  • This little ring changed my photgraphic life
I picked this up after experimenting with reversed lens macro the old fashion way and just holding my lens on backwards. I also picked up the Nikon 50mm F1.8 since it has an aperture ring instead of trying to hold the little lever. The ring fits the camera well (took one or two times on and off to get it to go on nice) and I didn't realize at first that it would actually lock into the camera, but now that it's all worked in I feel pretty secure with the setup, it doesn't seem like it's going to fall off or anything. I've learned my flash likes to be at 1/64 power on manual to get well lit shots at F8 iso200, 1/100sec (obviously if I was outside on a bright day I'd probably have to play with the settings again, but I've been using it indoors), once you dial in your settings taking pictures is really quick, focusing isn't an issue once you get the hang of it unless you go to 1.8 or something, at F8 the DOF is decent to work with. My 50mm gives around 1:1 macro according to the included chart and works very well. When I need to go in closer the 35mm F1.8 goes a lot closer but requires using the aperture lever so your always just guessing where you are (and after a bit you get pretty used to that). Compared to an actual macro lens this thing is dirt cheap and gives a lot more flexibility since switching lenses switches the macro ratio. The only issue I have is my 35mm doesn't screw on as securely as any of my other lenses, but it is pretty light so I'm not too worried. ... show more

  • I wanted to love this, but it will not fit onto my D800 body.
I am so disappointed. This reversing ring is superbly made. The machining is beautiful, it has a nice heft, and felted inner diameter. The filter threads are SOOOO smooth. I couldn't stop putting this on and taking it off my lens. Of all the accessories you mount to your camera, THIS feels like it is part of your camera, like it is designed for it. It's by Nikon after all. If they don't make it fit your camera like a glove, who will? Unfortunately, this doesn't fit my D800E body. It would not do the full 60 degree rotation to lock into place. It started to seriously bind after about 30 degrees, at which point I immediately stopped. The #1 rule of camera gear and accessories: if it doesn't fit, DON'T FORCE IT. I double-checked by mounting it to my Nikon and Photodiox reverse-lens filter adapters, as well as to my Xiten extension tubes, just to make sure I wasn't going crazy. Sure enough, it was tight (to varying degrees) on all of them. This leads me to suspect that the F-mount specification isn't tightly toleranced. But still... Nikon manufactures camera bodies. Nikon manufactures lenses. They all fit together nicely. Why can't they make this reversing ring fit? ... show more

  • Strong and great fit
This reversing ring worked great! It is made of steel so will hold up to heavier use than rings made of aluminum. Since there are not too many threads on the filter end of the lens, I wanted a ring which was strong enough to hold the lens securely. This ring fits my requirements. It fits the camera perfectly and is easy to get on and off. ... show more

Used to reverse mount lens with 52mm filter threads on Nikon camera. I use it with 28mm f/2.8 for about 2:1 magnification as well as with extension tubes to mount enlarging lenses for higher magnification. Works perfectly.

I bought Nikon thinking it would be a superior product. The second time I put it on my camera it locked up my camera, and it stopped working. I couldn't get it off my camera. I got the lens off the ring, and called Nikon. They said I had to send it it to get the ring off. I am waiting now to hear from Nikon. Highly pissed. I don't know if I will get the ring back in time to send it back to Amazon for a refund! This product broke my camera. ... show more

  • Just awesome
Quality you would expect from a nikon product. Paired with a fotodiox aperture control ring you can get fantastic photos at high magnification.

  • Macro Reversing Ring
The best way to take close up pictures is with a good prime 1:1 macro lens. Not a 1:4 but a 1:1 lens. The problem is that good macro lens are not cheap. The 105mm VR Nikkor is superb. Bellows, extension rings, and this reversing ring are the next best bet.

  • Wonderful
Cheap and instant macro lens. The threads are well cut and the lens screws on smoothly. But it is not a replacement for a good macro lens. You do lose all automatic functionality of the lens.
