I was very impressed with this paste. I usually use texture paste for dry wall but that tends to chip and flake easy. What I appreciated about this modeling paste was the viscosity and the ability to build up 3D texture on my canvas. I am letting it dry more before I paint it but I will buy again. It is a bit pricey but for the effectiveness I will buy again but a bigger container. I used this on a 48x36 canvas and used the entire smaller jar.

The amount you get for the price of this modeling paste is hard to argue with, and I actually use this quite often. The important thing is knowing what you’re buying. This is a fairly thin modeling paste, not the dense, heavy-bodied type you’d use straight from the container to build substantial 3D textured wall art or layer over sculptures. On its own, I like it for light impasto painting, as it creates a moderate, obvious texture, for base coats, and for mixing with acrylic paint to thicken the paint a bit as well as lighten it into a pastel. It mixes quite smoothly and doesn’t require gobs of paint to get a good l, solid, more pastel color. My favorite way to use it is for mixing with other ingredients such as sand to create realistic, physically and visually textured beach scenes or with tiny seed beads for an intentional bubble look. With the right color, plus the seed beads, you get a candy coated look. It’s excellent for realistic sand. Add as much or as little sand as you wish and if you don’t want a bright white sand, add unbleached titanium or Paynes gray to get a volcanic beach look. For heavier work, I modify mine with loads of marble powder and methyl cellulose, though it still doesn’t come close to high end brands like Golden or Liquitex, though it isn’t labeled “heavy” so I can’t complain too much. I often will add in a scoop into joint compound depending on what I’m making to get the color closer to white rather than use gobs of heavy body paint. Even thickened, I don’t expect to actually model anything with it. It’s more of a light texturing medium. You can’t beat the price and if you’re willing to get a large bad of marble dust and it doesn’t take a lot of methyl cellulose, you can thicken it up pretty well. I debated on what to rate this, but ultimately went with 4 stars because 1. It’s useful and super versatile 2. the price is a huge game changer 3. I use a LOT of this and I’m surprised how long it’s lasted. 4. the consistency is smooth. 5. it mixes well with just about anything and I genuinely use it frequently. Just be aware of its limitations before buying as the price will suck you in. If you want the super thick, heavy sculptural texture straight from the container, you’re going to have to spend quite a bit more on a higher quality paste. If you want an affordable, versatile medium and don’t mind modifying it with marbling powders, methyl cellulose and other thickening agents when necessary, this is an excellent value. It’s great for those who have never worked with modeling paste before or who have once or twice and enjoyed it, and want a large sized amount for an affordable price. It holds up well from experience thus far and again, you can’t beat the price for the size of the bucket.
