  • Almost Flawless
Style: Ice Cream Maker
I have had this ice cream maker for a few months and have made at least four batches of ice cream with it. So far nothing has gone terribly wrong except for some problems with the construction and some worries that I have that I will get to later. First, all the worries I had when I first bought it have been mostly put to rest, the motor does not burn out or stop working. That said there is long term durability which is yet to be determined because of the cheap price. The maker come with good instructions. The construction is an outer plastic bucket that has a metal handle attached to it; on that metal handle is a plastic grip that helps with carrying. The inner bucket is made with aluminum and will easily be scratched by ice and salt as it is in use (this does not affect the ice creams ability it is only cosmetic). The beater is made from plastic; the motor is cased in plastic and has vents to allow heat dissipation. Now on to some of my worries 1.) The aluminum inner bowl is very thin. That means if you drop it, the bowl will dent and any deformation that blocks the turning of the beater will render the unit useless 2.) The motor while still working on mine still leaves me in doubt. This doubt around the motor is caused by the price tag; I will update this review if the motor goes wrong on mine. Now on the the problem. The outer plastic bucket has a metal handle attached to it, and that metal handle has a plastic grip. To make ice cream you need to add salt to ice, when the salt mixes with the ice it creates salt water. The saltwater when dumped from the bucket will hit the metal carrying handle and get in between the plastic grip and the metal handle, if the salt water is not cleaned off it will rust the handle. Mine has lost its chrome under the plastic handle and rust being rust will spread like cancer to the rest of the handle. They could fix this problem by making the handle stainless steel but this is unlikely, so if you buy this MAKE SURE YOU RINSE the handle under water. Or if you want to just make it easy take the plastic grip off. This problem is minor, it will not affect the ability of the ice cream maker to make ice cream but it might bother some of you so make sure you clean it after each use. I will include photos. ... show more

  • Oh yeah! Now that's what I have been looking for!
Style: Ice Cream Maker
I bought an expensive Cusinart ice cream maker and was SO disappointed! I knew that I didn't want one of the old style makers with the wooden tub because they come apart after a couple of tears. Now THIS is the ticket! I had to use this straight from the box. I washed it, poured in the custard mixture, topped it with layers of ice and salt, put the top on, and plugged it in. Viola! The motor never bogged down. When the ice cream was done, the machine stopped. Absolutely zero issues. It goes together easily, cleans up quick and functions flawlessly. I finally found a keeper! ... show more

  • MY LIFE IS RUINED BY ICE CREAM
Style: Ice Cream Maker
It was a Monday afternoon when I decided it was time to invest in an Ice Cream maker, I figured that I love ice cream so I might as well. Thanks to my Amazon Prime account and my two day shipping it only took my 2 days to lose control of my life. On Wednesday my Nostalgia Electrics 4 quart Ice Cream maker arrived at the house where I proceeded to open it immediately. I planned the day before to make a Death by Chocolate Ice Cream as my first experiment, I like chocolate, my housemates like chocolate, everyone loves chocolate. Putting the machine together was relatively easy, you put the metal container in, fill around it with a mixture of rock salt and ice, then place the mixed ingredients inside along with the mixer and the motor on top, easy. It’s not quiet, you can hear it working, you can hear it doing all the work, and mixing your soon to be ice cream. 20 minutes into the making I stopped the mixer, I took the motor off, I tasted the now thick soft serve consistency and my life changed forever. I MADE ICE CREAM, but not just any ice cream Death by Chocolate Ice Cream and this was the most chocolaty, creamy, beautiful ice cream I had ever had. I had to make more, I had to make different flavors. I found myself looking up flavors and mixtures and concoctions. From caramel swirl to Vanilla Lavender no ice cream flavor shall go untested! Buy Tupperware, buy ice cream cartons, THIS MACHINE HAS TURNED ME INTO AN ICE CREAM LUNATIC! I have ice cream in my dreams, I see it when I close my eyes, and I can’t put it down at all. This Ice Cream maker has ruined my life, I cannot think of anything other than ice cream. ... show more

  • So easy. Makes delicious ice cream
Style: Ice Cream Maker
Bought this for my sister for Christmas. We immediately made ice cream and it was so good!! We used regular size ice cubes, making layers of ice and rock salt. Used a no cook recipe with heavy cream, milk, sugar and vanilla. Will be buying another for myself!

  • Best purchase all year!!
Style: Ice Cream Maker
The only thing bad about this ice cream freezer is that if I don’t quit eating so much ice cream I am not going to fit into my jeans. I just put the ingredients into the canister, stir it up, put the paddle in and lid on, put the motor on it and plug it in. Add the ice and rock salt and in 25 to 30 minutes I have ice cream. You will have to add more ice and salt as it melts. I usually just use ice from my ice maker. This is so quick and easy to use! Homemade ice cream is so much better than that bought in the store in my opinion. Another plus is that I have already paid for the ice cream freezer with savings of over priced store ice cream. ... show more
