  • Good starter kit for children/beginners
Color: Black Size: Learn to Play kit
Got this for my niece to learn the Ukulele. The instrument is made of plastic, not wood, so sound quality is compromised. But for children the plastic uke is going to hold up better to some abuse. Overall, it’s a good product for the beginner. Later on, a wooden Ukulele with better tone can be purchased for about $100. The only reason I gave this four stars instead of five is the cost of the “free” app used to learn songs. The app is free for 7 days and then costs $52 for one year or a dollar a week. So, the total cost of this product is actually $100 for a year (instrument plus the app). I think it’s worth the money and recommend the product. Just wanted everyone to know what the full cost is. ... show more

  • Great travel uke!
Color: Seafoam Green Size: Ukulele
I use this as a "beater" uke. It stays in my car or gets strapped onto my backpack. It's there for impulse playing. It can take bumps and knocks and it can get hot or dry without me worrying about cracking. Action is higher than I'd like. It helps that the strings are easy to fret but still, the action is awful high. Due to the method of construction it also looks particularly hard to adjust, especially at the nut with the 0 fret. It sounds... well plasticky. Which is fine. I won't deduct points off of that because it's a plastic sub-50 dollar uke and you get what you pay for. Volume is good. Tone is kind of jangly to my admittedly untrained ears and some days, especially hot days, the tone sounds pretty crummy even if my tuner says everything is in tune. This goes away after about 10 minutes of playing, so I wonder if it's the Aquila strings that are responsible for the odd tone. Tuners are stiff and cheap but they hold tune pretty well. I find I have to touch the tuning up every couple days but it's never very far out of tune. It will absolutely keep tune through a session. Weirdly enough though it took FOREVER for the strings to stretch and hold tune. Two weeks of playing daily for an hour or more a day. The E string especially stretched for what felt like forever. Since this is my first Soprano uke, I wonder if that's because the strings just generally seem to be less taunt than on my concert uke. Intonation is fine down the neck, as it should be for an injection molded neck. Get the mold right and you're done. The silver paint thing on the frets seems to have been fixed and I haven't seen any wear like people were originally complaining about. Frankly I don't give a damn but it bothered some people so it might be nice to hear that's fixed. Is it worth it? Absolutely. It's not a high end uke. The action is high, and it sounds like a plastic toy. But it holds tune, can take rougher treatment than your nice ukes, and plays pretty well. Much like the adage that the best camera is the one you have on you, the best uke is the one you can play and have at hand when you want to play. I keep my nicer uke at home but for noodling in the real world on impulse, this one fulfills almost every expectation I have. If you want a beginning uke, I might suggest actually looking at other alternatives. This one is nice for what it is, but I don't know if it's a good introduction to ukuleles. ... show more

  • IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP IN TUNE
Color: Black Size: Learn to Play kit
I never write Amazon reviews, but felt it was important to share this for any real musicians considering buying this ukulele. DON'T! If you want to buy it as an ornamental piece then go for it, but if you actually want to play it, you will be extremely frustrated. It is impossible to keep it in tune. If you play it for even 30 seconds, it goes out of tune again. It is extremely cheaply made (hence the price). The only reason I bought it was because I saw that it was available on other music sites like Sweetwater, but I don' know why, because this cannot really be considered to be a musical instrument. I bought a miniature toy guitar for my Godson that stays in tune better than this. I'm very disappointed because I was really looking forward to being able to play. Steer clear! ... show more

  • Holds tune fine! Strings just need time to stretch!
Color: Black Size: Learn to Play kit
I was concerned by some of the reviews when buying this uke but I just couldn't resist the price. I am beyond thrilled by the quality and sound of this instrument. This is no "toy"!! The strings it comes with are high quality and they take time to stretch just like any others. That's where some of these reviews are coming from when they say it won't stay in tune. They are obviously new to ukuleles and don't understand that it happens with new string no matter how expensive the instrument is. It just takes a day or so of tuning, playing it, and re-tuning regularly. I'm in day three with this uke and it holds its tune great now. I've never played or even heard a plastic ukulele being played before but the sound on this one is shockingly rich. The plastic is thick and high quality and the arrows painted on to help with learning chords are tasteful and don't detract at all from the beauty of this uke. I so rarely get pleasantly surprised on a "cheap" purchase but this one knocks it out of the park. ... show more
