  • Best electronic purchase I've ever made
Let me make this clear - your results will likely not match mine. I live in a rural area with line-of-sight to an ATT tower. I was using the LTE Router+Modem combo from AT&T and averaged 15-25Mbps down. After sometime I switched to OTRMobile (3rd party ATT reseller). I first tried the LB1200 and was getting 20-30Mbps down. I upgraded through OTR to an ATT Velocity 2 (forced upgrade) which averaged 20-40Mbps down. While this was an improvement, the Velocity 2 has no native way to tie into an existing network. I purchased the MR1100 and a Meshforce M3 mesh network together. There has been a lot of discussions online about using the MR1100 with a router and what will and will not work. At least in my scenario, it does work. IP Passthrough will not and you have to live with being double NAT'd - which shouldn't be an issue at all for the average person. You will see a slight uptick in MS so if you have a young gamer at home this might be problematic for them. With all that said, I now average 90-150Mbps usually around 100Mbps. This has been a lifesaver for me and I am able to work from home while the kids watch movies and play games. The Nighthawk costs a lot because it truly does offer superior performance. Just keep in mind that the Nighthawk MR1100 does not have a great long-distance WiFi ability. I would suggest purchasing the very inexpensive Meshforce M3 mesh network to pair with it since I can confirm it works for me. If you do that, make sure you get into your Nighthawk and disable WiFi - that should really be it. Then plug the ethernet from the Nighthawk to your Meshforce base and you're golden. ... show more

  • I would not recommend buying "Renewed" products.
I purchased this Renewed product and several months later is began shutting itself down. I did some research and found it has been a common problem. I speculate the unit was returned because it was faulty and it was not repaired for this specific problem. This also happened with another product that I purchased Renewed. Good luck trying to find out how to address this with Amazon on their web site. Not worth it. I won't by any more Renewed products. Can't comment on the Nighthawk otherwise. ... show more

  • As described; non-retail packaging. Put SIM in, ran config, and up and running in a few minutes
Product was easy to use. Note that this did NOT come with the quick setup guide or install guide, but those are easy to find online. The battery, back cover, and charge cable all appeared new. The unit is used, but in good shape, and appears to be fully functional. Note that I did not do my research; this uses a Micro SIM, and I had a Nano SIM. A quick trip to Dollar General for a $1 bring your own SIM package from one of the prepaid providers allowed me to use my existing SIM in the SIM slot. Also, a bit of advice - take a pic of the info under the battery before you install the battery, so you don't have to take the battery out to get the wifi network password like I did. You'll need to be connected to the device by Wifi to do the setup, so you'll need the default network password. But if you forget - the device will draw power from the power cord with the battery out. I paid a little more than I wanted to pay to upgrade my wireless, but without wired internet available to me, this is my best option. I am using AT&T on an old unlimited plan that allows hotspot devices, so it's effective for us. My signal strength is around -99dBm, and I'm getting around 45 Mbps Down and 8 Mbps up. I'm roughly 2.5 miles from the closest AT&T tower. I stood this network up alongside my other device, the ZTE MF279, and it's showing -101 dBM, and around 18 Mbps Down, and 2 Mbps up - connected to the same network, plan, and tower. So far, I am pleased. I also really like the form factor and sturdiness of the Nighthawk as compared to the MF279; it's more compact, and feels sturdier in hand than the other one - and it really holds the battery securely, which is nice when the device is actually MOBILE. I'll update as I get more experience with it. I have bought the Netgear MIMO flat panel antenna to use with this device, if needed, as well as an external Yagi antenna; we'll see what improvement I am able to get... ... show more

  • Not great but works when you have limited options
I bought a second home in a very rural area. No other internet providers rural. This box works some of the time great and some of the time not good. It's 50/50. Also does not charge with the cord they send which is insane. I'm on my 2nd box in a few months. The first one stopped charging all together and was overheating. So all in all, it's not great but if it's your only option it's better than nothing! ... show more
