An electric scooter seemed like the perfect solution! We chose this scooter because it is high powered, reaching speeds of up to 20mph, and portable. The scooter arrived well packed and was incredibly easy to assemble. It’s primarily already put together so only the handles need to be secured. The app is easy to download and charging is also easy. We had no trouble collapsing it down or folding it back out. The ride is smooth and the wide base is comfortable and secure for my husband who wears a size 12 shoe. The headlight and break lights are great for safety and better visibility and the bell is fun to use. Functionally, this scooter is great. However, portability isn’t quite as advertised. This scooter is HEAVY. There’s no carrying it up stairs with one hand and a briefcase in the other like the photo shows. My husband is quite strong and this isn’t something even he would want to carry around for any distance. The product box even has a “team lift” sticker on it, so that should say something about it’s actual weight. There is no way we could comfortably carry this scooter from the parking lot down to the water when having a beach day. Let's start with the good: This is a really well built electric scooter and I'd wager it's more comfortable to ride than many of the commercial E-Scooter rentals you can find around town. I really like the super-solid latch on the folding handlebar - there is zero slop in that joint and it locks down nice and securely. In "eco" mode, it goes about 6-8mph and then in normal mode it will get up to 18-20mph depending on the road/path conditions. It has plenty of power to handle driving a full 200lb adult across soft grass (at a much slower pace) and it handled moderate slopes on a bikepath without any issue. My wife and I enjoy taking the E-Scooters around town for a date night after parking the car. We have this one and a HiBoy KS4-Pro. The NIU KQi3-Pro is easily the nicer scooter. It has a wider and longer deck, the handlebars are beefier and the brakes are smooth and responsive with no exposed wires. Plus, it just looks sharp and the fit and finish is top notch. There are many different scooter settings you can change in the app such as the amount of regenerative braking that is applied when you're slowing down etc. You can also log your routes and map them out so you can keep track of them and compare stats and stuff which is nice. You can set custom modes, though I haven't honestly used that feature so I can't really comment on how well it works. Now on to the bad....sadly this is a section of the review that I wish I didn't have to write. The MANDATORY app and initial toddler-mode are the reason this scooter takes a hit on the review rating. The idea that you HAVE to register an account with NIU and install an app on your phone before you can ever use the scooter is just ridiculous. Then, even after you allow the company to have full access to your phone for whatever data-harvesting they feel like doing, you still can't actually use the scooter. Nope, now you are treated like a toddler and the scooter is in super-slow-slow-mode. When I say slow, I mean that it wouldn't actually move an adult human on flat ground, you have to push yourself around on it manually like a normal scooter. The minimum required distance isn't a short distance either, it took probably 5min of pushing to get to a distance that the app considered you "trained". Even after a few weeks of riding it happily and having warm fuzzy feelings towards this scooter, just thinking about the startup process gets me riled up again. If this had a "recommended training" for users or an optional scooter lock/unlock function controlled by the app then I would have wholeheartedly given this scooter a 5star review with high praise to anyone that asked. But that's not the case and the startup is just BS. The scooter I love, but unless they change this asinine kind of customer experience, I would never buy nor recommend them as a company. I truly hope that NIU listens to their customers and I can come back and update this review from 3 to 5 stars. ... show more

I got this scooter for my son after his last one got stolen. He loves it. But after 4 months of use, it generated error code 03, which seems to be quite common. I took apart the thumb throttle and found a wire that came disconnected from the hall effect sensor. I tried to repair it by milling out the housing to get to the PC board and reattaching the wire, but I must have damaged something else on the board in the process, because the throttle still won't work. I put in a request for a new throttle, because I was not able to find a replacement throttle or hall effect sensor online after a whole afternoon of searching. ... show more

Everything is OK except the fact that nowhere in the sales literature does anyone state that you will have an annoying flashing E Save indicator on dash that does not go away when you enable custom mode to unlock the higher speed/ power. In addition you will lose ready access to the correct e save mode for going at 9mph! I wanted it all available to me on the fly but it is just a sales gimmick it seems. The higher speed is now redundant thing for my use as I'm not going to ride with limitations to only two available speeds - 22mph which is the highest I've attained and pedestrian speed of 3mph. Nothing in the middle! I feel cheated as their phone rep told me just return it I don't like that as there is no software update to fix this issue. Can't believe how uncaring they are. My first scooter had problems with the battery overheating and an error code "03" on the screen. I sent it back after 2 weeks and got another one today. This one won't charge and the front wheel squeaks. If it were not for the fact that I have another scooter of the same model, I would think they are a piece of trash. But I'm hopeful that the third time will be a charm. I really like the scooter and think it's a good product. I hope I just got the two rotten apples in the bunch and that there aren't any more. ... show more
