  • Really great product for this price range!!!
Style: Ma-45dxt (430yds, 25lb)
I love Okuma products in general but this kind reel for this amount of money is something that you can't find offering from other manufactures. it comes with manual , parts list, well boxed. In local store i was watching similar reel from Penn and it costs almost double of this price but i could not make any important difference , it also have plastic case and almost same line counter. Long story short for under 50$ you get good product , just use it accordingly for what is made for (small and medium catches). ... show more

  • Liked it more than I disliked it
Purchased two for 9’ Rods used on Lake Erie for Spring Walleye Line counter - set at factory for 12lb Test. I spooled 275’ish yards of 10lb Mono then measured in the yard with a 100 foot tape. The count was too close to notice any difference in accuracy, so I never had to adjust line on reel. Reeling in fish - With a 5.1:1 ratio, one full turn is 23” of line brought in. You can easily surf a fish above the water if not mindful! That’s not helpful with large Walleye who need to have their energies worn down. Drag - it works really well. Others have noted it’s a fine line between low and fully off. I agree and it’s an area for the manuf to work on/improve. It was also noted it’s clumsy when adjusting while reeling in…I Agree. Performance while fishing - I used it 8 hours a day for six days straight. It was dependable and had no problems whatsoever! I’d recommend it, but would caveat it only has a few bearings and the housing is plastics. So I cant speak to longevity through repeated use. For what it’s worth - while on the water, I noticed every charter boat used reels that had non-plastic housing reels. Tight Lines! ... show more

  • It's A TROLLING Reel -- Not A Casting Reel
Style: Ma-15dxt-t (290yds, 12lb)
High Quality and Value for the money. Be advised that It's A TROLLING REEL and Not A Casting Reel --- therefore there's not a thumb release like on a baitcaster. It Works GREAT for Crappie Fishing too.

  • Good for the price
Style: Ma-15dxt-t (290yds, 12lb)
It's a decent budget reel. The line counter is accurate if you fill the spool properly. The drag is decent. The spool tensioner doesn't seem to work at all but, it's ok the way it is. Winding in line is kinda stiff but not bad. I will use this for a while and see what happens. I'll probably end up spending more money for better quality in the future. ... show more

Clicker fell out of 1 the first use! Reel still works minus a clicker.

  • OK for the money but not what they used to be
Style: Ma-20dxt (290yds, 12lb)
I have been using these reels as an affordable option on lake trolling setups for salmon and trout fishing for going on two decades. Bought these new ones to add a few more to my arsenal since I have now have a bigger boat. Overall I am satisfied but certainly not wowed. The older Magda Pro 20’s I have seem to be of better construction and operate more consistently. The aesthetics of the current model is more stylish and the handle fits better in my hand, but this is only better than the prior design if you consider more plastic to be an improvement. Operation has been compromised by what appear to be changes made to reduce manufacturing costs. The free spool lever jams frequently requiring the retrieve handle to be moved to reposition the spool to permit it to be engaged, which is a wicked PITA when letting out line. Also the drag adjustment is tight, even when adjusted all the way out there is considerable drag pressure on the spool such that it can’t be set to allow a fish to easily take line after a strike, and the two new reels don’t work the same in this regard, both are tight but one is worse than the other. Has me considering replacing them with something else but any reasonable alternative would cost two to three times more money, so I rate this good value for the $$$ but far from spectacular. Functional, barely, but that’s about it. ... show more
