  • Pricey but does double duty
Well, yes the lens should have shipped with this. However, after purchasing I tried it on the Nikon 1 NIKKOR 18.5mm f/1.8 (Black) , because obviously that didn't ship with a hood either, and sure enough it worked. Well I can't speak to it's reducing flair vs what the stock hood ont he 18.5mm would, but it does attach and provide the front element protection I wanted it for so... for the price, I'll hold my complaints to a minimum since I didn't have to buy yet another one. ... show more

  • Does the job, should come with the lens
I do not know why this lens didnt come wit a hood... it is stupid you have to buy one, but of course you should. It doesnt give you as much hood protection as you would prefer, but the lense goes out to 10mm so seriously how much could it. Performs well and does not impact the shot.

  • Should come with lens, but nice hood
The hood is well made and fits the lens well. It is not real deep as it has to work with the 10mm end of the lens but does provide some shading. I do not use filters for protection so its main purpose to me is to give some protection to the lens glass which it does. The only problem I have is that a hood comes with the 30-110mm so why must one pay extra for the 10-30mm? ... show more

  • Is really a must for Nikon 1, read why..
When I received my Nikon 1 J2, I really like the camera. But I see that the cap is the weakest point. I think Its gonna fall... (And it did a month later). So I purchase this hood immediately together with Tiffen Filter. With this, I don't have to worry about the lens (and the camera). I bring my Nikon 1 J2 everyday eherever I go, and have lots of amazing shot. Highly recommend it! ... show more

  • Works like a charm
Aside from the cost, this lens hood works great. It snaps into place and stays secure with no issues. I am able to flip it towards the camera and put my lens cap on with ease. If you can overcome the price then you should get this lens.

  • Great product but could use minor redesign
It is great quality and works perfectly. Unfortunately, when you flip it over for storage on the lens, it almost completely blocks the lens unlock button. Nikon could have put at least one recess in the rim at the button location to avoid this. If you go to use the camera and don't need the hood, it is a little hard to unlock the lens wihtout flipping the hood. ... show more

  • The hood that should have come with the 10-30
So, it's a lens hood, it's pretty small, but it also has to be with the wide end of the zoom on the lens where it is. I honestly bought this more for protection of the end element than anything. It attaches securely enough, and if you flip it around it attaches in reverse to the lens just fine for storage as well. ... show more

  • excellent lens hood
I was quite surprised when Nikon did not supply this hood with the camera/lens package even though the Nikon rep at the camera store promotion demonstrated the camera & lens with this hood attached (penny rich and pound poor?). A hood does come with the telephone lens. In any event, the product is up to usual excellent Nikon standards ... show more
