Features

  • Camera compatibility: Compatible with FX and DX format Nikon Z series mirrorless (on DX-format cameras, the lens has a field of view of 60mm)
  • Fast & quiet Autofocus: AF System greatly suppresses focus breathing to prevent angle-of-view shifts during recording: also allows for smooth iris adjustments with the click-less control ring to create a natural shift in brightness.
  • Custom control ring: Customize the way you shoot. Use it for precise manual focusing or to adjust aperature, ISO, or exposure compensation.
  • Beautiful background blur: The shallow depth of field of f/2 is enhandced by the lens' 9 rounded blade diaphragm, creating a natural bokeh effect.

  • Beautiful Pictures, Lightweight, Compact
Amazing value for such a high quality little lens! The lens is lightweight and compact; easy to carry around if you are really active either on a hiking trail or city streets. Works very well for landscapes and street photography, but can work decently well as a wider portrait lens for full body shots. The lens is of cheaper quality, though, being that the housing is made of plastic while some Nikon lenses are metal, but that's entirely fine for such a short, prime lens where it's not as susceptible to accidental damage like a long, zooming telephoto lens. If you don't already have a lens that open wider than F/4 in the neighborhood of 40 mm, then I definitely recommend the lens. It's a great complement especially if you already have the F/4 24 - 70 kit lens. ... show more

  • Excellent lens
This Z 40mm f2.0 prime lens is a great value. I find that 40mm on my full-frame Nikon Zf mirrorless camera is a great option for my "walkaround" photography. It's not "wide-angle" it's not "telephoto", it's right in the middle where many photos are taken. It's small and light weight so it's easy to tote around if you want to switch with a wide or tele lens. I bought the standard edition as the SE version was not available at the time. They are the same lens except for the "old-fashioned" look of the SE version. That was not an issue for me. Also the SE model is more expensive. I'm very pleased with the sharpness and clarity of my images. The manual focus ring is smooth and accurate. The build quality is good and everything looks well-assembled. It's a great price and value for the results I'm getting. I'm really glad I bought it. ... show more

  • Sharp and versatile, Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 is a must-have prime lens.
The Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 lens exceeded my expectations in every way. Its large aperture of f/2 allows for stunning low-light performance and beautiful background blur, adding a professional touch to my photography. The 40mm focal length strikes a perfect balance between wide-angle and portrait, making it versatile for a variety of shots. Whether capturing crisp details or achieving creamy bokeh, this lens delivers exceptional image quality. Its compact and lightweight design makes it an ideal companion for any photography adventure. I'm thoroughly impressed with the results I've achieved using the Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 lens, and it has become a permanent fixture in my camera bag. ... show more

  • Nice lens!
Love this lens! Build quality it's 2025 economic reality, numbers are tough at nikon so they made a plastic quality for the same market the 50mm f1.8 used to be in 2010 (price it's the same, 50mm cost me 150usd in 2010, that should be around 230usd in 2025) I think the most important feature of this lens is that simplifies photography, it's compact, and you don't have to think about closer zoom at different apertures, you zoom with your feet, and just take pictures. I would really like if it was a liiiittle bit smaller, a little more "mirrorless", what's the point of making the camera smaller and the lens bigger? Yeah, I know, image quality, blah blah... lets be real, nobody takes better pictures because of mirrorless! ... show more

  • Fantastic lens for the price.
This lens has become my "daily driver." It's a great focal length for every day photography. The size and weight are great just for walking around and exploring. The lens is plenty sharp, but I'm not zooming in to 400% to determine a picture's worth. Overall, I have no complaints about this lens. I bought this with the expectation that this would be more of a limited-time lens. However, this is on my Z8 about 80% of the time. ... show more

  • Cheap and good
In Argentina we say “ bueno bonito barato” ( BBB) ( good , good looking and cheap). This little lens it’s just that . A small lens with fast aperture. Maybe it’s not a 50 1.8s line lens buts for the price you can’t ask for more. It’s like the 35 1.8 AFS G dx or the 50mm f1.8g AFS for F mount. Lenses that are not so expensive and can do incredible pictures. So if you want to spend not so much money this maybe is perfect for you ... show more

  • Really nice compact lens
This is a fantastic travel Lens at a great focal length and it’s pretty fast and practically silent. It’s VERY small, extremely lightweight and did I mention it’s fast!? Really fast. It has some softness on the outer edges but I actually like this as it has a “look” that’s really cool. I also have the NIKKOR 24-70mm and I think I prefer this 40mm lens better for travel. ... show more

  • Lightweight Powerhouse!
I bought this lens while looking for a prime lens for some video work. The 2.8 aperture is perfect in low light and the image quality for such a small, inexpensive, lightweight lens is incredible. Value in price, quality in performance. The mount is plastic but after 6+ months of regular use I honestly don’t even notice. It produces super sharp and clean images and really shines shooting B-Roll with video on my Z6ii. Highly recommend especially if the 50mm 1.8z is a bit too much for you. This lens outperforms it’s price point. ... show more
