  • Review of the NETGEAR GS308 8-Port Gigabit Unmanaged Switch
Style: 8 Port
My expectations for the NETGEAR 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Unmanaged Switch (GS308) as a home network hub and workplace Ethernet splitter have been far surpassed. I tried a different product after using the prior switch from a different manufacturer for four years, which sadly failed after just two months. At that time, I discovered the NETGEAR GS308, and I couldn't be more pleased with my decision. First and foremost, this switch is incredibly reliable. I can state with confidence that after using it for a while, it has consistently and steadily handled my devices while maintaining a network connection. I had no trouble setting it up because of its plug-and-play functionality; I didn't have to deal with any difficult configurations or software installations. The GS308's quiet functioning is one of its most outstanding features. This switch doesn't make any noise at all, in contrast to some others that occasionally make annoying fan noises, which helps to maintain peace and quiet at my workspace. The switch's elegant, small shape also seamlessly integrates into my system without taking up extra room. I am confident that it will continue to operate dependably for many years to come because of its sturdy construction. The GS308 is a future-proof investment because it has the most recent upgrades as well. It has shown outstanding interoperability with contemporary devices and allows high-speed data transfers, making it the best choice for tasks requiring a lot of data. The value for money offered by the NETGEAR GS308 is simply exceptional. It is an affordable and useful option for both home and workplace use due to its fair price and great performance. The NETGEAR 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Unmanaged Switch (GS308) is wonderful, and I am very happy with it. It has exceeded my expectations by proving to be a dependable, effective, and silent network hub. Finding this model has been a game-changer after a negative experience with a previous brand. Anyone in need of a high-quality, trustworthy Ethernet switch should definitely choose the GS308. ... show more

  • Shaped to fit anywhere. Unobtrusive. Reliable. Strong steel instead of flimsy plastic.
Style: 8 Port
For an unmanaged ethernet switch, Netgear's steel-cased offerings are hard to beat or beat up. I've used them for a long time, back to the 10baseT days. They really don't look any different now than they did then. About the only external differences between this one and a 10baseT EN108 hub (not switch) are the color of the paint, the markings, and obsolete stuff deleted (AUI, 5baseT, uplink switch, extra LED per port). They are easily fastened to walls, fastened upside-down under counters, set on desks, and so on. They don't cost much either. So of course I bought this one when I needed to tie together some machinery with gigabit ethernet. ... show more

  • Exactly what we needed
Style: 8 Port
We have a mix of old and new equipment. Some has to now connect via Ethernet cables. A bit of a pain? Yes. But this unit made it easier, quicker and neat. Just unplugged the old one and added this and put all the cables in. Easy peasy and works flawlessly.

  • Does it’s job perfectly
Style: 8 Port
After installing a new router system, I needed more ports to handle a strong backhaul. The switch gives me a lot of flexibility. Easy install.

  • Does what you'd expect!
Style: 8 Port
In expanding some of the capabilities around my home office, I found that I was running out of places where I could actually connect wired devices. Since all my devices are gigabit rated, I decided this would be a good plug-and-go solution. I was right. It doesn't have any management capabilities or user interface: Just plug your devices in and go. If this sounds right for your use case, this is a good, affordable, durable option. ... show more

  • This works great as I expected.
Style: 8 Port
I had a 5 port FS105 model that after almost seven years decided to freeze every few weeks. Kind of a nuisance. But after almost seven years I can't complain. I wanted a few extra ports and I wanted Gb speed, too. So I bought this for the same price as I paid for the old 5 port 10/100 model. Crazy. The GS308 is unmanaged which is a "why would I need to managed switch/hub" question that I've yet to find an answer for. There are similar models that cost more, the GS108 for example. But other than the warranty and the extra lights on each port to tell you the connected device speed, I went cheap. I don't spend much time looking at the pretty lights blinking on my switches. Because I'd have to lay on the floor under my desk. :) i replaced both switches and several cables. I bought CAT 8 cables, overkill but "future proof!" so I'm good for a long long time. The LAN /is/ "snappier" with 10/100/1000 switches and CAT8 cables. In my experience, Netgear makes good stuff that lasts a long time. ... show more
