Bought these for a backwoods camping event in the White Mountains (Rainbow Family Gathering nationals). There was only a couple distant places to get filtered water and even those were suspicious. So, 2 of us survived a week in the woods drinking, almost exclusively, live water piped in from the small river and filtered with the MS straw filter. We had 0 tummy problems. Using this filter as a straw is awkward and doesn't work very well. We filled a camel back water bag with the live water and attached the filter to the drink tube and hung it all in a tree. Put our water bottles under the dangling filter and let gravity pull the water through. This worked great. Backflushing the filter at least once per day is a bit of a hassle as you have to remove the end caps and switch them around. This also means you will be drinking out of the piece you just switched around to blow the filtered crud out, so you have to take a beat to clean it during reassembly. Overall, I feel this was a good purchase. It filters out much more than the Lifestraw but costs considerably less. From their website, I can see that this company makes all kinds of medical and industrial filters, so I have much more confidence in this product than in any of the other knockoffs. ... show more
