I have a typical residential home and needed to improve wireless coverage in a remote area, where wireless coverage was nominal. I researched extenders and decided on the EAX80 to complement my first-generation Nighthawk (R8000) router that manages about 30 devices; some are wired but most are wireless. Although I’ve used Netgear products for home networking since home networking became available, this is the first time I’ve ever reviewed a Netgear product. I have Xfinity gigabit service and I use a Netgear CM1150V cable modem (to avoid a $14 monthly rental fee). Setup of the EAX80 (as an access point via an ethernet cable) was straightforward because I followed the directions. I also checked for and applied a firmware update that was available; I did not finalize settings until I applied the firmware update. I also tried the wireless connectivity between the EAX80 and R8000 but noticed slower speeds (as the instructions explain because both devices share the radio frequencies), so I settled on the ethernet cable (CAT5E) because I prefer a hard-wired connection to improve performance. (I also wired my home several years ago, so I had ethernet cables on the opposite side of the house.) My newer wireless devices (such as my Samsung S21) immediately took advantage of the wi-fi 6 capability and I nearly tripled the speed I get when connected wirelessly to the EAX80 versus when I’m connected wirelessly to the R8000. To date, I’ve had no problems with wireless devices not being able to connect to the EAX80. Based on the EAX80’s performance, I’ll upgrade to the RAX200 when necessary (and when the cost comes down) so that I have wi-fi 6 wireless capability on the opposite side of the house. For now, however, everything is working as advertised and I highly recommend the EAX80.

This extender is fantastic! Not only did it install in a minute using the WPS buttons, but I was able to put the extender in a bedroom that wasn't in the line of sight of the main Netgear router and it had no problems at all getting the signal. My speed on my cell phone went from about 50 to over 300 on the 5g setting. My streaming video on the bedroom TV is now getting an excellent signal and no more pixelating. Every device on this end of the house is getting super fast speeds now. I should have bought this one a long time ago. Highly recommended. What makes it even sweeter is the sale price, great deal. Just a quick note, it has no ability to hang anywhere so it needs to stand up on a flat surface.
