This is an excellent camera lens. Good focus, excellent zoom, no visible distortion over the zoom range. Easy and quick to operate. Fits easily on my Nikon 6000. Stabilization helps. I bought it as a replacement for the same camera lens I damaged traveling. Not easy to damage. Someone slammed their luggage into my hand luggage in the overhead bin. The price on Amazon was excellent. It cost me less to buy a replacement on Amazon than Nikon bid for the repair. Had the same lens attached to a Nikon D90. It is used in a photo booth among other things. The camera was dropped and in the process the lens broke. The lens came with the camera which I purchased in 2008. Works for close-up and zoom shots equally, meaning you get the best of both worlds for your typical needs. Other lens (which I have) are either close-up or for zoom shots only. With that being said, the camera now takes even better pictures than before, go figure. Lens is reasonably priced.     • Great lens, sutiable for everyday use
I have a D3000. The original kit 18-55 lens no longer works very well, probably becasue I dropped it. As other reviewers have observed, it is rather fragile. Some time ago, I added the 55-200 and the 35 prime DX lenses, both of which have performed well. But I love my new 18-105! It will certainly become the lens that I use the most. Very sharp images, excellent autofocus, decent in low light, and long enough to capture most outdoor shots. The only minor drawback is that it is a bit heavy. I will also note that although I bought a "refurbished" lens from a third-party vendor, as advertised it was brand new. I think this lens is included as the base lens with some of Nikon's more expensive SLR's, so that makes sense. ... show more

    • Good starter lens, but not at this price.
This lens has many positives going for it: it's light, has a great range that would cover most amature use, quiet, resonable AF speed, resonable image quality, and resonable light gathering with VR. It would be a perfect kit lens for the D40 (or Nikon's entry SLR line). The main problem is cost, at this price (about 330 to 400 new) I'd expect better optics, or higher durability (metal mount, less plastic), or both. The 18-55 lens and the 55-200 (either VR/non-VR) have better optics and are *much* cheaper. This lens really makes you wonder if you should just save more and get the 18-200 intead (a much better lens optically and durablity, but *heavy*) I do like this lens, it makes it much easier to just grab my camera and go. I just wish it were at the 200 to 250 price point. ... show more

New lens arrived well packaged and protected. It included both caps. It didn’t include the HB-32 Bayonet lens hood or CL-1038 flexible lens pouch listed in the description. Still, very pleased with the purchase.

    • Great lens!
I bought this lens to extend my reach with a single lens. Prior to this I had the 18-55 that came with my D5100 camera body and a 55-300 I had bought but found myself switching lenses more often that I liked when attending various events and performances. This allows me to get enough reach for most situations and I now only have to switch to the longer lens when I have seats further back. The zoom on the lense is nice and smotth and auto-focus is quick and crisp. I'm sure that are many people who could point on some minor details that aren't perfect with the lense, but I am completely satisfied, especially at the price point for this lens vs many others. ... show more

good lens...! but when i bought this lens to abes of maine i didnt realized that it is a white box item because i misread the comments to the item and i know its my fault so i called them just to ask why are they sending me a white box and not the original box,the guy i been talking to start raising his voice and he didnt even give me a change to explain and he said "youre calling me a liar!,youre calling me a liar!"and he sounds very upset on me why does he need to raised his voice?,i just wanna ask about the white box thing that ididnt see in the comments..i dont think that is the proper way to treat a customer. ... show more
