  • Great for traveling
The Nikon 24-200 lens I recently acquired is nothing short of exceptional! Its versatile range, ideal for travel photography, has opened up a world of creative possibilities. The lightweight design is a boon for on-the-go photographers like me, ensuring I can capture stunning shots without feeling weighed down by heavy equipment. While it's true that this lens falls on the expensive side, the investment is undoubtedly worth it for the unparalleled image quality it delivers. The sharpness, clarity, and color rendition are truly outstanding, making every photo a masterpiece. If you're willing to stretch your budget a bit, this Nikon lens is a must-have for any serious photographer who wants to travel on a single or dual lens system. It's a five-star gem that elevates my photography to new heights! ... show more

  • sharp and light
This replaces a non-Nikon 28-300mm general purpose lens, and surpasses it in every way. I miss the 300mm range but appreciate the wider 24mm end as well which is more useful in close quarters. I also own Nikon's 24-70mm and echo the opinion of many reviewers that this is just as sharp - which is pretty sharp indeed. It may be a tad softer round the edges wide open but honestly its more academic that a factor in the real world. Yes it goes to f6.3 pretty quickly in the zoom range, but with today's cameras you can up your ISO a lot without getting too noisy. It has minimal to insignificant distortion and CA is also kept well under control. When used on the 45.7MP sensor of the Z7/ Z72 you also have plenty of room for cropping, thus utilizing the best part of the lens, and makes it very useful for birds, insects and general close up work. I have yet to try it for portraits but have any confidence it will shine there too. I shoot professionally, and have several prime and top grade lenses to compare it to. I have been really impressed with the 24-200mm's performance. While it might not be as absolutely as sharp as some of them it is not too far off, and for an all purpose lens it makes far less compromises that you would expect. The enclosed shot is a moderate crop from about 150mm and has a nice bokeh as well. ... show more

  • Was hoping this lens wasn't a compromise relegating my Z camera to a point and shoot
I am relatively new to photography having done a significant amount of research into the technology to support my hobby. Spent months considering full-frame, APS-C, Brand, SLR/Mirrorless etc. and ultimately ended up with the Nikon Z camera. I'm an enthusiast and pretty much now always use the camera on Manual to take control over the picture and have spent a lot of time understanding all of the key metrics involved in photography - big shout-out to Jared Polin. I know that primes and f2.8 lenses are considered professional and do have the 85mm and 35mm Z lenses for the camera in addition to the great kit lens 24-70 f4. I also had the F mount 70-200 f4 but with the adapter found it cumbersome and quite noisy when trying to focus. This lens isn't designated as 'S' line and is there not considered anywhere close to the quality of the 70-200 f2.8 or 24-70 f2.8 but is also considerably cheaper at only 20% of the cost of the other two combined. I watched many reviews on YouTube and online and decided to take the plunge and buy the lens. After using the lens now for a month or so I have to say I'm very impressed. Does it have the same level of quality and control as the larger f2.8's? No, and it's much slower. But the reason I bought the Z system is the VR, the stop reduction afforded by the VR and the quality of the sensor so the real-world difference to me is great. I'm no pixel peeper and don't have the considerably more expensive f2.8's to compare to - all that is done online by multiple reviewers but I have to admit I've not taken this lens off the camera since buying it. Long story short - this is a keeper and despite the lack of the 'S' designation and the fact it's quite slow as soon as you get beyond 30mm, the pictures are excellent. I've not had any major issues with light and so this lens is an absolute great all-rounder. Even if Nikon would build my wish-list lens of a z70-200 f4, coupled with my included z24-70 I'd probably still leave this lens on most of the time. Just so easy to grab and go with a great size and practicality. ... show more

  • Good build
My new Nikkor Z 24-200mm is great all around. For a zoom lens, it exhibited excellent build quality with light weight. Everything works great with my Zf camera (like Focus Peaking). It has a clean design and not too long for a zoom and of course, no lens converter is required. There are no switches to control lens functions except a locking switch for the 24mm position - which I don't consider necessary as the lens barrel tension is perfect (not lose or sloppy). The lens does not extend downward if you carry it on a shoulder strap. You have to make any lens adjustments in your camera. This is a great lens for general photography use. It replaces several of my fixed lenses for "walking around" photography. The VR (vibration reduction) works well. It's auto-focus speed is quite fast and accurate on my camera. Overall, this is a very good lens and a worthwhile purchase. My only complaint is that it's a bit soft (focus) at and near 200mm. especially If you crop much. If you plan to make large prints or otherwise insist on perfect focus at long zooms, consider the Z 100-400mm "S" lens instead. I have that lens too and it maintains very sharp at all focal lengths. ... show more

  • Sharp Pictures with Fast Autofocus
Great 'walk around' lens with the extended zoom range. Gives sharp pictures throughout its zoom range.

  • Great do it all option for none specialized tasks
It's sharp and has a great range for general daylight work or fun. I just think Nikon is abusing those Z lens prices...
