  • Inexpensive Alternative to Z Series Lens, but without Auto-Focus
I recently purchased a Nikon Z6 kit through Adorama because it was the best deal available for shooting both video and still imagery. The kit came with a Nikkor Z 24-70mm f/4 S lens and an FTZII Adapter. Several months later, I did not want to spend $2000 plus right away for another Z lens, so I was tempted to buy the Nikon AF-P DX Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED Lens for $190. The sales representatives at Global Camera USA through Amazon cautioned me against it, and I'm thankful they did. I found that a DX lens operating in DX Mode on a Z6 would only capture images at 10.3 megapixels instead of fully utilizing the 24 megapixel sensor, reducing overall image quality by more than half. So I asked what lens they would recommend for the same focal length within a similar price range. They recommended a Nikon 70-300 mm f/4-5.6G Zoom Lens with Auto Focus for Nikon DSLR Cameras (Renewed). They also price matched it with another vendor for me at $249. I later found in one review online that the lens was available for $180 back in 2018, but I suppose that was before the "Great Reset of 2020" drove prices up on everything... Anyway, I have had the lens for about a week now. I did have to download the latest firmware update for my Z6 and the latest firmware update for the FTZII Adapter. After following the instructions from the official Nikon site, it worked! I field tested the setup the next day, but I noticed right away that the auto-focus feature does not work. Also, if there is any vibration reduction (VR) between the camera and the lens, then it is quite minimal. Regardless, I am still quite pleased with the lens for its reach capability, and I was able to acquire it for a fraction of the cost of a new Z series lens. Now, I can still enjoy the great low-light features of the Z6 camera body and reach out a little further for increased depth of field and tighter shots! ... show more

  • Hit Or Miss, Blurry Or Not
This lens was used on my Nikon D5500 DSLR camera and it performed pretty mediocre. Quality of the lens feel great knowing that it's refurbished but, the shots I took were either hit or miss. Some days where there was no wind at all and I would take a shot day or night, the shots would look blurry. I would refocus sometimes and then retake my shots but other points are blurry. I think it was the camera settings for when I took the shots but, If I were to switch to my 200mm prime and it performed instantly great. PROs: - Good price for the build quality - Had no scratches or damages when I received my unit. - Images are hit or miss in quality CONs: - It says AUTO FOCUS on the lens but, the lens is FULLY MANUAL. - Blurry images even after refocusing and or changing camera settings. - It's a big 70-300mm Lens. SUMMING UP: I like the fact that I have a 70-300mm to carry around but, I didn't know the lens is fully manual despite it labeled as AF on the lens and on Amazon also. I took a few shots and have uploaded it with the review, I did some retouching and I still see that the sharpness isn't all so well. Normal environments are maybe a better chance to get this to perform well but, I was always out doing landscape shots with this. ... show more

  • Nikon 70-300 zoom gets 1000 Stars!
Love this lens! Great for daylight photos. Wildlife or any other situation where you need to reach out and touch something. SUPER FAST auto focus with Nikon D500. While it's not considered "Fast glass" it works great in well lighted situations, and the D500's low light capabilities extend that usefulness considerably. While I have only used it for a week or so, so far I haven't noticed any aberrations or distortions. Lens arrived well packed and in perfect "like new" condition. I highly recommend this lens not only for it's great performance with the D500, but for its budget price which allows your average everyday person to enjoy the benefits of telephoto photography. Seller is great and shipping was smooth an fast! ... show more

  • Beautiful image quality.
We put the lens through its paces, and it performed beautifully. The image quality is excellent. If it had not been listed as renewed, we not have known that it wasn't new. No complaints whatsoever.
