Every now and then, amidst all the inferior Chinese junk being sold on Amazon, you stumble across something that completely blows you away. This little inverter generator does that to me. Does it have the same quality as a Honda? Probably not, but it's not far behind, has comparable features, and is only a third of the price. In all honesty, if not for branding, I probably wouldn't be able to tell one from the other. It really is that good, with none of that chintzy feeling so many of the Chinese brands on Amazon have. The engine is smooth and quiet. It starts on the first or second pull every single time. The plastic is high quality, the panels fit together perfectly, and the whole thing is insulated from vibration and noise in all the right places. The engine runs cool even during the middle of a summer afternoon. I've had it running an air conditioner, a space heater, a hot plate, a little George Foreman grill, and all manner of battery chargers. It handled each without a hiccup (although not all at the same time) I've yet to max it out with any single.appliance. The limiting factor is the drop cord as much as anything else -I have a 75 foot 12/3 rated at 15 amps/1875W... no way was I going to drop down to a 10g and spend $150 on a freaking extension cord. I changed the oil after 5 hours at 25% load and again after another 5 hours at 50% load and examined the oil for anything metallic-- nothing. Just clean looking oil. I got it for only $299, after the seller's $100 off coupon... that makes it one quarter the price of a Honda. You could literally buy four of these for the price of a single Honda EU2200. I really couldn't be happier with it and it's exceeded my expectations in every possible way. ... show more

    • Essential household item for power outages and other emergencies
Update: Great Warranty Service A few weeks back the DC output on my unit failed, partly my fault, and it no longer turns off. I was using the DC switch to turn ON & OFF the DC light that I was using, thus rendering the unit unserviceable for me. I sent NexPow a E-Mail requesting help and they responded the very next day with a request for my shipping address. Two weeks later a new unit arrived and tested 100%. That is what I call great service and NexPow does indeed honor the Warranty. I have also discovered that the NEXPOW YP-178W will not accept a charge if the display reads 100% even if the battery has only 78% Charge. Lithium Polymer batteries have a self discharge rate of 3% to 5% each month and after several months of nonuse the battery will be at a lower level of charge than is indicated on the % charge display. The % charge display on my portable battery packs only track charging and discharging and do not respond to the self discharge on the battery. So keep this in mind, if you are charging your NEXPOW YP-178W to 100% and letting it set on the shelf for a few months before needing it. After 4 months my NEXPOW YP-178W required a very short discharge to 99% before it would accept any charging and then it required 23 Watt Hours to recharge back to 100%. This amount of charging would indicate that the battery was only 88% charged but still indicated 100%. Other battery backs that I have tested operate the same way but some of the others will accept a charge when the battery needs it with the display indicating 100%. The NEXPOW YP-178W is very powerful for its size and is not that expensive. Get yours before the discounts disappear. Operation is as follows: DC & USB Power: >> Press Power Button -- Battery % Charge Display turns on with DC & USB Power AC Power: >>> Press Power Button until AC Power Light turns ON and DC & USB turns Off - AC is Modified Sine Wave Light: >>> Press Power Button two times VERY Rapidly to turn ON or Turn OFF Light can be either ON or OFF with either DC & USB power or AC Power OFF: >>> Press Power Button & Turn OFF Battery % Charge Display Charging: >> If the Battery % Charge Display is not flashing it is not Charging I purchased the NEXPOW 178Wh Portable Power Station on October 19, 2019 and it arrived a few days later VIA UPS. It has passed all of my tests. My home is located near the edge of my electric service area and it gets several power outages each year. My wife has some health issues and does not have good vision. Light in our bathroom has become an issue for us even in the daytime because it does not have any outside windows. The NEXPOW 178Wh Portable Power Station is my answer to this challenge. I purchased some 10 Watt LED lights a few years back and they need 10V - 30VDC to operate. The DC (12.0v to 16.8V) output on the NEXPOW is really great for powering these lights. I also have some USB LED lights that work well at night. The included 2 Watt LED light has 100-200 Lumens that has a broad coverage area that is very useful and it will run for a long time. The units small size is just right for my bedside table. If you need good lighting in a large room, a 15W 1600 Lum LED light in a table lamp does a fine job and will run for 4 hours. Recharging by AC, Solar & Car will take about 5-6 hours. No Auto shutoff after 6 hours with only usb test meter and multimeter connected to DC output was observed. No auto shutoff