  • Great all-in-one for DSL users
Purchased this after doing a lot of research. It was the best bang for it's buck. Lot's of features. The average use probably won't use them all but Computer Specialists like me will enjoy what this router has to offer. Here are my thoughts. Wireless signal strength is amazing on 2.4Ghz range. Reaches to my back drive way (about 150ft from where the router sits in the house). I disabled the 5Ghz Range for now because it's doesn't transmit very far like 2.4Ghz. 5Ghz wifi transmits data faster at the cost of range where 2.4Ghz transmits data a little slower but can go farther. 5Ghz it meant for inside home use only or an apartment use. Since we take are laptops and mobile devices in the yard It was better to stick with the 2.4Ghz range. If I ever put any network devices(game consoles/wifi desktops/wifi printers) on the 2nd floor I'll activate the 5Ghz wifi for them since they will always stay in one spot and close proximity of the Router. Setting up the DSL modem portion was easy. Setup is in the same matter as a router and DSL modem in bridge mode (except in this case the modem is built into the router). I have Verizon DSL and I just typed in my username and password for my DSL and it configured the rest. There is still a WAN port on this router so It can be used with Cable modems. The WAN port can also be used with DSL modems for those who have a service that isn't compatible with the built in one. I'd recommending putting the modems into bridge mode and let the router manage everything for better network stability. There is also an app for smart phones (I have it on my iPhone but I'm not sure about android). It's use as a option to manage the router. The apps capabilities are limited grants access to things like to check parental controls, network usage and wireless network name and password. I've had the router for about two months now and no issues so far. I know my review is a lot of techno-babel but I hope it helps some of you out there.. The fact the it's a Gigabit Router (wired connections can run up to 1000mbps compared to only 100mbps) was another reason why I purchased it. Some of my wired devices still run at 100mbps because there network ports only support up to that speed. Where my PlayStation 3 and home server have Gigabit cards. I also installed a separate gigabit network switch when I changed out the router. Between the more powerful router and switch my entire home network runs smoother and faster. I've done Netflix streaming on my Playstation 3, downloading large files on my server, live streaming a camera system and surf the web on several laptops at the same time with no slow down. So the router can manage network traffic really well but remember that internet connection speeds also factor into how much can be done internet wise. With my DSL I have a 6.5Mbps download speed and a .866Mbps upload. Not the fastest speeds but not too bad for DSL either IMO. The router comes with USB Ports. Either to hook up a USB printer to make it accessible on the network or to hook up an external hard drive to create a Network Storage Device. I really don't see the printer option being used as most printers today have wifi and wired network capabilities. I do have a external drive hooked up. So now it's pretty simple to share files between my PCs. I was using my home server for such but it's easier for any PC to see the network storage on the router while connected to my network and I now keep my more important files locked down on the server. When configured properly too the files can accessed from any internet connected PC (a login is used to protect the files when accessing them from an outside network). ... show more

  • Since this modem/router didn't work he provided me a Technicolor C200OT which worked great. He said he has seen other people try
This review is for the Netgear N600 model DGND3700v2 which was used with Las Vegas CenturyLink DSL 10GB, Aug 2014. It worked at 10GB however the N600 doesn't work on 15GB, 20GB, 25GB if centurylink is using two lines [two twisted pairs] in to the house for it - which my installer said they would always use. Since this modem/router didn't work he provided me a Technicolor C200OT which worked great. He said he has seen other people try to use several different modems and they only ones that work are this one (C2000T) and the Actiontec C1000A. He said this is same situation for anyone using their TV service (prism), which I don't have. Here's the longer review. When I first received the NetGear N600 it actually would have been fairly quick and easy to setup since the instructions made it clear to obtain and enter my DSL id and password in the setup. However I had a typo in the ID (which is the centurylink.net email address that century link gave me when I first setup their Actiontek 5001A modem/router when I first started the service) so I ended up calling Netgear tech support, which was just OK after waiting on hold 10-15 minutes. She was obviously not very knowledgeable and reading from a script or knowledgebase but I did learn a few things. They eventually told me the problem must be with CenturyLink. So I called them and while I was waiting on hold (another 10-15 minutes) I double-checked everything and spotted the typo in the ID. I corrected this and went back to all the default factory settings and it worked! The thing that was odd though is that when their setup wizard failed it kept taking the DSL ID and pwd out, as if it wasn't needed. I already read a couple posts that suggested they said "no" to that setting however I am certain that for my situation it was needed. I was happy for awhile because even though C/link is careful about giving me exactly the MB I signed up for (10MB at the time) I was getting better wireless reception from the Netgear, the far bedroom had a much better connection. However, later that day the C/link tech arrived to boost my service from 10MB to 25MB and that's when I found out that my new modem/router wouldn't work. I tried it anyway and he was right, it just wouldn't work. So unfortunately I'm going to have to return it. FYI, before I ordered it I did find and read the list of tested and approved third party routers that work with CenturyLink DSL (http://internethelp.centurylink.com/internethelp/modem-compatibility-table-ctl.html) however I also read several posts that said the NetGear N600 works anyway. So either the people that said that were only using 10MB (or less) service or they are better at this than me. I already spent enough time on this so I'm just going to keep the dang modem/router that c/link wants to lease or sell me. Guess they got me by the you know what...at least they have to support it... ... show more
