  • IPERF3 Performance
Style: 1.6Gbps, WiFi 6 Wallplug
I have bought 4 of these so far, and 2 I gave away. I've been using IPERF3 for testing with my pair and decided I wanted to know exactly how much speed I was getting from these. When using just 1 as an AP, I got upwards for 180Mbps. The band steering features seem to be working well, and other 802.11ax features, as I disabled the 2.4Ghz interface and noticed a drop in speed by about 20Mbps. In a test with two extenders forming a wireless bridge, one in AP mode, the other in mesh mode, I noticed slightly higher speeds, as much as 210Mbps (with both laptops wired in to the ethernet ports). These devices work really well in this configuration, which is surprising as both of my laptops have Intel AX201 wifi cards. I was expecting the 1 AP configuration to provide more throughput. The worst configuration was using both in the mesh mode with the main router being a Ubiquiti AP that I have no management access to. In this configuration I was receiving about 40 to 60 Mbps. I believe the Ubiquiti might only support 802.11ac in my test. The downsides are that the web configuration is slow, there's no access for SNMP (as this would be excellent for more network insight), and without proper mesh intelligence the performance could (emphasis on could) be bad for an uninformed consumer. However, the web configuration is really well thought out and guides most general use cases to an optimal solution. I'd recommend the Netgear EAX12 for most home and business installations as I'm rather happy with buying my set. If you lose network access when trying to connect to these devices, try accessing the webpage through IPv6 with the device's built in MAC address. Try opening [ipv6address]/list_extender_device.htm in your web browser (with the square brackets) to see the device. There are websites that convert MAC addresses to IPv6 addresses which should help you get access to the device. ... show more

  • Great Extender Easy to setup and fairly fast connections
Style: 1.8 Gbps, WiFi 6 | Tower
I now have two of these Extenders managing my nearly100 Alexa Devices and they work great. The devices do tend to roam from one router to another, but I can live with that as long as everything is stable. The only thing I don't like is, you can't manage the connected Devices name in the main management app and the Nighthawk app fails to connect to the extender correctly once it is setup. Otherwise, these are a 5 for me. ... show more

  • Works great
Style: 6 Gbps, WiFi 6 | Tower
Needed to extend my wifi. My house is really big, 4 floors. Easy to set up with my router from Verizon. I put in the middle of my house and made the internet circulation alot better. It also has extra ports for you to hard wire gaming concols. This is a great product for a big house or a house with lots of gaming consoles. ... show more

  • Just what we needed.
Style: 6 Gbps, WiFi 6 | Tower
I have the Nighthawk router and needed to extend the range to the other side of our huge house. This thing had enough coverage that we can still get some signal across the street from our property. I would argue it has a better range than the router itself. It's fast, it hooks up and runs very easily. Literally the only drawback is how bloody expensive this thing is. Other than that, it has been a very handy network addition to our house. ... show more

  • Might Work For Others - Useless For Me
Style: 6 Gbps, WiFi 6 | Tower
I bought this to extend a WiFi signal from an older Netgear Router to the other side of our house. The signal from the old router would work, but was slow and spotty at that distance. This unit worked great right out of the box. It extended the signal and seemed to have almost no loss in speed. Very happy But we live on the periphery of the power grid, and have frequent power outages, usually no more than a second or two. Probably once a week or so. After every power failure, the cable modem and older unit come back fine, but this EAX80 flashes a red light on the front panel and just sits there. It isn't until I notice the WiFi speed has dropped back that I know to go reset it, as it's in an inaccessible place where I can't see the red light. As soon as I power cycle it, it comes up running again until the next power failure. If you never have power failures this might be a great product, but for me it only works a few days out of every week. It's probably because it comes up faster than the cable modem, so there is no signal for it to forward. As such I could probably fix it with UPS units on the cable modem, the old router, and this thing. But right now it's pretty much useless I have contacted Netgear Support. Update : After three emails with Tech Support they were still not convinced I either owned one or purchased it properly from Amazon. Gave up. I no longer think the problem is power failures, it just every now and then drops the signal and won't hook back up until you reset it. The concept of having the same Network SSID that you're extending was interesting for me because I have a ReadyShare drive on the main router, and use that to transfer files from one computer to another around the house. Only, with this thing, the ReadyShare only works a very small percentage of the time. Not enough to make it useful anymore. To get around this I shut off the extended and just use the direct 2.4ghz signal, although it's very weak. A problem with the "Same SSID" concept is that when the extender isn't working, you can't tell unless you notice that the WiFi icon has dropped from 4 rings to one. Giving up and storing it in a closet somewhere ... show more

  • Excellent Product.
Style: 6 Gbps, WiFi 6 | Tower
After trying other plug in range extenders and having issues and having to constantly having to unplug and replug. I decided to try this unit I'm very pleased. Connection on both 2.4 and 5 works extremely well and range works excellent very happy I went with this unit. It arrived in excellent condition and set up was pretty easy with the Netgear nighthawk app which I already had due to my roughter being a nighthawk mesh router but it was simple and so far it has a good strong connection on both bands. I do recommend this item. ... show more
