  • High quality office chair that lacks only one feature
Size: High Back Color: Coal Freeflex Fabric
I bought one of these for work in September 2022. It covered all the bases from US-based to quality to features. The only downside is that I misunderstood the seat tilt functionality. When you tilt the seat, the back also tilts as they are cojoined. I was accustomed to my office chair at home having a seat and back that are independent of one another. The only other issue I had was the instructions for adjusting the chair settings. They are not easy to follow or make sense of, which led to a support call and even a replacement mechanism until I realized I was just not understanding the instructions. I think they pay a hungry English student from a local community college to do a quality job on the instructions. All said, this chair is good enough for me that I bought a second one of these in April 2023 to finally replace my home office chair. No more back and neck pain! Primary things I like about the chair: 1. Seat and back tilt (though cojoined by the mechanism, as described above). This ensures I can get support under my thighs. 2. Arm rests raise and lower. This ensures I can keep my elbows at the right 90-degree angle to the keyboard etc. 3. Wheels are large and strong which makes it easy to roll the chair around while I'm sitting in it. ... show more

  • This chair does not suck
Size: High Back Color: Coal Freeflex Fabric
We bought one of these when I first started WFH. I hate chair shopping, and I was dreading the process of researching the oh-so exciting office chair. Long story short, I landed on this one, and now several months later when the wife started WFH, we just bought the same exact one for her, because she kept stealing mine. Pros: Has all of the adjustments you're looking for, yes, even that spring-loaded (full butt-and-back) adjustable-tension recline when you want to just kick back like you own the place. Built sturdy. Structural joints are thick steel, not sheetmetal. The base (which is often complained about on other chairs) is still plastic, but molded thick enough that I don't see it breaking under my 185# abuse. Screws are pre-dressed with thread locking compound. Nice touch. Cons: The stupid forward release lever, you know, the one that no one ever uses that dumps you forward out of your chair? Yeah, it's right up front, and disengages when your calf hits it as you pull yourself forward. Not a huge con, but annoying, and can make a racket when you do the right combination of rock forward and scoot up toward your desk. Maybe I'm just a retread that can't seem to sit in a chair properly. I'll probably drill it and drive a screw through it to lock it in place. Again, I still bought a second chair knowing this, so take this particular con with a grain of salt. Assembly: Exploded diagram only, no actual instructions. No big deal, it's a chair for crying out loud. Comes with the required hex-key wrench, but does not come with the needed philips screwdriver. Not a complaint, just stating what's in the box. Do yourself a favor, and throw away the allen wrench, and use a T-handle or, better yet, a cordless impact driver with the right size allen bit. It's only ten allen head screws, but they are fine-thread and you'll be annoyed when the included wrench that's too-short hits the chair mechanicals and you have to unplug it every half-turn. I have this impact driver, and it's been my go-to for almost everything: http://amzn.com/B01M0EX5PW (You'll need a battery too). Yeah, yeah, I know, it's not a DeWalt, fine, go buy one of those. We're talking about a chair right now. If you're starting from zero in the DIY space, and want to assemble your chair without putting your coffee down, here's a hex driver kit to go with that impact driver (don't forget a battery) that's in your cart: amzn.com/B082QMG8GY Final thought on assembly: The plate that screws into the seat-back... there's a 50/50 chance you're going to put that in backwards. If you bought that impact driver and bits (and a battery), you really won't even care. If you insist on struggling through with the included hex key tool, make sure the welded nut on the plate is pointing away from you if you're holding the seat back like you're behind the person sitting in the chair. I hope that made sense. Packaging: Looking at it, nothing to write home about, but when the carrier threw it down from the top warehouse rack, and drop-kicked the box into the truck, the chair parts all survived without any damage. Seriously, I can't believe the chair made it without a scratch, looking at the abuse the carton took. But, hey, I'm reviewing the chair here, not the shipping company, right? I will say... thumbs up on using all cardboard packing that I can re-purpose in the garden or landscape, and not a huge chunk of styrofoam that would suck up an entire 40-gallon garbage bag! Overall, it's a good chair. So good, I bought another one after several months of using the first one. ... show more

  • Very good chair, but know what to expect
Size: High Back Color: Coal Freeflex Fabric
Very good chair for the money. But it's not perfect. Overall I'm satisfied. I thought a few notes might help others. 1) It doesn't have a good spring tilt system. The back tilt is super loose and does not tighten. You find your back tilt position, then lock it with a side lever. Same for the base tilt. Base tilt does have a spring tension adjustment and supposedly has a quick release stick for leaning forward. I really don't know what it's all supposed to be good for. But I'm fine with it locked into a comfortable position. I don't actually want a chair that bounces back in forth. I really dislike sitting in a chair that immediately starts tilting back. So for me this limited function is perfectly fine. I just leave it locked. 2) The rest of the chair is pretty nice. Yes the arm rests rattle a bit. But they are comfortable under my elbows and adjust to a perfect height. I'm definitely a fan of the seat cushion and the mesh back seems to breath nicely in the warm weather. Adjustments are great once expectations are correct, see #1 above. 3) They've added a note to the assembly instructions about releasing the seat cushion depth setting to access the final screw hole, but it still might be confusing. Lay the cushion down on the seat side. Put the mechanism on top. Start setting screws. If you get to one that you can't reach, pull out the horizontal rod with a round handle and move the mechanism to expose the screw hole. Since you've already set some screws, this should be easy. 4) Another criticism is the use of 3 different fastener types. Completely unnecessary, but I'm sure makes things cheaper. Get yourself a 10mm socket and handle (not a ratchet, a handle). Then you can drive the screws much easier. The allen wrench provided is no good for the seat mechanism, but can be used for screws on the seat back. My #1 recommendation to the manufacturer if they want to improve the product is they should get rid of the allen wrench and fasteners. Provide a 10mm socket wrench. The seat back screws can have the same 10mm head as the mechanism screws. 5) I felt the assembly instructions were a little out of order. They tell you to mount the armrests with the seat still on the floor. Instead, just put the cushion + mechanism assembly onto the piston. Then mount the arms. You'll have to look underneath maybe to get the arm bolts and washers set in correctly (careful not to cross thread!), but it's still much easier than trying to attach the arms on the floor. 6) I similarly felt the seat back instructions were miss-ordered. Lay the seat back on the floor, back facing up. Connect the steel plate to the seat back with 4 screws (silly allen heads), then insert the other end of the plate into the back of the seat mechanism. Much easier to set the 4 seat back screws this way. There's only 1 big screw to then attach it to the mechanism. Anyone can assemble this chair, but you do have to be willing to think it through yourself a little. The assembly instructions are imperfect. So is the packaging. I could probably pick at some other things. But at under $200, why? It's a pretty good chair. ... show more
