I was pleasantly surprised at how well you could see in pitch black. The unit is easy to use I have not taken video, but I've taken some pictures and they came out great. I got a separate infrared flashlight and it doubled the range. Can't beat this for the money!

For a first time user who is 12 yrs old or younger these glasses are cool. The recording feature is 'iffy' and you are basically introducing them to night vision. If they were 16 yrs and older then a more sophisticated and expensive unit is in order. The type that helps you wear goggles on your head and use hands-free is a strong contender for the next set.
