  • Decent Night Vision Toy for The Money
This review is for Night Vision Goggles Night Vision Binoculars for Complete Darkness - 1080P Video Infrared Digital Goggles for Adults Hunting & Adventure & Camping with Card Reader/32GB TF Card. I ordered these for a low-cost solution to see what animals I get in my area at night. I get animals from small to large in my area, and most of them come out at nighttime. For the price, these were actually better than I thought they would be. The picture is by no means great, and the distance is a bit short-range. However, they do work. The picture is a bit grainy, and the night vision can hotspot. A nice travel case and several accessories are included, like a neck strap. The binoculars themselves are made of cheap plastic, so these are not something to really venture the wilderness with. This is more of a camera with night vision. I was surprised that this uses so many batteries, 8 AA. It is neat that it has a memory card slot for storing pictures/video. If you want something to tinker with at night, this is a fun toy. This could also be useful if you want a steppingstone for night vision before getting into seriously expensive equipment. Overall, for the price, these night vision binoculars serve a purpose. ... show more

  • Tecnically neither "goggles" nor "binoculars," but a nice night-vision camera nevertheless!
The term "binoculars" refers to an optical magnification system which provides two distinct images, one for each eye. Googles, similarly, refer to a stereoscopic system, where each eye gets a different image. That's not what this is. There are also two different forms of "night vision" devices. The first, and most common, is the "IR camera and IR light source" approach, which is what this device uses. As most creatures can't see infrared light (though SOME certainly can... for example, rattlesnakes will see this as clearly as you or I would see a spotlight!) it's generally a good solution. The other drawback to using IR is that infrared light does not pass through glass... so using this device through windows will be impossible. The second, and arguably better, but much pricier version is what's called a "Starlight scope" (or light-amplification device). It takes what very dim light may be present and intensifies it until it's visible. This is what the military generally uses... and when you see the green imagery on-screen in movies or TV standing in for "night vision" devices, well... that's because the light-amplification system naturally shows a green tinted image. The military prefers starlight scopes over IR because with an IR camera, you can see the source of any IR light... it's basically a bit "here I am, shoot me!" sign. NOT good. (To see this in action, sorta-kinda... watch the movie "Predator 2." There's a sequence in that film where commandos using IR night-vision are hunting the Predator, and he simply switches his own camera to show IR, and thus easily defeats all the commandos!) But for routine use, either inside a darkened house or outdoors (but never through glass, remember!), IR night vision is generally perfectly acceptable. ************************************************ As an aside, animals which can see in the infrared range this device puts out include: 1) Snakes: Pit vipers, rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, copperheads, pythons, boa constrictors 2) Fish: zebrafish, salmon, guppies, green swordtails, goldfish, piranha, tilapia, cichlids, and carp (also, sort of related, mantis shrimp and bullfrogs) 3) Insects: black fire beetles, rose butterflys, mosquitos, golden birdwing butterflys, kissing bugs, and bed bugs 4) Mammals: vampire bats, and... yes... DOGS ************************************************ So, now you know what this really is, what it does... and what it's NOT useful for (for example, using it to observe bats in caves, or wolves in the woods, isn't a great idea!), let's talk about what it IS good for. It's great for observing night-time activity in the woods in general (apart from the creatures listed above) and in particular for deer, rabbits, birds, and the like. It's also great for finding your way around in a dark room where you don't necessarily want to turn on the lights. And most of all, it's useful for taking videos and digital photos of subjects in the (visible to humans) "dark." That's really what this is designed for. It's a high-powered (relatively speaking, at least) IR light source (the right-hand front lens) and a pretty sensitive IR camera (with a zoom feature and... manual only... focusing) (the left-hand front lens). On the rear, there's a shrouded display screen with optics which allow you to comfortably look at that lense, even though it's close to your eyes, as if it were at a distance of significantly further away. BUT... it's not a stereoscopic image. It's a simple 2D image, with no ability to judge depth. Thus, it's literally NOT "binoculars." I like it. I will no doubt get plenty of use out of it. But as what it really is... an infrared camera and spotlight combo with private viewing capability. If you know what it really is, and what it's really good for, and if you buy it for that purpose, you'll be fully satisfied, I'm certain. But I still want to eventually get my hands on a true ambient-light-amplification ("starlight") night vision system, too. ... show more

  • They work well, but not for longer range pinpoint precision!
I originally decided to get this pair of night vision binoculars for the zoom and video functionality in the dark. I wanted to be able to see the creatures around my yard at night and also try to figure out if there are still opossums under my house, because I want to close off the opening that they came through. I was also looking forward to using them during the day at the archery range. The first thing that I found out is that the night vision binoculars need 8 AA batteries to run, fortunately I have allot of rechargeable batteries at home so that wasn't a problem. Next insert the included TF Card. After that it's ready to go. I highly suggest reading the manual since the options are actually confusing, especially getting IR to stay off during the day, it's not pleasant to be watching something in color and then all the sudden the device switches to black and white. To figure that out you need to read the manual, but it would be much nicer to have a button specifically for day or night mode or have it in the menu options. For watching critters at night the device works well, I wasn't able to see the opossums under my house which is probably a good thing. As for the day mode, you can certainly use it like binoculars and watch creatures scurrying about. I also noticed since it has the screen it doesn't make me feel nauseas, regular binoculars make me feel nausea when I look through them for periods of time so I've switched to scopes. At the archery range I was shooting from 70 meters, through the device I was able to see the target clearly but not the arrows. I'm not sure if the device actually works clearly up-to the 1312 feet listed, that's literally over 400 meters so I should of easily been able to see something on a target at 70 meters. So it is certainly lacking if you want to see something small with pinpoint precision from a distance. Overall interesting night vision binoculars, they seem well made and functional for certain uses. I'll have to keep using my scopes for archery, but I'll use the night vision binoculars for watching the creatures scurrying about at night. ... show more