is beneficial because some of the USB devices draw very little power as they near full charge and would get turned off before full charge. I have also discovered that several pieces of my test equipment can be powered by the AC output of the NEXPOW and now they much more useful as I don't need to look for a active AC plug when I want to use some of them. The small size is an advantage when you are adding it to your test set. The metal case makes it more durable than the plastic found on most of the other power boxes. Of course, it also powers all of the other small items and can be charged while powering your equipment. As I use it, I am discovering just how useful it has become. I purchase two DC jumper cables to use with the NEXPOW. The 1st one is a 5.5X2.1mm to Anderson Powerpole to connect my solar panel and other charging equipment. Updated 9/8/2020 - i let this sit for three months until today. we have a surprise record early snow storm and expect to lose power at some point in the next day. so know was the time to pull them out to be prepared for what is likely to come. i purchased this and another, different type just to power my router and modem set ups. as said after charging it last time to 100% i expected it to discharge a little bit but it didn't at all, still reads out 100%. of my four battery units i only have one other that stores power so well over time. also before putting it away earlier this summer i experienced zero problems, zero defects. it has performed better than expected so far. TIP - i have four backup batteries in total. all different capacities and from different manufacturers. the one thing they all share in common is that none of the power supplies are marked? they all fit each other but with different electrical input rates you don't want to mix and match ever. to get around that confusion i just wrote on a sticky note which was for which and then taped the 'labels' to the power supplies. thankfully now no more guessing. i hope that helps someone no matter what brand of back up battery they go with. first we have a backup gas generator for our house but it is very large and not something i'd use unless food in the freezers started to thaw out. so for short outages it would be nice especially now to be able to access internet throughout our household. be it for normal wifi use or just to use alexa enabled devices. problem is both the router and modem have to be plugged in to a standard wall outlet to function. that is why i went looking for this in the first place. price for what you get is very good compared to others sold here. i was happy with what arrived in the mail. it came well packaged, protected without any defects whatsoever. it comes with about any adapter you could think of from car, usb, usb c, dc in/out, etc. so you can power all your things without buying anything more. to charge it either use the power brick or your car's power outlet. or the third option the ability to be charged using a solar panel. as for size it is end to end the size of two cans of soda. as for width it is only a bit larger than those same cans of soda pop. it looks and feels well made. it is surprisingly light for the storage capacity. you can use more than one usb 'out' at a time to power things. the seller is very good to communicate with. i had an question on arrival that i couldn't figure out. when you press the power button the first time just long enough to turn the power % display on? then you are only powering up the usb ports. to turn on the pronged electric outlet you need to press and hold the power button longer until the large light in front glows bright green. then the usb ports are disabled and the pronged outlet is turned on. both will not power on at the same time. when done with the unit make sure it is fully powered off or it will drain down all the way as i found out quickly. press the power button until there is nothing showing on the % display and the green light is off as well. as for charging time from zero to 100% it charges very quickly unlike older battery back ups i've had. while the manual states it takes 5.5 hours to charge using the brick it doesn't even come close and that is great! for the size i was blown away that it only took about 25 minutes for a complete charge, again from zero. as for lasting power that all depends on the draw. so everyone's end times will vary. related due to the internal safety switch if you go over the max stated 150W it won't work. so do know what you are going to power and what it draws before ordering this. the only issues i had were very minor and specifically related to the instructions. the bit about going from ports out to standard electric outlet out and how to get the one on? and then the incorrect overly long stated charging times. wrong in a good way as it charges significantly faster than the manual states. all in all i am very happy with both the device and the quick response from the seller to my question. the size makes it about as easy to take with you if out and about as you can get. plus everything you'd ever need to go with this is included. i wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to family or friends! ... show more
