  • A nearly 700% improvement in bandwidth!
Our home has been suffering from weak wifi for years. We have FIOS 200M speed wifi using the original Verizon combination modem/router. Marginal reception at far end of house and no wifi outside. A couple years ago I added a name brand wifi "extender" but that did little to improve bandwidth. Now that we have multiple phones, multiple laptops, a smart TV (which would drop wifi signal occasionally, even though it is only 25 feet from router) we decided we needed to do something different/better. When the grandkids come over with their devices, they constantly get dropped form the wifi. So, after research, it seems this ORBI was the best quality/price point for us - maybe even a little overkill on bandwidth power, given our home is only 2K square feet. But what a difference it has made. As the pictures indicate, we were getting a mere 15Mbps on the old wifi at the far end of the house (and at best about 40Mbps in the same room as the router). The ORBI mesh network now gives us well more than 100Mbps - a nearly 700% improvement in bandwidth! Now I assume if I upgraded my FIOS service all these numbers would continue to ramp up - but given our use, we don't need to do so. As far as setup goes, it is pretty straight forward, assuming everything goes according to plan. There's no manual or instructions, other than to tell you to download the app, and then the app will walk you through the setup. In my case, the ORBI router had trouble getting internet connection when plugged into the combined Verizon router/modem - and the "help" screen merely tells you to make sure you connect to the modem directly, and not the router, which is not a possibility in my setup. The Netgear website was no help either. After about an hour, I was about to pack it up and return it, when all of a sudden, it connected... who knows? Anyway, after that, it was easy-peasy. Put the two satellites around the house, plug them in, and they connect directly without any intervention. Now, about some of the comments I read in the prior reviews... It does appear correct that the device connection to the mesh network does not automatically optimize for strongest signal source. One of my satellites is iiterally 8 inches from the smart TV (with up to 125Mbps speed), but the TV wants to connect to the main router upstairs at about 60Mbps. Now that's not a problem in this case, because I'm getting great streaming throughput to the TV. I originally put the other satellite in the dining room, with the kitchen between it and the location of the router, and it does appear to impact throughput (appliances seem to degrade it). I moved it just a few feet, and that seemed to solve the issue. Walls do not seem to bother throughput. The speed at the far end of the house (through 4 walls) is just as good as in the room with the router. Ditto for multiple floors. Related, and this was important to us, we get plenty of bandwidth outside. On the deck off the kitchen, just as good as inside. Out by the pool, about 50Mbps. I even took a walk this morning with music streaming on the phone and it didn't switch over to phone data until about 1,200 feet from the house. So, for our situation, this was a near perfect solution. ... show more

  • Amazing Wifi
I like you, read many, many reviews before I make a purchase, especially on a higher dollar purchase. Do yourself a favor and find Zekes review and read it. His review is what sold me and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. My house is around the 3150 sqft, 2 levels and this Orbi system is probably over kill since it says up to 7500 sqft coverage. I have the main router on the first floor in the office by the cable modem and 2 satellites on the second floor at opposite ends of the house. I pay for 600/26mbps cable internet and now am getting every bit of it and some! My old system was a tri-band Linksys system that was a few years old. I could barely get half of what I was paying for on a good day. I had a Linksys extender upstairs, we'd be lucky if we got 100mbps up there. What really annoyed me was the constant dropping of devices, switching from 5ghz to 2.4ghz to the extender. It was almost constant, smart TV would lose signal or buffer. It was ridiculous. I finally pulled the plug and bought this system which I feel is middle of the road for the Netgear Orbi mesh wifi 6 systems. I mean there is WiFi 6E out but I feel this is a great compromise and way cheaper than the latest greatest system that our devices aren't even capable to take full advantage of. You have to download the Netgear Orbi app on your smartphone to set it up. I felt it was straightforward and very easy to set up. You can change your new Orbi wifi name to your old name and password and your devices will connect automatically after set up. You have to set up a Netgear account and verify your email, typical stuff if you don't already have an account. I think the router and satellites look very nice, kind of contemporary looking. They come very well packaged in the box. They have a QR barcode on the bottom as well as plastic sleeves on the router and sattelites which you will need to scan during your initial setup. The speed is amazing and no dropping of devices at all. I have had it for going on 3 weeks and continue to be impressed. The worst speed is in my living room which is about 50 feet from the main router. It's all wireless so it is to be expected to not get the full advertised speed the further away from the router you go. Not complaining at all, it's still over 500mbps. I have the other satellites in my bedroom and my son's bedroom. When I check the speed up there I usually get 670 or higher, it blows my mind! Remember my old Linksys extender I barely got 100mbps. So major, major vast improvements all around. The most important to me was no dropping and switching to other channels constantly. Do yourself a favor and buy it! You won't be disappointed. If something changes I'll update this review, hopefully not!! ... show more

  • I have finally found the solution !!!!
For many years I have struggled to have a good WIFI across my apartment, as neither WIFI extender nor powerline extensor did the job. I had 300 at the modem and 40 at the living room (all brick walls). After spending a lot of money I went after the one considered the best for brick walls and I was pleasantly surprised , I have 300 in all rooms, always. It is one of the most costly equipment but worth every penny. Very, very pleased. Rodney ... show more

  • This system is amazing!
This triband system to me is incredible!! Setup was easy, takes longer than your typical Eero style, which I was used to previously, but for the cost and the performance it is well worth it! Had to call customer service after I installed an Arris sb8200 because it wasn't connecting to the internet for me. Customer service was very helpful and had me disconnect my main computer from the modem and only have the Orbi connected, once that happened and I power cycled my new modem it has been running like a champ! ... show more

  • Fabulous
Great coverage and easy setup. Transfers you from once device to the other seamlessly. Looking to purchase another device for a family member who as a hodgepodge of repeaters and extenders over the home electrical cables - I’m sure this will do the trick! Have not experienced any downside.
