Town-building specs – There are different upper limits to the number of buildings that can be built depending on the processing capabilities of each console. However, the game contents, such as the story and items that can be obtained, are the same. - Nintendo Switch 2 Version - The Switch 2 versions (both the physical and digital versions) can only be played on Nintendo Switch™ 2. - Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrade not available - It is not possible to upgrade from the Switch version to the Switch 2 version once purchased. For other fans of the original game it does not have the option of different routes the way they did previously, you play as one character the whole time which is fine you have access to all the classes, I really liked it, after the main three storylines theres still more to do it did throw me off a bit at first and I do recommend some guides oh and they added the ability to develop your town and I really like that ... show more

Octopath Traveler 0 was a mobile gacha game called Champions of the Continent that they reimagined into a full-fledged RPG on consoles with no gacha to be seen. That comes with both good and bad, but the good outweighs it by a mile. Story- this is a prequel to the 1st game, but that doesn’t really matter. The story is about a generic main character that you create. This character lives in a nice little village and it just so happens he/she is the chosen one. Your village is attacked, and you lose everything. Its now up to you to take down three villains who represent power, wealth, and fame. All while rebuilding your village, you will journey across the continent and experience a dark, but hopeful story, which I am loving right now. Gameplay- Combat is the same as the others, but now you have a party of 8 vs 4. This gives you more flexibility as you can move your front and back line around to play to weaknesses. Your main character can swap classes as you unlock more skills, while the rest of the cast is locked to their classes. This encourages you to swap and try different builds, as there are over 30 characters in this game. Exploration is the same as the old games as well, you have different branching paths that lead to towns, caves, and dungeons. New to the franchise is the town builder. You will build houses, farms, churches and more for people (that you recruit) to live in. These structures and townsfolks do provide resources that will help you in your journey. Visuals/Sound- 2D-HD has to be the best visual style for these kinds of games. Characters, objects, and the environment all look great. Combat has great visual effects that are a little repetitive, but are flashy. The music is mostly recycled from the first two games. Of course, the music is great, and fits the scenes 95% of the time, but sometimes the town music feels out of place. On PS5, this game runs great. The Bad- this game is an asset flip that does not address what was missing from prior games. Namely, there are over 30 characters in this game, and you will not be doing much in terms of character building. Sure, you will get the “press X for conversation” button while in town, but that’s so low effort. I would like my games to have more meaningful interactions, but I will say, the NPC/Main stories are really good. Also, as glossed over earlier, music is recycled, along with visuals. If you have played the first two, then you have seen pretty much 90% of this game’s assets. Conclusion- While the music and designs are recycled, they are great. They take good things and repurpose them for the better. The story is better than the first two games and combat is flexible as ever. The town builder is fun you feel a greater sense of purpose than before. Everything from the past games is improved upon, except for the character development. Ultimately, this is an Octopath/JRPG fans dream come true and I am having a blast so far. ... show more

Octopath Traveler 0 feels like the series getting a nice polish rather than a big reinvention, and honestly, that works. The HD‑2D style looks better than ever on the Switch 2, with sharper details and lighting that makes every town feel cozy. Combat is the same satisfying Break/Boost system fans already love, just smoother thanks to the faster hardware. The eight stories vary in tone, but they’re written with a bit more personality this time, enough to keep you hopping between characters. The music is great (as always), load times are basically gone, and the whole experience feels more connected and easier to sink into. If you want a chill, good‑looking RPG with smart turn‑based battles, this one’s an easy pick. ... show more

I have played every game that square has released on this engine demos included. Every octopath game tried to emulate classical JRPG 16 bit with diorama set pieces and each game had some short coming. The first Octopath game was a refreshing middle ground with weak character interactions I liked it but after several play-throughs the opinions had merit if each character had unique dialogue like Final Fantasy 6 it would have been more fun. The second tries to fuse what the remake of Live a Live had and increase the character interactions but also lengthening the amount of work to understand everything. Triangle Strategy felt like Vandal Hearts more than final fantasy tactics and Dragon Quest 3 with 1&2 increased a lot of the engines assets. The mobile game I avoided and Elliot demo was fun. Then I play the demo of this and now the game and yeah it follows a lot of tropes with a revenge story that will be explained later. But this one takes a new approach you create your character and can make choices that change responses, relationships and story segments but with a town building element. It plays and feels like a final fantasy game but lets me create a character to get invested into. The voice acting and writing are just as good as ever and it fills that need for a classic squaresoft game or enix game fun so far. But it has the flaw of grinding for jobs and little explanation if you didn’t play the previous games the battle mechanics and job system are the only complicated part. As an octopath game it tries like the others to be as deep and poignant as classical JRPG’s and comes close. It still has issues modern gamers will complain about and classical purists but for me it is a flawed gem. I purchased it on switch since it is where I played all of them and unlike the others I don’t have to push myself to play it I am invested in my character so it hooks you. Not a perfect game but a good one if you like JRPG’s of old here is a good example. So I am giving it a 4 out of 5 because if I give it a perfect score I am a bot apparently. It recycles a lot and is better animated but follows a formula they are trying to perfect. The saddest part is this game is more fun than Final Fantasy 16 I would enjoy a final fantasy game made with the octopath engine. Twelve hours in and I feel like I am half way through. I plan to play as a female after my male character play-through so you can get a good 40 plus hours. I am really enjoying it especially the over acting of the villainous characters a nice JRPG from square-enix. Not everyone will like it but I am worth a look play the demo if your not sure but a good game worth getting. After unlocking the town and playing side quests I started running into other octopath characters so yeah this is a good game to start the series on. ... show more
