  • Still not sure? Read this then... + TIP
My wife's 2007 Honda Pilot has over 130K miles on it and the check engine light came on 4 months ago while she was driving on a highway. My wife took it to the shop in panic and they told her that it needs to replace one of the catalytic converters, which will cost $2K including labor. I really didn't want to spend that much money because we won't even get $2K trade in value for that car. The mechanic was nice and honest enough to let me know that I can still drive it indefinitely without any issue so he reset the check engine light for me and I took the car back without replacing the catalytic converter. Now, my only dilemma was what to do if the check engine light comes on again? How would I know if it's the same catalytic converter warning or something new and more serious since my wife's car is old and is reaching the limit. After researching, I learned about the OBD2 scanner for the first time and decided to purchase this one because of its affordable price. Well, it definitely was worth the money because the check engine light came on yesterday and I was able to confirm that it was in fact the same catalytic converter warning then reset the check engine light! WHAT I LIKE: [+] This is by far, one of the least expensive OBD2 scanner and apparently OxGord is a good brand [+] Simple two buttons navigation with easy to follow instructions on LCD screen [+] It read and displayed the code as well as the description of the code for my Honda Pilot [+] It was able to clear the code and the check engine light! (see the TIP) [+] No battery is needed to operate as it's powered by the car once it's plugged in [+] I can check the reason for the check engine light without taking it to the shop and pay hourly rate (save $$) [+] If a new code is read and if I have to take it to the shop, I would at least know if the mechanic is telling the truth or not (potentially not get ripped off for $$$) WHAT I DON'T LIKE: [-] Absolutely nothing! This is so easy and simple that any one who knows how to plug in USB port can use it. In fact, the most difficult part is locating the ODB2 connector port in your car, which has nothing to do with this scanner. I had to get close to the floor to see it just above the accelerator pad in my Honda Pilot but it has a matching groove on one side so there's only one way to plug it in. *** TIP *** You have to plug it in while the car is off then start the scan after the car is on. Please note that while the scan will work even if the engine is on, it won't clear the code and the check engine light while the engine is on. Therefore, it's better to use the scanner while the car is in ON mode (two key turns) WITHOUT running the engine. BOTTOM LINE: 5 out of 5 stars! Highly recommend this as it does everything that it advertises at very affordable price. I hope my review helped you and feel free to leave comments or ask questions. ... show more

  • So easy! It was even easier than Autozon
I was very skeptical about price & if it would even work with my 2006 Chrysler Crossfire, which everyone knows is actually a Mercedes 320SLK. THAT leads to very finicky sensors & readings. I took the Crossfire in for an oil change & to address the check engine light. They returned the car said they couldn't clear the code & it world be $250 diagnostic it. WTF $250 to tell me what's wrong then how much more to fix? NO THANK YOU! THIS gave me a smog reading. Since I put on new fuel pump, fuel filter &replaced the charcoal can. Since theses over zealous Germans love to add sensors on sensors I new the rest of the evac crap was on the front. I wasn't able to $400 for a refurbished BOSHE. I found a cheap, but still had 4+stars, pump for $65 made in China. Super easy to install. Great YouTube video shows you how. All fixed and then started up cleared code with 1 touch then another code asking are you as really sure you want to clear this code hit yes. And gone! Just drove 750miles from Utah to Montana zero check engine light and temp gouge was perfect. So Back To this Reader. It worked so much better then expected. No batteries BTW power comes from your car. Buy a nice Tupperware case for it and it should last a long time? I EASILY GIVE IT 5 ☆☆☆☆☆ ... show more

  • Great for the price
I bought this to diagnose my 01 Lexus IS300. This does not have it's own power source, so it will not turn on until plugged into the OBD2 port. It loads up quickly, and reads quite quickly also. Fairly detailed explanation of codes, instead of just giving the code number and stopping there. I also used it on a 2016 Kia Soul 2.0. The scanner pulled up stored codes that another scanner didn't pull up (used back to back vs mine). Helped me diagnose the cam sensor pickup failure stored code, vs the crank sensor pickup code that was cleared. For the price, it offers a lot. ... show more

  • Exactly what I needed.
I received it and was surprised to find that it came programed with some error codes for a variety of car models. I was expecting a tool that would provide the error code that I would need to look up on the internet.

  • Inexpensive, easy to use, didn't work so I sent it back.
I'll get right to the point - This code reader would not work on my 2005 Subaru Forester. The car is OBD II compatible. I plugged the scanner into the OBD II port which powered on the unit. It said it was attempting to connect to the car, but was unable to (See photos). I followed the instructions in the manual which said to turn the car ignition off for ten seconds, then try again. I tried about 10 times, but nothing worked. I know there is a compatibility issue because I got my codes read at an auto shop just a few weeks ago. I tried the scanner on my other vehicle - a 2012 Toyota Highlander, and it worked. It displayed some information about the vehicle, then said there were no codes present. The dashboard display in the Highlander says an oil change is required (which is not correct) so I was hoping to reset that. I was not able to. I am disappointed in this outcome because the little scanner is so inexpensive, convenient, and easy to use. Amazon says this code reader is compatible with my car, otherwise I would not have purchased it. I will have to try again with a different one. ... show more
