seem to get better. I’ve been like this my entire life, including my athletic teen years. I was always extremely sore after any workout. Anyway, after logging my food for awhile I realized I have low daily protein intake, around 20-35g/day, and that apparently can cause the soreness and cramps I described. So I gave this a shot after exercising and noticed that I don’t feel the same amount of soreness. My muscles still feel tired but not nearly the same. Could be a coincidence, but I’m sold. The mix tastes good. I got the chocolate malt flavor. I had it with milk the first couple of times (no cold drinking water), and could barely tolerate it. I had it with cold water today and think it tastes much better. Update: still experiencing the same benefits re muscle soreness. I spent the last two days pulling an ungodly amount of weeds in my yard, then ran 3.5 miles both days too. I had very slight soreness in my back that was completely gone after one day, and some mild soreness in my legs that’s barely noticeable. Still convinced it’s the protein powder. FLAVOR UPDATE: I got the strawberry today and prefer it to the chocolate malt. It tastes like strawberry cake batter. Update 2: added strength training. Still not feeling much next-day soreness, and yesterday I really pushed myself so that I was shaking near the end. I thought those muscles would be horribly sore for sure today but there’s barely any soreness. It’s almost time to get a new container of this and I’ll do a flavor update then. (Probably) final update: I got cookies and cream next and that flavor tastes the best imo. Delicious and not too sweet. However, that flavor had different ingredients and it made my stomach so sick. I ended up throwing it out and got mocha flavor because it had less ingredients. It tastes ok, easily the most bland of the flavors I’ve reviewed. But honestly I can’t stomach it anymore. Just thinking about any of the flavors makes my stomach feel sick. Effectiveness-wise: my husband and I spent a day kayaking (we were out on the water about 7 hours). I drank two scoops of this when we got home and felt NO soreness the next day, whereas my husband felt quite sore. Still sold on protein powder. I also started drinking a berry flavor green powder and decided to mix it with plain whey protein powder (bulk supplements). I plan to go this route for the foreseeable future. Best wishes all.

I've tried several of these. The consistency and ability to mix have always been very good. Here's a breakdown by flavor (I'll be adding more as I try them): - Banana Cream 2lbs (4 stars): Very good. Tastes like banana Laffy Taffy, but less sugary. - Birthday Cake 2lbs (2 star): Not TOTALLY disgusting, but probably the worst flavor I've tried. It has little, colored (sugar?) lumps that detract from the already lacking flavor. Never buying this flavor again. - Blueberry Cheesecake (3.5 star): Pretty good, but nothing special (unless you really like blueberries) - Cake Donut 2lbs (3 star): Doesn't taste bad, but flavor is bland/not rich. Even when using less water in order to thicken it, flavor is still lacking. - Chocolate Hazelnut 2lbs (4 star): Tastes like chocolate milk! Gotta add some extra water tho. - Chocolate Malt 2lbs (4 star): Tastes good, would probably give it 5 stars if I didn't dislike malt. - Chocolate Mint 2lbs (4 stars): Quite good. A bit too chocolaty for me. - Cookies and Cream 2lbs (5 stars): This tastes VERY good. It's like an actual shake (when using just water). Will definitely buy again, and probably in 5-lbs - Delicious Strawberry 2lbs (1 star): Says "Delicious" as part of the flavor - it's not. Tastes like strawberry medicine. - Key Lime Pie 1.8lbs (2 stars): Doesn't taste like Key Lime Pie at all (there's a hint of lime, but no hint of pie). Not terrible, but far from good. - Vanilla Ice Cream 1lbs (5 stars): Very good. Simple, consistency close to an actual milk shake even when using water.

The Optimum Nutrition Chocolate Malt is the only protein powder that I will always go out of my way to get. I’ve tried the strawberries & cream, cookies & cream, both of the vanilla flavors (which smell like funky eggs), hazelnut, double chocolate, and I have to say that Chocolate Malt is the least intrusive flavor out of all of them. The other chocolate flavors are just too rich for my taste and don’t even really taste like real chocolate sometimes. Chocolate Malt is the lightest and most accurate chocolate flavor that I’ve ever had in a protein powder. If you’re into milk chocolate more than dark chocolate, I highly recommend giving it a try. It’s the only one I’ve gone with for 1 year and don’t see myself stopping soon. My recipe: Blend ice, 1 banana, almond milk, peanut butter, and the protein powder until you have an ice cream milkshake consistency (more ice helps with this). This has been my breakfast for almost 2 years and chocolate malt helps make it easy and I’m somehow not sick of it.

This is my favorite flavor. I mix it with almond milk and a single serving of coconut or cherry flavored yogurt. It dissolves well. It is never gritty or clumpy. It keeps me full for about three hours and has never given me any G.I. issues. I’m pleased with the quality optimum nutrition provides in their whey protein and I will continue ordering. I only wish there were smaller sample sizes to try before investing $85 in a drum of protein
