  • It stops working in less than 3 months
Size: 44lbs
This is simply a bad deal it started making noise that was loud and then just stopped making Ice. It sounded like a helicopter was landing in my kitchen and I took cover! We clean it regularly and my husband has one just like it at work that also died the same death. It’s currently unavailable of course and it’s 107 in Texas and there’s no Ice Ice Baby! Yeah I am kinda pissed ! ... show more

  • Update: vendor is unable to get a replacement unit to us in one piece!
Size: 44lbs
The media could not be loaded. Update 6/3/2022 Vendor has shipped two replacement units to us to replace the one that was shedding plastic into the ice, the first came in with a damaged box and had dumped its coolant into the box. The vendor sent another replacement (much quicker than the month it took for the first one), and this one came in a box that was destroyed! They're are loose parts inside the ice maker that are rattling around and the side is dented. There has been no mention of the vendor wanting the ice makers back, so I called my trash company and they charge $75 each to recycle a unit like this.... So $75 times three is $225.... So I have now paid $595( or will when I have to recycle the damaged units) total and still don't have a working unit. I would highly recommend avoiding this ice maker at all costs! Update 5/8/2022 we received our ice maker a month and 2 days ago... A few days ago as I was drinking a beverage I chewed some ice and found a small piece of white plastic in one of the nuggets... I passed it off as a fluke and ignored it. A couple days later it happened again. This evening my wife found white plastic in her ice.... We have a toddler who is teething and loves to eat ice, I can't give her any more ice from this ice maked because she could swallow the plastic if she got any. But of course the ice maker is JUST out of the return window bu TWO days..... This is not acceptable. I would give zero stars if I could due to a one month old ice maker shedding plastic bits into the ice cubes. We LOVE the chewable ice!!! you can see the layers in the ice chunks, so it appears the ice is compressed ice bits. The ice maker keeps ice fairly well through the day, but it is not a freezer so the ice does melt! The only real complaint we have about the ice maker is that we have softened and filtered water (3M water filter that filters down to 5 micron with a carbon filter) and the ice maker can not run a full day without needing to be cleaned because it starts squealing like a pig as it is making ice. I dont know that I believe that the ice maker can make 44 pounds of ice a day!!! Maybe if the ice drawer was a chilled chamber it might make closer to the claimed amount but with the ice maker not having a chilled chamber we go through 1 to 1.5 gallons of water in about 12 hours (a gallon of water is 8 pounds, so that would be roughly 16 to 24 pounds of ice a day). When my two adult children are at our house (so 4 adults) the ice maker keeps up fairly well and typically we freeze some ice at the end of the day to use the next day before the ice maker has produced enough to use. The ice make starts producing ice very quickly!! there is maybe a half cup of ice in the first 20 to 30 minutes and will fill the ice drawer in 4 to 6 hours. All in All we are happy with the ice maker but having to clean it at least once a day is a big draw back! yes we could maybe be use filtered bottled water BUT having to buy water for an ice maker seems extra and is the reason for the reduced stars I updated my review with the new horrible noise the ice maker is making after about 4 hours after running 2 cleaning cycles. This happens daily after about 3 to 6 hours from the last cleaning cycle. It is unreasonable to expect to have to run a cleaning cycle every 4 hours with filtered water! ... show more

  • Makes great ice nuggets!
Size: 44lbs
Easy to use. Makes nice small ice cubes similar to ice you'd get at Chic-Fil-A. I've had this for a little over a month now and used about a dozen times with no issues so far. It's very heavy, looks and feels well built and matches my stainless appliances nicely in the kitchen. My only complaint would be the price. $400 is a lot of money for something that just makes small ice. $250 would be a more reasonable price for this machine. In order for this machine to pay itself off it's gonna have to make a lot of ice over the next few years without any issues. I would recommend this machine if you happen to have an extra$400 burning a hole in you're pocket and you absolutely must have small ice nuggets. ... show more

  • Good While It Lasted
Size: 44lbs
I've had this ice maker for over a year and it finally gave up on me. It was a good ice maker for 8 months consistently. It made ice relatively quickly, the storage area kept the ice pretty cold even though I had this in front of the windows. The ice was always nice and crunchy but had a good chew to it! It began struggling to do it's job after the 9 month mark and would work intermittently after that. This is when it started getting extremely noisy. After a good year and change it stopped completely. ... show more

  • Love It!
Size: 44lbs
I love this machine. I use lots of ice and eat lots of ice. It is not soft like Sonic ice but still easy to chew. I have seen several reviews complaining about the ice melting....The basket is Not a freezer. You use the ice as it is made or you empty the basket into a bin in your freezer. Yes, sometimes it will stick together in your freezer but is easily broken apart (Amazon has several nice ice picks). This is a great product with a fairly reasonable price. I will get another one for my travel trailer when I save up for it. ... show more

  • Make sure you purchase the protection plan
Size: 44lbs
The ice maker worked perfectly for about 6 months. It started to make loud knocking noises every once and a while after that. Then it would make ice but it would leak from somewhere under the unit, not a small leak either. The drawer would leak when you pulled it out so bad that we had to put a towel under the scoop to catch the water. After about 10 months the UV light kicked off and would not come back on and the unit stopped making ice. Did all of the troubleshooting stuff nothing. NorthAir does have a website, no phone number for customer service, the chat function only works if you are trying to track an order. You have to copy and paste the email address on the site to get a hold of them. Don’t leave your information on the site and expect them to get back to you. You have to email them directly. When they did get back to me all they said was to talk to Amazon. We bought the protection plan and Assurant gave us a gift card to replace the item. If you buy this get the protection plan it’s worth it. ... show more
