I wanted to extend WiFi to a detached garage without digging a trench or messing with powerline networking, which was a nightmare in the past. The Orbi did the trick. I have it sitting under the back deck, which is close enough to the house to pick up the main WiFi signal, and close enough to the garage for its signal to reach all the way to the far end. It's been less than a year, but so far it has proven reliable, even in sub-zero temperatures. It is not as fast as WiFi inside the house, but more than fast enough for our needs. As a bonus, WiFi now works well throughout the back yard, where it used to drop off a few feet from the house. Set-up was mostly straightforward. We don't have other Orbi devices, and we have it using the same SSID as the main WiFi router. One nit: It seems to confuse the Xfinity app, which regularly reports that existing devices are newly connecting -- often the same device, multiple times, weeks apart. A minor annoyance for now.

We were looking for a wifi extender to expand coverage on our property to out barns and grounds. Orbi was easy enough to install and setup, connected first time we tried. However it seems to lose the connection despite being within 30 feet of router. Not a reliable wifi extender, we have to reset or restart Orbi too many times for dropped signal.

Bought this after asking our IT guy what he recommended. He uses the Orbi as his outdoor wifi extension, so I took a chance. Yes, it’s more expensive than others, but I am incredibly pleased so far. It was simple syncing up the Orbi with my Verizon Fios router. It was easy to mount in the garage. The photo shows it with the blue light indicating a solid connection with my router. That light goes off after 3 minutes. I was actually shocked I had enough signal getting to the Orbi to mount it in the garage because I normally have a weak signal there (which is why I purchased this in the first place). Now I have a full wifi connection throughout my yard, pool area, and deck. I’m very pleased so far with the Orbi. It was worth the cost.

I live in a cell signal deadzone in a rural area and these outdoor antennas are a lifesaver to be able to have wifi calling even outside. I actually have two and am dissappointed to see that they are discontinued. I use these with an existing Orbi system so integration was flawless. They are a bit tempermental in the cold, but overall not an issue with how much trouble they save me.

This is a little expensive up front but it works remarkably well, my kids love it and commented on improved coverage (before I even told them it was in operation). I’ve been in IT for ~25 yrs now and this is an excellent solution for home/small office use cases. I already had the Orbi system (RBR50,RBS50) for many reasons (their paid managed firewall service add-on is money well spent FYI) but mostly the system has wireless and wired backhaul options, 5 eth ports per device (no this sat) and easy mobile device management. The Orbi system is the BEST WiFi system I’ve ever used outside of corporate America high dollar enterprise class systems. This add-on outside-rated satellite actually sits inside my house behind a TV near an exterior wall and still pushes over 75MB/s (not mbit/s) to all corners of a 1 Acre property that’s half wooded. This is as good or better than enterprise coverage for a fraction of the price. Some reviews have noted water entry on the power cable port - this aspect appears very well built but again it works well enough with the unit inside the house so why chance water entry at all ?? If you need larger coverage you could easily protect it with a small enclosure (18”W x20” L x 6-8” D) would protect it (under eves on a house, barn or well pump structure etc.) so you would t have to think about it. This solution works well with a litany of real world devices incl. various generation iPads/iPhones/android devices, printers, cameras etc.

As someone who is skeptical about the claims of range on WiFi extenders let me put your mind at ease here… I installed this on my pole barn which is about 200 feet from my house which has the router in the very front of the living room. After spending about 10-15 minutes doing the set-up on my phone in the house connecting it to my router and after another 15 minutes to hang it up outside on the barn I had it connected to my phone, tv and Amazon fire tv stick with not only a good connection but a connection that is just as fast and strong as if I was standing next to the router in the house. Full 4K movies playing on the tv and playing YouTube on my phone and not a single hesitation in loading anything. I am thoroughly impressed and the fact that it’s weatherproof is just amazing. Don’t let the price detour you, if you want quality high speed WiFi from a distance this is the unit you want. Also they are 100% accurate when they say it’s compatible with any router. Could not be happier!
