  • Better than Minnkota
Pattern Name: Motor Style: 62lb Thrust
This motor is fantastic. It has great power for pushing my 14 foot tri hull, fiberglass boat. The only thing to be aware of is the fuse that comes along with this unit. The contacts are open to the environment which lens itself to becoming easily shorted out which I did on the other side of the lake. I didn’t realize that was the problem and was stuck for a while. I would suggest replacing it with a 60 amp breaker available through Amazon. overall it’s got power. It’s easy to use, and appears to be reliable customer service is helpful and better than the competition. It has a two year warranty and you don’t even have to register it and the price is much lower than the competition. I could not be more pleased. ... show more

  • Runs Smooth and Quiet With Plenty of Power
Pattern Name: Motor Style: 36lb Thrust
I have been using this motor on my Sea Eagle 385fta Fast Track Angler inflatable kayak for over a year now. It is powered by a Dakota LiPo 54A battery. With this combo, I can cruise of and on at medium speed all day for two whole days without running out of power. The Newport motor is a couple pounds heavier than what is recommended by Sea Eagle but the battery weighs a fraction of what a standard marine battery weighs so that more than makes up for the motor being 2-3 pounds over the recommended weight. The one thing I would change on the design is are the clamp faces. The metal is very durable but it is also too smooth. It needs to have a better grip on the surface that contacts the transom. this is especially true if you use the Sea Eagle side mount transom with it's heavy duty vinyl vertical plank. On more than one occasion after tightening the hand knobs as far as possible, the round discs on the opposite side of the clamps would slide out of place during a moderate turn. Had I not been paying close attention, the entire motor could have fallen off and been lost in the bottom of the lake or maybe even capsized me like a giant anchor. I have since remedied this issue by adding a thin layer of inner tube rubber on both sided of the transom which greatly improves the clamps' grip. It would also be good if the throttle handle extension had more resistance when it was extended or contracted. As it is designed, it slides in and out with just the bare minimum pressure, even if unintentional. This was also corrected (at least temporarily) with some clever use of thread tape but it required some disassembly which very well might have voided the warranty. Even with these relatively minor issues, the Newport Kayak motor had been a solid performer and I expect to get many more years of use out of it. ... show more

  • Good Value/Good Performance
Pattern Name: Motor Style: 55lb Thrust
Purchased this 55 Lb. thrust trolling motor to replace a MK brand that was no longer working after many years of service. Was stunned at the current replacement cost of a new MK so ordered this Newport Vessels brand. It is being used on a 12 foot alum. wide-transom canoe with a Group 24 deep cycle battery. Used it 2 times so far. Once on a tidal river and then a lake. (2 passengers). It performed very well and never lacked for speed even when up against head winds and tidal currents. It was used at speeds 2 and 3 for the most part with occasional bursts in 4 and 5. In speeds 1-3 it's a trolling motor, at 4 it's cruising and at 5 it becomes more like an outboard motor! She flies! Fairly quiet, but gets a bit louder as the speeds go up. Motor runs well but not as smooth and refined as the MK did. Seems to use a little more power than the MK, but the MK had slow- start and maximizer circuitry. Battery was down to about 65% after just under 2 hours but that was fighting winds and opposing current about 1/2 the time. Never felt any reduction in speed/power. Don't count on the built-in LED battery indicator as it was still showing 4 out of 5 lights. Overall, a decent motor and a good value. Can't comment on durability/reliability just yet until it sees more use. ... show more

  • Rivals more expensive brand
Pattern Name: Motor Style: 46lb Thrust
The unit seems to be solidly constructed using quality materials. The clamping features are solid and work well. It also has a metal propeller that's easy to remove in case of weed clog. The unit operates quietly and shifts thru the speeds reassuringly. Led lights show usage level accurately and the telescoping throttle is convenient. Would definitely purchase again, just make sure of your usage parameters. ... show more

  • Great motor for the money
Pattern Name: Motor Style: 55lb Thrust
Had this exact same motor bought used for many many years. Before I bought this new one, I had bought one used so I didnt know how much use it had endured before I bought it. But I used it for several years and liked it. This summer i dropped it and broke it where the shaft meets the propeller housing. I couldn't fix it so I went shopping for a new one. I wanted the same 55lb thrust as my old motor. A Minn Kota 55lb transom mount motor was $319. Then I found this Newport 55lb thrust that was the same model as my old one for $199 on amazon. A couple weeks later I went on amazon to buy it and it was $169 on a black friday deal!! Bought it and used it the day after i got it. GREAT MOTOR!! Cruised around the lake all day and only used about half the charge on my battery and very fast. Pushed my 14ft aluminum on high , which is an old heavy boat, like nothing all day. Buy this motor and you won't regret it. ... show more

  • Trolling motor
Pattern Name: Motor Style: 36lb Thrust
Delivery was pretty fast and motor is great. It works smooth and easy and gets you where you wanna go. It's not very heavy and is very affordable compared to some. Great little motor and would recommend to others.
