I've been meaning to cut the cable cord for about a year and a half. There was a small pre-existing antenna mounted to the chimney of my house, but giving that a try I could only receive 4 or 5 channels, and none of the major networks, even though their HD broadcast towers are only about 9 miles away. I bought this antenna as an inexpensive replacement - I couldn't see any need for a motorized antenna. The assembly instructions are a bit confusing - just watch the video posted by the manufacturer. Despite what the box said, I did receive the 40' coax antenna cable. I discarded the J-post and mounting bracket, since there was already a mounting pole firmly attached to my chimney. The tooth bracket which comes as part of the antenna attaches easily a firmly to what would clearly be a range of pole sizes. I swapped the antenna coax for the cable input line, and voila! I was now receiving somewhere between 45 - 50 channels, including all of the major stations in HD. I had pointed the antenna in the correct direction (they major stations are all in a 7 degree arc from my house) and see no need to adjust it. I will shortly be able to cut my cable bill by 75% while getting 4x the guaranteed throughput for internet-only service. It's a winner! ... show more

    • I'm Impressed with This OTA Antenna

OTA = Over The Air... verses cable, satellite, streaming, etc. I was recently a tech with a very popular satellite TV company. We also installed OTA antennas and often had to struggle to get OTA channels to come in well when the location is 50+ miles away from big city TV broadcast towers. This antenna seems to be a very good one... putting it together might be a bit confusing for some, but so far it seems worth the trouble. Now this product does NOT have a built-in amplifier (but that's one of the reasons I like it). Sure, a built-in amp might draw in a few more channels (or make some a little more clear) but it also means it will need to plug-in to electric power somewhere. I am 45 miles away from several TV towers and this manufacturer recommends trying the antenna indoors before installing it outdoors (which is always smart). I picked up over 40 channels indoors and the picture was perfect on most of them. I haven't installed it outdoors yet and that's the only reason I gave it 3 stars for ease of installation... but I will update this post once I do have it installed. I expect over 100 channels but it's really not about HOW MANY channels you pick-up, it's HOW MANY CHANNELS YOU WANT that you pick up. I happen to know that living outside of Houston TX there are only about 20-30 local stations that I actually want... many of the others are foreign channels or shopping networks that I would never watch. Even the best OTA TV antenna can't help signals much if you are 200+ miles from no where. But so far I am pretty happy with this product. I bought the full-install package that came with the mounting pole, brackets, and 40 feet of cable. I was pleasantly surprised they even included things like "pitch-patch' which are little tar squares to be placed between the roof and the mounting plate screws before it is tightened down. There are even mounting clips (and a few zip ties) to help with running the cable from the antenna to the splitter (which is also included with the mounting kit). The only thing that could make this better is a having a few more specifics on antenna assembly, so you KNOW exactly which antenna sections connect to the others and which end faces which. Also, there were no instructions for the mount kit but other than a wide variety of screws the kit looks fairly simple. ... show more

After reading claims of manufacturers and reviewers chose this antenna. Put this on the roof of my front porch not very high, got all the channels I wanted (CBS-NBC-FOX) more than happy with the picture quality, plus all the other channels received. Must say after reading about where to aim the antenna started to doubt my purchase after reading expert advice and what they had to say about this antenna. If I had read their opinion earlier I might not have bought it and spent a lot more money on their recommendation. The only thing I did heed was to get a 5g filter (it does help) because I have a cell tower right in front of me. The big name more expensive antennas may be better I'll never know, most of the time I will be streaming but free sports I can get its football season!!! I've wanted an antenna to receive local stations here in the Tampa Bay area. Especially during the storm season when the chances of loosing power, internet and/or cable are higher. I ordered this on prime day for 40% off and figured if it didn't work for my needs i could always return it. I put it together and set it on the floor in the loving room and connected it to the TV, after a scan i was getting about 80ish channels. So I figured I would proceed with the install. I climbed up in the attic and mounted it to a truss using the supplied bracketry and hardware. Pointed it towards Tampa and I reused the coaxial cable I already had in the attic from when I had cable (I stream all TV content now). After a quick channel re-scan I was up to 120 channels!! We are located approximately 30 miles line of sight from a good sized metro area with numerous TV antennas, many of which are located on significantly elevated property. The antenna is located in the attic of a new home. It replaced an antenna we tried first, but which had poor reception. Reception with this antenna is better, but not great. However, TV Fool indicates good reception should only be received from 5 stations with an attic antenna. Both antennas were $50 or less. Both antennas are directional. In our previous home in FL, we had a $150 omni directional antenna mounted outdoors which received about 10 stations from 90 miles distant. Not sure if that $150 antenna would work better here. As to assembly, this was best accomplished by looking at the picture and was pretty straight-forward. Instructions were not much help. One small aluminum tube was damaged and nearly broke in half upon receipt (inside square cross piece). Seller was notified and promptly sent a replacement part. ... show more
