Unit delivered with oil all over the outside housing. Set up unit per the instructions and the fan runs but no water drips into the pan. Put the hose on it to discharge into a bucket, still no water, meaning the condenser is not working most likely. After running the unit for several days, oil is leaking onto the floor from the unit. It’s an inexpensive dehumidifier for a reason, it’s poorly designed and doesn’t work. It isn’t designed to be shipped if the unit looks good but the interior parts are cheaply installed and oil leaks from inside the dehumidifier. In short, it’s junk!

We move a lot for work so need small appliances that are convenient for frequent moves. This dehumidifier is smaller than the big, boxy units you find at traditional brick-and-mortar stores AND it's not a "theremoelectric" model that isn't designed for most of the continental US. We went through more than a dozen "quiet, thermoelectric technology" dehumidifiers that just don't work for most US climates. This OLIXIS unit, however, carries its own problem. It's a "refrigerant dehumidifier." This means it exhausts COLD AIR! But it's also not very effective at high temperatures with high humidity levels--exactly the conditions of most of the continental US in the summer. So in the winter, this dehumidifier spits out cold air that makes living spaces like living rooms or bedrooms LESS COMFORTABLE and requires wasting extra energy heating such spaces more. And in the summer, the cooling effect of this refrigerant dehumidifier isn't strong enough to replace air conditioning--and actually works less efficiently at the higher temperatures and humidity levels. So if you're like our family and just want to decrease humidity in the winter while minimally maintaining air temperature or even better warming the cold indoor winter air, a "desiccant dehumidifier" is needed. Why isn't that information freely available in these dehumidifier products' ads? Come on, most of the US is humid and cold in the winter so we need dehumidifiers that dry while heating air, not cooling it. One more point. Today we did a small load of hand-washed clothes and hung them up (two T-shirts, a pair of socks, and a linen dish towel) in an unheated spare room (around 50-degrees-Fahrenheit) with this refrigerant dehumidifier in the room running full-time. The ambient humidity got down to about 60% in 8-hours but all the clothes are still very wet and cold. And that room is now the most uncomfortable in our home--dampish AND bone-chillingly cold. In the summer, our whole-home A/C unit dries clothes in that room in a couple of hours. And old-style "desiccant dehumidifiers" that pump out hot air, the style we'd bought from big box stores locally in the past, dry far more clothes in a dedicated wash room in MINUTES to a few hours. So, sadly, we have no use for this cold-air-but-not-suitable-as-an-AC-replacement dehumidifier. If it also worked as a portable A/C unit, we'd save it to use during the summer--but it can't do that. Unfortunately, we'll have to return this unit. The one good thing we can say about the unit (hence two stars instead of one star) is that it's compact and fits neatly and inconspicuously just about anywhere.
