  • Get this while you still can
Getting hard to find. Works perfectly for my D500. Awesome feel and ergonomic controls. Ups the fps count and increases overall battery life (because now you have two batteries to utilize) very pleased 😁

I love my grip.

  • I buy Nikon for a reason
It works well and even this Nikon version has oddities. I put a fully charged battery in and it take a few hours or pictures for it to register as full. Whatever. Better than the off brands that show no charged batteries

  • Free is the correct price.
I've owned many grips for many different Nikon bodies over the years, for both digital and film. This is the most expensive MSRP one yet, but since I got in on a special bargain, it was actually free. And if I'd handled one before hand, and it wasn't free, I'd have tried with a knockoff instead. I've also owned several knockoff grips over the years as well. They are truly inferior--the Nikon parts have tended to be much more solid, employing much more cast magnesium alloy in their construction. This has far more plastic than I've ever seen on a genuine Nikon grip. Maybe there's some metal hiding under there, but when I tap on it, it sure seems like the bulk of it is plastic. It feels very solid. It mounts quite tightly. But the battery trays feel chintzy, and separated from the camera, it feels insubstantial. This fits with the feel of the camera...seems solid, but it feels off somehow. Once owned a MB-D10 knockoff. It cost $60 and lasted a year. I bought the Nikon part later for substantially more. It's solid! I still have it, eight years later. This grip feels a lot more like that Meike MB-D10 knockoff. The dials are stiff. When I rub it, it sounds like hollow, resonant plastic. The real MB-D10 feels like part of a single digit body. Even the grip for the D7000 seemed higher quality. I keep checking it over, looking for some evidence that it's a counterfit. But no, it appears to be real. It works, but I'm very unimpressed. ... show more

  • A must have accessory!!
Yes it is a little expensive. Quality items usually are! Having said that, I rarely, as in almost never, use my D500, w/o the grip attached. I find the extra gripping surface and weight a huge plus. It feels superb in the hand. Comfortable!! Now as far as Im concerned, I thin the battery life could be a little better. My OEM EN EL 18b gets about 500 frames per charge. I do spend only an average amount of time reviewing photos, and in menus. I never edit, or anything like that in camera. So its not that. Maybe its a sample issue of my battery?? Anyway, having said this, I would still not be w/o it, as I never am. I love it, and today ordered a RRS L bracket for the MB D17, and no plate for the camera w/o a grip, if that backs up my review. Hope this helps someone. Thanks. ... show more

  • Pricey but superb
This works beautifully. Admittedly I haven't used an off-market grip, so I can't comment on how this differs from a much-cheaper option. Yes, this has the classic Nikon price, but it feels solid and works flawlessly. Like the terrific d500 body, this grip has the joystick to control focus points easily. I don't shoot weddings, so I had no need for the extra battery on hand, but the ergonomics of shooting portrait orientation with a grip are worth the extra weight and size alone -- but maybe not worth the price for you. I got this bundled "for free" with a d500 body, so the price was right for me. I don't know if I'd pay $370 ala cart for this, but I also know I've had problems with third party batteries, lenses, etc. Overall, very happy with this battery grip. ... show more

  • DONT BUY THE KNOCK OFFS!!! it is worth paying the extra money for a genuine grip!!!
DONT BUY THE KNOCK OFFS!!! it is worth paying the extra money for a genuine grip!!! They may look the same and they may even work the same... but they are not BUILT the same. The Knock off brands are hollow at the tripod mount... it feels like what would be just glue and plastic holding it together... whereas the Genuine grip is solid and sturdy at the mount. I use the Black Rapid Sport to attach to the tripod mount and carry it around with zero issues with a 70-200 or 150-600 lens.... I would definitely NOT trust the knock off brands to do that... its NOT worth it... you dropped a TON of money on a nice camera and lens... don't take the chance with knock off crud!!! BUY GENUINE GRIPS ... show more

  • A little pricey but I love the functionality
A little pricey but I love the functionality. It does everything I wanted it to do and it just works. My only complaint (and it's a small one) is that when I sit the camera down on a flat surface with the kit lens (16-80) the balance point makes it tip forward. You would have thought the engineers could have designed these 3 (D500, 16-18 lens, grip) items to sit flat since it would be a common combination but I still love the grip. ... show more
