This is real Tung oil, not the finish that is labeled as Tung finish but has virtually no Tung in it. I had heard people complain of the smell, so I have been using mineral oil for water protection on my wood, leaving a greasy top coat. I was making a handle to an Ike stick for a fisherman and decided to finally try this stuff. Let me tell you, it was not strongly scented at all, and by the second day I couldn't really smell much. And after a couple to a few days it's totally dry to the touch. This is now my go to for treating wood. For those who complain about the price, it's like complaining that black walnut would cost more than common softwood boards or plywood. It is very messy to apply, does not smell good and takes a lot for first coat. I suggest you double your purchase so there is enough for a second coat. Overall it works great for something that is kept outside
