I bought this, along with wire, to get rid of a wireless programable thermostat that was being problematic. Once I ran the new wiring, this thermostat was easy to install. The display is large and easy to see with the bright backlight. Temperature adjustment is easy to set and the controls are easy to operate. It operates my HVAC as it should and even looks decent. I was looking for a simple non-programmable thermostat to replace the programmable one we had that was malfunctioning. I first purchased a Honeywell brand non programmable one that looked a little sleeker than this one. However, it only had what seemed like a half degree differential and it was causing my furnace to short cycle (6-8 minutes). I ordered this thermostat in hopes that it would work as intended. It works exactly how it should and no more short cycling! This thermostat was easy to install by reading the manual. It looks great and the large display with green backlight is easy to read. I compared the temperature to an indoor thermometer and it was spot on. I appreciate the simplicity of the thermostat and I’m glad that I don’t have to fight with complicated programming. The wiring to my furnace only contains 3 wires and is unable to support modern smart thermostats. So if you need a simple thermostat or are replacing an older thermostat, this is an excellent option. My only complaint would be that it doesn’t come with a wall/back plate. But they do have one available to purchase separately and I will be ordering that next. ... show more

    • Easy to use, settable temperature swing, but not very accurate

Easy to use and install. Nice bright backlit display. Adjustment for temperature swing is important, and so few thermostats have this! If you can't control how much swing you will allow around your set point, digital thermostats will turn your a/c or furnace on and off every 10 minutes to keep your room temperature within a fraction of a degree of the set point, which is absurd. Being able to control the thermostat so it does not go on or off until the temperature varies by (for example) 1 degree from your set point is great. So why only 4 stars? Unfortunately, this thing was not very accurate. It measured a solid 5 degrees too high, compared with 4 other thermometers I have (and they all agree with each other within less than 1 degree). This device does have a setting that lets you tweak the measured temperature up or down by up to 4 degrees. But that actually wasn't enough to get it dead on because it was off by 5, and even so, you shouldn't have to use up the device's whole error adjustment just to get it close. If you an electronics nerd, the rest is for you. Otherwise, you can stop here.... ha ha. I took mine apart and modified the circuit a little to correct the reading. 1. Take the back off (4 screws). 2. Note a small black bulb component with two leads soldered to the board in one corner (it's obvious). This is the thermistor. 3. Unsolder one lead. 4. To skew the measurement a little LOWER than what it shows, add a small resistor in series with that lead and solder back to the board. I added 100 ohm 1/8w metal film (so it is temperature-stable), and that got my reading down from 75 to the correct reading of 70F in a 70 degree room. If you need to make this device read HIGHER, you are kind of out of luck. There is no obvious resistor on the board that you could remove and lower in value in order to skew the measurement higher. You could try adding a very high value resistor ACROSS the thermistor leads, in parallel with it, which should skew the reading higher. It won't be exactly linear. But since you are making a small adjustment, it probably won't matter. The thermistor measures about 7k ohm at 70 degrees F, so you might try putting a 500k across it, which will make the combined resistance about 6900. A 100 ohm skew seems to affect the reading by about 5 degrees. AND... after you do any soldering, wait a good 10 minutes to see how the reading is, because the heat from the soldering iron will completely throw the measurement off until it cools off. ... show more

I replaced a 20 yr old central AC thermostat with the Heagstat Non-Programmable Thermostat. I have a 3 wires connected to the thermostat. Easy install and only used for AC. I am legally blind. The unit that I had installed two years ago was impossible for me to read AT ALL! I am sure there are other similar thermostats out there. Although I was apprehensive at the $23 cost, I went ahead and bought this. A friend had it installed in thirty minutes! The unit works on two AA batteries. The battery compartment is easily accessible on the bottom front of the unit. NO FUMBLING AROUND!This unit is a basic unit. You cannot program it. It will work for an HVAC system (heat and cool) and is truly easy to see, with the large green backlit screen. A great item for the money, it is now only one week old, but I am hopeful it will last! Upon instalation we loved the easy to read screen and ease of use. Unfortunately, when I set it to heat, it didn't connect with the furnace. It indicated furnace on but the furnace wasn't getting the message. It works fine for the central air but not the heat. There is a jumper wire connecting the heat and the cooling functions so the problem may be in that area. I also tried functioning with the toggle switch on gas and on electric. No go. There was no contact information to connect with the manufacturer so I had to send it back. ... show more
