  • Solves a lot of the cooking issues found with these box type air ovens. Plus, is great pizza oven.
I test use for a while and then pass on many of my air fryer ovens. There are any number of issues with them, but some are still very good. Now I'm familiar with Nuwave, a favorite of mine, and also of my nephew. Back in the 90s, living in a rental without a working oven, I used a microwave, and a Nuwave air fryer to cook steaks and other meats, make French fries, onion rings etcetera. I wore it out till the heater elements broke and had to make do with a small toaster oven, but it lasted six years in heavy use. Of course, then the clear plexiglass round oven was just and air oven and had no other special functions. Fast forward to today and they now make a stainless-steel box oven like many similar ovens with some important differences. I initially tested some air fryers, but they were mostly limited to just that, so I started to use the box oven because I could do much more. However, besides the air fryer only limitation of the dedicated air fryer, the box ovens could bake, broil, slow cook, toast, dehydrate and other functions. Some were a bit small on the inside which limited them, I like to make pies and casseroles and the larger units proved more useful. My most recent model was very large, so I bought a square pizza stone to bake pizzas with. Now pizza cookers are a specialty device, and good ones can be expensive. While this worked pretty well for me, the 450-degree limit lacked the heat to mimic a good pizza shop. I could use my full-size gas oven with a stone, but I preferred something smaller that I could move out to the back covered porch like I used my BBQ stuff for parties and such. It's amazing what a 50-degree difference makes. I heated my square stone inside for 20 minutes and used a pizza peel to quickly insert my pizza in a 500-degree pre-heated oven. While it's even possible to control the top and bottom elements of this oven, I just heated it up to 500. Great pizza browned cheese and toppings, crispy crust and no uncooked dough in the center. Another new feature is the faster fan, as I said I've tested dedicated air fryers, and they are fine for fried foods but do little else. I sprayed some light oil on some fresh cut fries and tried them with this and they came out nearly as good as frying in a deep fryer, and equal to other air fryers I've used in the past. This like most box air ovens does many other functions so you can use it to do a lot of your cooking. It's especially useful during holiday feasts. You could put a turkey or ham in your big kitchen oven and use this to bake the casseroles, stuffing, potato dishes etcetera. I'm not sure how long they've made these types of ovens since their past days of round clear plexiglass air ovens. Whatever the case they addressed the problem of higher heat, and a faster air fry. One caution though with the higher air fan speed, be careful to have enough food if you like me use those parchment circles or flat parchment paper. Otherwise, it will lift off and catch fire. Aside from that a great new product from Nuwave. Recommended. ... show more

  • Breville BOV 800XL comparison
My Breville was purchased here on Amazon and the price is currently $100 more than this NuWave Bravo XL. The both fit a 9x13 cake pan. The both fit a 13” pizza screen, although the screen touches the glass in the Nuwave. The Breville is has a smaller footprint by about an inch in each direction. The breville is simpler to use. It has a dial for function, one for temp, and one for time, a button for start and stop that lights up, and a button to turn the fan on and off. The glass has writing on it at the three levels stating what function corresponds with that level. The NuWave has almost twice as many functions as the breville, for example breed proofing. With the NuWave each function has its own button. You then used the dial to scroll through and change the presets on the screen, kind of like a InstaPot. When you your desired function the screen displays what rack you use with that function. Preheat is an optional function and a button must be pressed for it to preheat. You have the option of long pressing the preheat function button and it will always preheat until you long press and disable the function. I tested both with frozen biscuits. Set both to cookies and set both to the same time and temp. I had to take the biscuits out of the NuWave with 11 minutes left of the original 26, or they would have been burnt on the outside. It cooked the biscuits to the same amount of doneness in the Breville and took them out with 3 minutes left of the original 26 minutes. Cut into both biscuits at the same time. The breville was done to perfection and the NuWave biscuits were slightly under done and doughy on the inside. I find there is a learning curve to baking with the NuWave over the Breville. With the Breville I can use the package directions and the shortest time listed. With the NuWave the outside is done before the inside and I have to give things a ride in the microwave to finish them off. Precooked frozen food that list Air Fryer Directions on the package, the NuWave has no issues with them products following the package directions. The NuWave may not be as good at baking over the Breville, but it more than makes up for it in its air fryer abilities, choice of functions, and most of all it lower price. Great product for its price point. I love the low temp bread proofing function. In the photo the top is NuWave biscuits and the bottom is Breville biscuits ... show more

  • Large oven, lots of settings and probe
Very large cavernous table top oven that has a lot of settings. The unit is constructed typical of these kinds of ovens, thinner steel, but solid. The heating elements are shielded, but this one has radiant rods and a fan to spread the heated air around. There are comprehensive instructions with a number of trays for accessories including a probe. Recommended for versatility and ease of use. ... show more
