  • Works great when you configure it correctly.
Style: Ender 3 Series
The media could not be loaded. So I’ve waited to review this product until I had a good amount of time to test and determine its reliability and performance. I’ve had it installed and running for a week now and run through about 6-8 prints. The Sprite SE kit is actually pretty good for a budget inspired upgrade. Remember this is NOT the Sprite PRO. Note: This was installed and running on an Ender 3 V2. I wanted to upgrade to a direct drive extruder because I wanted to print more TPU 95A. As you know pushing TPU through a Bowden tube is like pushing wet spaghetti in a straight line. Even though I have had some success with TPU in a Bowden tube before, it caused some issues I’d really like to avoid in the future, hence the upgrade to direct drive. Installation: The instructions, as limited as they are, give sufficient enough information to be able to install the Sprite SE within 30 minutes or so (may take longer if you are not very experienced with the machine). I did run into a small hiccup while installing where the bottom roller on the extruder frame got lop-sided and became loose and wiggly causing all sorts of problems off the get go. I went through the set up again and finally discovered that somehow, the offset spacer on the bottom roller was opposite of what it should be. After fixing the offset spacer, by rotating into its correct upright position, the roller frame finally sat snug and tight against the X-Axis rail. I continued the installation steps and got to the part where you have to “write and save” your own G-Code to recalibrate the firmware extrusion E-Steps. Default is 93 in the Extrusion e-step settings. The change needs to be made to Esteps/mm value to 424.9. **Newbies don’t get scared at this point! Just open a blank notepad on Windows or Mac and copy/type in the text exactly as they have it on the instructions. Then you insert your micro SD card into your printer and run the g-code as if you were going to print that file. Nothing happens, it just configures the esteps and temporary saves it in the firmware. Another issue I ran into was that the Ender 3 V2 firmware DOES NOT save the new estep setting if you turn off or disconnect power. You will need to run that file each time you start up the machine. That’s when I learned that if you flash the firmware and install Jyers firmware you can run that estep reconfig once and it saves it indefinitely. Nice, plus installing Jyers is easy and really awesome, wish I would have done that a year ago. It has great features that really should be in the default Creality firmware. Now after all that, the direct drive works great and does what I wanted it to do in the first place. It runs all sorts of filament types and makes changing filaments easy and fast. I have been using it to do color changes mid print as an alternative to buying a multi-color printer (for now). Filament color changing is easy enough to do and setup in Cura Slicer via change filament or pause at height script. I hope this long winded review helps some of you looking to upgrade. I wanted it to sound simple enough and intuitive, that new users wouldn’t be afraid to go for it. It was a minor pain to get running perfectly but after some time and tuning, it’s working great now. I do recommend this Sprite Extruder SE kit if you’re looking for a modest and budget friendly upgrade. Happy printing folks. ... show more

  • Great upgrade
Style: Ender 3 Series
This direct drive extruder is the best thing i've bought for my ender 3. i bought it because i had some clogging issues and there hasnt been any problems since. There were two spacers that didnt quite fit the size screws that were in my hotend, i installed this without the spacers and it still works as normal, no grinding, no clogging, very smooth printing i highly recommend paying the extra few dollars and getting the sprite extruder, you will have to up your e steps a lot (mine are at around 412) ... show more

  • One of the most important upgrades
Style: Ender 3 Series
Direct drive is the first upgrade I make any time I'm working with an Ender 3. It allows for less stringing because you don't need as much retraction, and it also allows you to print with flexible filaments like TPU. Previously I had just gotten a kit that reused my old parts on a new bracket, so this was nice to have the whole package. The gear setup seems more reliable than my old setup, which means less slipping or grinding, and less trouble with flexible filaments getting caught. Overall I'm happy with the upgrade ... show more

  • Works acceptably on CR10s
Style: Ender 3 Series
I decided to try this kit with my CR10s because of the similarity with the ender 3 and the nearly footnote in the title that listed compatibility with the CR10. It definitely isn't optimized for a CR10s though and took some tinkering to get it to work at an acceptable level. Setup was not easy and I spent a lot of time getting back to a usable state. First, you do have to remove nearly the entire hot end and if you haven't had experience adjusting your carriage tension then this will be a learning experiencing for you, as it was with me. Upon completion of removing the top wheels to add the mounting plate and replacing the spacers, I could not get the correct tension back on the carriage, it would not get even close to tight. Even after reading up on how the concentric nut is suppose to adjust the tension that I could not get it even close to tight. I loosened and tightened screws nearly a dozen times to no avail. Finally I decided to put the original spacers back on and alas I got some pretty decent tension again. It still isn't as tight as it was before I began but it was tight enough to work. I also had some mods for an ezabl mount and the petsfang fan mount and that required some guess work as to what would work around the direct drive but I was able to find a printable solution. After it was finally together again I adjusted the firmware setting for the e steps as instructed and changed the retraction settings in my slicer and then realized I needed to do something about the cables because there was nothing included and without the bowden tube, the wires just dangled. I used some twist ties to get it to be slightly supported but am still looking for a better solution. After all of that I was finally up and printing again. Half a dozen prints later it has worked well enough that I have not been inclined to remove it, however I don't really see any improvement either. I had tpu working with the bowden tube so not even a gain there. It is actually a really low price for what you get though so if you are feeling adventurous and want to try something new, go for it - based off of my experience it won't be any worst. ... show more

  • A worthy upgrade
Style: Ender 3 Series
I installed this on my Ender 3 pro with no issues. To be honest, it looks and performs much better than it did before. It took about 25 minutes to get installed and it was straightforward to get everything working. For the price, I think this is a worthy upgrade for any printers that don’t already have direct drive extrusion and I highly recommend it! ... show more

  • Short lived
Style: Ender 3 Series
I was hoping that these would work. I bought 3 of these units and within 3 weeks 2 of the 3 fail to extrude and the other one would not calibrate properly. NOT WORTH IT.
